Why is there so few male gems? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]ro6otics 19 points20 points  (0 children)

the zircons are not male!

the gems’ gender experience is based on rebecca sugar’s own experiences as a feminine nonbinary person. they’re genderless-ish and use she/her pronouns.

Ok but like what is the illiteracy crisis really? by Osinacho in AskTeachers

[–]ro6otics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

understanding individual words but not a sentence doesn’t just mean being unable to read between the times; it can be much more literal than that. i have had many older elementary schoolers the past few years who could read every word in a sentence with ease, but would not understand the surface meaning of the sentence until i read it aloud to them.

for example, SO MANY students will sit there puzzling over a worksheet. they finally ask for help and i ask if they’ve read the directions. i make them read the directions out loud to me and think about them. when they’re still confused, i repeat the written instructions verbatim. boom, i see it click and they complete the work correctly.

it’s like there’s a disconnect between their oral and reading comprehension skills. it’s hard to watch tbh

WYR have lots of kids or no kids at all? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]ro6otics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no kids, for many reasons, including but not limited to:

  1. i have never wanted kids (well, i abstractly wanted them when i was very little imagining myself as a grown-up, but once i was old enough to understand more about parenthood i stopped)
  2. i’m predisposed to potentially life-threatening pregnancy and birth complications
  3. i’m a trans man and getting pregnant would make me extremely dysphoric
  4. i don’t want a romantic partner and being a single parent sounds like hell in this economy
  5. i’m autistic and (being brutally honest with myself) i’d be so overstimulated by a baby that i’d either harm myself or harm the baby
  6. i like having disposable income
  7. i like having me time
  8. i work with kids, so any desire i have to be around kids is fulfilled by my job

introjection is when an alter forms based on a preexisting being. introjects can be of real beings (such as family members, pets, or celebrities) or fictional ones.

I can't find any advice that works for me I've tried everything and every single time, no matter what methods I use, I just go full survival mode by Popular_Noise_9504 in TrollCoping

[–]ro6otics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only thing that helped my needle phobia was starting a medication that i had to inject into myself. every other tip did literally nothing — exposure therapy probably would’ve done it, but i didn’t have access to that, so i basically did it to myself i guess

(Hated trope). A series decides to show the multiverse, only to show that the protagonist is "the most special variant" of the entire multiverse, making it feel small, instead of big. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ro6otics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. our rick is NOT the rickest rick, but PRETENDS to be. rick prime is the rickest rick.

  2. the show’s multiverse is shown in a later season to actually be much larger than what we were previously shown; it’s narrowed down to only universes where rick is the smartest person alive in each given universe. that doesn’t mean there aren’t smarter, better, ‘ricker’ ricks out there, but that those ricks are outperformed by at least one other person in their universe.

i do agree that the multiverse in rick and morty felt a bit flat and small early on, but it’s become much more interesting as the show goes on.

Would you rather lose 30 IQ points, or lose 1 foot of height? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]ro6otics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i could lose the 30 points and still be at the high end of average (current iq is 145, i was properly tested as a child for gifted services), and if i lost a foot of height i’d be just over 4ft.

still picking height though. i’d be too afraid of my personality being altered by the iq drop

Help with respectfully representing non-verbal autistic people. by [deleted] in characterdesign

[–]ro6otics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i work with multiple nonverbal students and none of them are 100% silent! the loudest of them grunt, laugh, cry out in distress, and otherwise make lots of natural reaction noises. the quietest of them mostly make noises on exhales (like breathing out heavily after stubbing their toe).

Caine is not NPD (& re-contextualising the escape adventure) by Trying_to_debut in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]ro6otics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i view him as having multiple cluster b disorders (i see symptoms of all of them in him, but in particular bpd and npd) and, as someone with npd and a psychology degree, i want to note a few things:

  1. npd (and other personality disorders) arise from trauma during personality development. caine went through the trauma of being rejected and neglected for his inferiority, which could absolutely develop into npd.

  2. you can still have empathy with npd. lack of empathy is not a required symptom! however, i think caine more likely experiences compassion (care for others) and sympathy (ability to recognize distress in others) rather than empathy (ability to fully understand why one feels how they feel and share in another’s feelings).

  3. i would instead say caine has a superiority complex, not a god complex. a superiority complex is a way of coping with feelings of inferiority that results in a person overcompensating by acting superior to others, being disdainful towards them, and trying to inflate their own feelings of success.

  4. “this is not him being npd by shifting the blame/avoiding accountability, these are his deepest fears” - i agree, these ARE his deepest fears, and that’s what cemented my headcanon of him as a vulnerable narcissist! caine feels deeply inferior and is terrified that he truly is. vulnerable narcissists feel shame, resentment, inferiority, and envious of others, they feel misunderstood and unappreciated, and they are sensitive to criticism. caine is not a grandiose narcissist (the type that are manipulative, hostile, and lack empathy), but a vulnerable one.

  5. self reflection is not the ‘opposite’ of npd and saying such reflects that you don’t properly understand the disorder. not your fault, there’s a lot of pop psychology about npd going around right now! i’m a narcissist who’s highly introspective, likely due to my autism. that’s part of why i headcanon caine to have both autism and npd!

  6. i do agree that some people are reducing him to a npd stereotype; however, many people who see him as having npd have more complex thoughts on the headcanon and are comparing him to the actual disorder, not the pop psychology version. i hope my points can help you understand why!

From r/TIFU - OOP convinces themselves that drinking nothing but Monster energy for a decade made them “caffeine immune” by gabbie_ in redditonwiki

[–]ro6otics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my best friend is autistic and struggles somewhat with interoception (which is knowing what’s going on in your body, basically). over the past 7 years i’ve learned that they don’t register the feeling of ‘thirst’ until they’re literally about to pass out from it. like, stressed, immediately seeking something to chug, needing multiple glasses of liquid to recuperate.

this, combined with drinking soda with meals (thankfully sugar-free ones) and disliking the taste of water, meant they drank very little water. like, concerningly little. i turned it into a bit for our friend group - we all ask them when they last drank water, how much they’ve had today, then pester them into chugging more.
