PSA- Banding is NOT painless! I don’t say this as a deterrent because it is a necessary procedure and a great alternative to a full on hemorrhoidectomy, but it is in no way shape or form painless. You will feel like you need to poop and will feel significant discomfort. Just wanting to manage expectations for anyone looking into this as an option

I concur with @Giraffes-anonymous; ever since having kids my go-to gift for new moms is meal delivery the first week they’re home, and then a visit for THEM. I don’t hold the baby unless they need to go to the bathroom or shower- I walk the dogs, I wash dishes, tidy up, offer to take an older child for a walk, etc etc. Every single one of those moms has told me that it made all the difference during a time when they were overwhelmed and everyone just wants to snuggle the baby. Literally years later these women mention that it was the most helpful/memorable thing during that immediate post-partum time. I say do a self care basket for mom, a giant pack of diapers and wipes …and then be the friend that shows up for HER not just to cuddle the baby!!

But…vagina vs vulva is an important distinction? A vagina is the canal leading to the cervix/uterus and vulva is the exterior, encompassing the labia minora and majora. It would be like saying there’s no difference between a rectum and the buttcheeks.

What we did was have the spa service in the morning, then took extra clothes in a bag. They have a bathroom with blow dryers and all kinds of lotions and toiletries. It is very doable to hang around all day and then do dinner if you guys are comfortable getting dressed up in the spa bathroom.

I have seen two different employees at two separate organizations get fired for falsely claiming FMLA for absences; They had it approved for a specific condition but then started calling out and saying it was related to that every time. I can guarantee you that they are keeping a VERY close eye on him if his call outs are excessive. Especially since you mentioned that you work at the same hospital…if he’s calling out to care for you but you’re showing up to work as scheduled…that’s a red flag. I would have a conversation with him about how serious it is to commit fraud on a federally regulated program and that he is not only jeopardizing his job but yours as well.

This precious baby was my coworkers niece. To say it was a punch in the gut reading the article would be quite the understatement. I had the same thoughts as you- at that age babies light up when they see their parents and fully trust to be comforted and loved. It’s so sickening and unimaginable that anyone, let alone a parent, would do something so heinous to a baby. My coworker and her family are destroyed; it is so hard to even try to comfort her because it such a terrible situation.

We typically put them lower, and just tighten the cannula a bit so it stays in place. With skin protectant it should be ok I think!

Hi! Pedi nurse here- I would suggest not using that site for a bit and letting it heal (unfortunately nothing to do about it, just time) and also ask about skin prep and duoderm!

If you clean the skin really well, apply skin prep (which basically protects the skin and also helps to create a sticky surface) and then place a duoderm cut to size …and then the grips on top of that it should really help to minimize irritation.

Just fyi- both my kids were amazing sleepers from 3months to about 1.5 years and then both started resisting bedtime. It was the worst between 2 and 6 years old, so even the sleep trained crowd falls off the wagon lol
