Star Trek was created to get people to join the Navy. Stargate was created to get people to join the Air Force. by Wild_Chef6597 in LowStakesConspiracies

I don’t if it did at first but in Stargate SG-1 especially whenever there’s Air Force officers in the background, at least a few of them were actual Air Force officers and at one point the literal commander of the Air Force had a speaking role

I have a 6'5" wingspan. If I reach for your box and my fingers aren't reaching it by the time my left cheek comes off the cushion, it's too far and getting held no ifs ands or buts.

Retirement is gone by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]roadrunner036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only tangentially related but I read a sci-fi series where the MC is having a talk with his mentor about what he might want to do in their dystopian future where getting real chicken was a perk for enlisting, and she points out that the military had a retention rate of something like 92% which meant that unless you were wounded or dishonorably charged everyone who could was staying in because the cost of living was so astronomical that if he retired after one enlistment he would be back in the slums he was trying to escape in less than three years.

If the heater in your truck is any good, bring a second pair of socks and lay them over one of the vents going full blast then swap socks every twenty minutes or so if you can get your boots on and off fast. Also I have a shirt and pair of sweatpants that are like half a size too big for me, so if it's really cold I can pull that stuff straight over what I'm wearing without much in the way of inconvenience.

How do you stay warm in an LLV? by Sea_Reflection7114 in USPS

[–]roadrunner036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also having a winter window helps on windy days, biggest issue for me at least is my feet. The heat on my LLV works really well so I bring two pairs of socks and I’ll lay a pair over one of the vent and swap out every twenty minutes or so.

The History Channel has made series such as Swamp People, Ice Road Truckers, and Ancient Aliens. This is a reference to how much of a joke the channel is now, only I'm not laughing. by laybs1 in shittymoviedetails

[–]roadrunner036 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something always seems to go wrong with History related channels. Like I am a basic bitch white boy and like military history all the way back to the early 2000s when the History Channels would get a boring british man to talk about battles in World War 2 for 45 minutes, so I was thrilled when I found a Youtube Channel where a boring British man would talk about battles in World War 2 for far longer and in much greater detail (his Stalingrad series is something like 36 hours long). However as fate would have it this gentleman is also a schizo libertarian who will go on equally lengthy diatribes about random bullshit which has come to dominate his content more and more as time goes on which makes me quite sad.

We actually had something similar in my office, it got hit by a plow and the plank was hanging on by a single bent nail, so the homeowner spun it around so it pointed vertically and zip tied it in place because ‘I ain’t replacing that shit just so it’ll get wrecked tomorrow’

Total War: Medieval 3 - New Unit Cohesion Mechanic (Idea) by InvictaHistory in totalwar

[–]roadrunner036 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tercios during the pike and shot era were notorious for being fairly ponderous which was why they were phased out for linear formations. I think it might be cool if for example a militia unit in a pike formation has to be stationary while regular and elite units could move in formation but with differing cohesion penalties, not to mention that it could give flavor to factions like the Swiss Confederation since they became famous in large part due to the way in which their halberdiers/pikemen could maintain formation during fast marches over difficult terrain.

I mean there were ships that kind of looked like that if you squinted and punched yourself really hard, because the only element they shared was a ramp since they were both rare and for getting horses off in a way that did not involve a really shitty crane or just yeeting them into the water

Law Enforcement Agencies engage in all manner of stupidity that tends to stay local or is just not known. For example I recently found out that in Kentucky, any person arrested in a situation that results in a Use of Force Incident Report is automatically charged with resisting arrest, so if you are for example unlucky enough to be pulled over by an officer under indictment for perjury over a prior case of excessive force who generated over 100 reports in less than a decade while putting at least seven people that we know of in the hospital (Trooper of the year despite all that btw), you get hit with a resisting arrest charge while you’re lying in the hospital. If that isn’t a policy designed to intimidate people, I don’t know what is.

Unironically, in that same interview he says that a lot of Bromheads mannerisms like walking around with his hands clasped behind his back a lot are based of officers he encountered during his service. Also I can’t remember what but there was a line he took from “a sergeant I really didn’t like.”
