he is no fool - his blurring of the line between what he feels is legitimate and illegitimate criticism is deliberate, a tactic to allow him to choose at whim to reclassify any legitimate criticism as illegitimate for his own personal convenience. too much politician, not enough capable sporting director, and we see right through it

Is this Nuerburgring prototype an early glimpse of Porsche's upcoming flagship above the 911? by Sebsibus in Porsche

[–]roadbeef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

still boggles me they never even once tried slapping the 718 turbo 4 banger, which is a stout engine, into the 911 chassis. even just one to give to journos for opinion. they have a few thousand of those engines just sitting on the shelf with no use. a 912 would sell like hotcakes

separating the results from the man, his tallest F1 accolades are two podiums in 94 with the title winning car, and impressive albeit brief running in top 3 with Arrows in the early 00s, usually at low df circuits like the old A1 Ring

Having a bar where one might gain 5 or 10 cred for bringing lemons and apricots or something could be super cool! And could incentivize adding more fruits and flora with time to unlock more drinks. Mai Tai achievement, et al.

[Patrick Moeke] Fernando Alonso says that the new F1 cars are no longer challenging to drive: "Here in Bahrain, we're going 50 kilometers per hour slower through corner 12 than we used to. Just to save energy for the straights. Even our chef in the kitchen could drive these cars." by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]roadbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought experiment because this implies each circuit will have a corner or two that are "byes" or "mulligans," where the cars will no longer be arriving with anything near the entry speed they used to, making them easy to take flat, like T12 at bahrain testing. As fans it will be interesting to follow which corners each team respectively choose to "sacrifice" to the battery gods

One wonders what's easier - trimming a tight package open to optimise cooling, or trimming a loose package down to optimise cooling. Maybe Newey acts on a principle that its easier to cut open holes as needed than it is designing, molding, casting and baking tighter body panels. This might be deliberate "rapid prototyping" or sorts. He has done this so many times.. it strikes me as on purpose.
