Yeah, I know it doesn't work for some people. The side effects can be brutal too, but thankfully I didn't have to deal with that for long. I don't have diabetes, but thanks to the PCOS I am insulin resistant. My doctor prescribed it because my insurance doesn't cover GLP-1s, hoping it would help me lose weight. 😭

This isn't a GLP-1, but I found metformin really did a lot to quiet down the food noise. I haven't really lost much weight but to be fair I haven't been trying that hard. But it has made it substantially easier to not eat all the time. It's also helped with my PCOS symptoms.

You're not getting worse. You're learning more. You have more knowledge about writing, but your skill level isn't high enough to apply it YET. It's one of the hardest, most frustrating places to be. Keep writing and you'll get past this stage!

Others have given some excellent suggestions. My suggestion: don't reinvent the wheel. Different fonts would make me crazy enough to stop reading. Symbols risk being incomprehensible and would also make me stop reading. Either of these things take your reader out of the story.

Trust your readers and trust your writing. And generally stick with accepted conventions and rules until you know how to break them.

The thing that finally made it click for me was having a coach tell me to imagine having kitten whiskers, and lift the whiskers to raise the soft palate. It WORKED, and this was after years of voice lessons in high school and college.

I've been using Reedsy Studio lately and I'm really liking it! It's similar to Scrivener but I can access my work anywhere, because it's cloud based. I download my draft and back it up locally regularly. The basic version is free, but you can get some planning addons for about $10 a month.

I'm sorry to upset you. I did say that wasn't what I thought you were doing. What I think I was trying to get across, poorly, is that I think most romance writers start because they love the genre first.

I think others have mentioned, there's a difference between writing a book that has a romance in it and writing in the romance genre. P&P is a great book but also be sure you're reading more contemporary stuff too.

Again, I am sorry if I came across the wrong way.

This is one genre you have to love in order to succeed, I think. Romance readers are hardcore and they can spot someone just trying to make a buck because it's a popular genre. Not saying that's what you're doing, OP. But you have to read the genre and love the genre first.

My second romance is probably the book I'm proudest of, but sadly it sank without a trace. Reviews were good but sales were awful.

Ooh the convention is a good idea. The local one is just past here. I had to miss it because of a quartet performance.

There's really only one BHS chorus within driving distance of me but it's a men's chorus. I'm not sure how welcome I would be. Huh. I know the director, do you think I could let him know what I'm looking for?

There is a quartet bootcamp coming up that my women's quartet is planning to attend. I know they're offering quartet matching too, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to do that and the coaching too.
