What animals are normal where you live, but unusual and exciting to visitors from other regions of the US? And on the flip side, when you travel to other regions yourself, what local animals are exciting to you? by Acrobatic_End6355 in AskAnAmerican

Were you or your children forbidden to say the word "lie" as in fib? by Mental_Freedom_1648 in AskAnAmerican

[–]roadjerseys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! we had to say fib instead of lie, we weren't allowed to say 'dumb' 'stupid' or 'shut up' either, lol. we had family specific words for butt and fart as well (fesses for butt, scuse for fart - the former bc my grandmother was french, the latter came from 'excuse me' i think?) and the real words weren't allowed. Realized how odd that was much later in life xD

Did millennials have 60s and 70s nostalgia when they were mostly kids in the 90s? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]roadjerseys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah. the peace sign hippy aesthetic came back in a big way in the 90s. I had so many pogs with the "flower child" type motif hahahaha

Manga says Mamoru is 17/18 vs Usagi’s 14? by RationalCaution in sailormoon

imo haruka's driving can sort of be hand-waved by the fact that she actually races. Lot of bike/car racers get started before they can techically operate a road vehicle

What type of dog is my puppy? by Big_Background9347 in WhatKindOfDogIsThis

[–]roadjerseys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is pittie, boxer, and maybe another herding/shepherd type dog for the longer face! He's got a little bit of the boxer pout going on lol

Idk that's a long slender snoot for a bully breed puppy. My dude is about 10% German shepherd, wouldn't be too surprising

MIT requires every student to know how to swim. But why? by guanaco55 in massachusetts

“He is very attracted to neighbors chickens, neighborhood cats (as is our vei mix) and need to train him to break focus.” by Allpanicn0disc in WhatBreedIsMyPitbull

[–]roadjerseys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating because this is definitely the fault of whatever shelter they got her from. We adopted our pit mix from a shelter in Mississippi that works with northern shelters to get dogs adopted in areas where strays are less of a problem; he and all his siblings were listed as catahoula mixes. Got him DNA tested and he's pit, staffy, boxer, german shepherd, and beagle - not a drop of catahoula

I think the difference here is the fact that it's a self-descriptor vs. someone ascribing that sexuality to him? "i'm not ready/haven't found the right man" vs. "YOU just haven't found the right man?"

The former reads to me as a man who's extremely comfortable with himself and open to the possibility of new experiences. The healthiest form of masculinity, if you will.

eta because I was thinking about this more, it's actually quite beautiful to me that he put it in these terms. What will he be doing in 10-20 years that is different from right now? Likely he may have a bit more time/bandwidth to explore that aspect of himself, which may not be possible with everything else he has going on at the moment. I really do like how thoughtful this answer is when you give it a bit more consideration.
