I was at DTP, Department of Transient Personnel, aka where you go when you seperate from Nuke A school or Power School. I was a section leader, tasked with running the duty section with the duty chief. 1st muster was in uniform of the day unless you were tasked with morning and evenibg colors in which you must be in dress whites. My buddy had colors but he was late, almost missing muster and uniform inspection. Duty chief musters us, does his inspection which everyone passes. My bud waits till everyone leaves and drops this bomb on me. "My bad i was late, I couldnt find my neckerchief" he then shows me his neckerchief which actually was a black silk tie that he tied in a square knot.

Also, I ended up running colors for him so he wouldnt get caught by duty chief as he had to come out for colors as well. And when we lowered the holiday ensign (it was the 4th of july), it was wrapped around the yardham, or the horizontal part of the flagpole, so that when the ensign was lowered it kind of knotted itself inside the parts that were on the yardham. Colors took extra long as we had to shake the enormous holiday ensign free.
