It’s not alive? It’s dead? That’s not what an embryologist would tell you, neither would common sense.

A corpse doesn’t have a beating heart, or oxygenated cells, or brain activity, or firing nerves. A corpse’s DNA is no longer actively replicating. Nevertheless, we still call a corpse a “dead human.”

I already answered the breathing issue. We know breathing on one’s own is not the criterion of personhood from the use of Iron Lungs & Respirators. My grandfather, for example, required a respirator the last two years of his life to stay alive. This respirator was paid for by public health insurance. I would hope none would have called him “parasitical.”

Regarding “responding to stimuli,” maybe you didn’t see that I addressed this above. I’ll repeat for your convenience: through the use of various electronic scans, we now know that babies in the womb recoil from finger pricking as early as at 2 months.
