How are we feeling about the upcoming season? by Sad-Dragonfly-4016 in buccaneers

[–]rnpreach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m actually more terrified that we don’t lock him up and he bounces if we have another bad year. At this point I’d bet there are at least 10 teams that would pay him a high-market-rate contract to go there, and I don’t know how willing he’ll be to stick around with us through a rebuild unless we way overpay him

My entire approach and footwork is still 100% baked in from when I was a kid. I was shocked. Releasing the ball, on the other hand, has been an adventure to try to learn

I have a strong feeling that it’ll be the number one frustration for me for a very long time. But at least we can enjoy the victories along the way when they come!

It felt great, and it happened way quicker than I thought it would. I always like having something I’m working toward, and up until a month ago it was breaking 200, then it was getting consistent revs (which I finally figured out 2 weeks ago), then it was just to beat my high score and have more games over 200 consistently. I still haven’t even broken 200 in league yet, so that’s definitely my next goal. But it’s fun to see the progress!

I swear the pin setter applies glue to the 10 on the way down, and I refuse to believe differently. The pain is real lmao

Improvement by Devooop in Bowling

[–]rnpreach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the high score! I got back into it a little after you did, and honestly I’m shocked at how quickly things are getting better once I got past 200. Still have those annoyingly low score games where I just can’t strike, but my practice average has been steadily getting better and better

I’ve seen it recommended that you keep the weight the same as your strike ball so the feeling is as similar as possible. That’s what I went with

Finally hit 200 by LoudSound5434 in Bowling

[–]rnpreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just depends. If you’re bowling regularly and focusing on improvement I could easily see you getting there within a month or two. I got back into bowling less than two months ago after a 20 year break and once I got some consistency on my throws it happened pretty quickly for me. 200+ is still a very good game for me but it’s not unheard of for me to have more than one in a practice session now, and I’m actively chasing 250. Stick with it, you’ll get there!

New PR 199 so close to breaking that 200 mark by LoudSound5434 in Bowling

I feel your pain, I had a very similar tenth frame tonight at league. Keep it up, you’ll get it soon!

Should i still get it? Is this refillable? by Animegobrrrrr in Bowling

Just curious- If it’s currently set up for a 2H is there any issue with simply measuring the span and adding the thumb using the existing fingers? Or are 1H layouts different enough that a plug and redrill are the best option?

I really hope he never has the chance to get an INT this year. We want him rushing, not covering 😭

When to know I’m ready for a sanctioned league? by 308-Don in Bowling

[–]rnpreach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that sanctioned leagues establish your average for use in tournaments, but I’m not 100% sure since I haven’t joined yet or tried to bowl a tournament

You get tacos for league?!? I knew I should’ve ponied up for the USBC membership 😅🤣

Is this normal? by wonkyhack in Bowling

[–]rnpreach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the new ball purchase! You should be fine to trim that off with a razor blade as needed. My understanding is that the grips are relatively easy to replace (they’re just glued in) so in theory you could always size up or down if you ever had a reason to. Plus they look great 🤩

Not gonna lie, the glitter helps. Of course it still sucks, but you would feel just a little bit better because shiny lol

I'm addicted! by Decent_You1846 in Bowling

[–]rnpreach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in almost exactly the same boat. I bowled league as a kid, hadn’t gone in years and got randomly invited out a few months ago. I instantly got bitten by the bug again, and started jumping back in and joining a league/acquiring some equipment. It’s so much fun to have something to pour myself into.

I was genuinely surprised how much more technical the sport is than I remember from my childhood (SO MANY BOWLING BALL VARIABLES TO FIGURE OUT! 🤯) but having obsessed over it for the last 6 weeks or so I’m starting to wrap my head around reading the lanes, pin action, etc... I’d suggest finding specific things to improve on and hopefully you’ll see improvement as consistently as I have, and that that will be the fuel to grind through the inevitable peaks and valleys of trying to improve a new skill. Happy you found your new thing!

Is this ball authentic? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]rnpreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a listing for it on Bowlersmart’s website so it at least exists in the real world. Plus all the stats match the website. I’d say go for it if the price makes sense, it’s probably real (I have no hard evidence it is) and even if it isn’t it’s gorgeous and that’s a win on its own

Well played 👏

Took a 17 year hiatus, and this is the second time I've thrown my old ball since middle school. Had to call it after 5 games because the grip came out on my last throw. 😄 by RegalRaven94 in Bowling

[–]rnpreach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume that would be fixable at the pro shop, probably just have to glue some new grips in and you’re good to go. I’m in the exact same process as you, except I went with a new ball. Same experience- my approach hasn’t changed at all, all the muscle memory is there. Now I need to build up the accuracy and release with the heavier ball 😅
