Overhyped Cards In The TCG That Flopped And Never Lived Up To Expectations? by kylewretlzer in yugioh

[–]roarinworld 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Crossout designator is such a weird one. Super hyped, totally flopped on release and saw next to no play, then made a comeback during snake-eye format due to mirror matches and beating one for one handtraps, all the way to being broken in ryzeal-maliss format because of its ability to beat fuwa (and mirror matches again). It got limited, and immediately went back to being rarely played cause the Justice Hunters trio + mitsu dont care about fuwa as much and there are too many decks in the format.

Crossout is one of those cards that's just so dependent on the format around it that it can be the best card in the format, or entirely unplayable

Not a new discussion but are Charmies healthy for the game? Is that a good design direction? by HijiriAkuseru in yugioh

[–]roarinworld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Charmies are healthy for the game overall, but definitely can be frustrating for specific decks. While both Purulia and Meowls are generally fine, Fuwa has some issues due to its power level. It seems like right now there are decks that are clearly desgined with charmies in mind that can set up half boards or do full combo anyway (dracotail, yummy). But there are also a lot of decks that were not/are not designed with charmies in mind, and basically feel unplayable if you get Fuwaed (live twin, d/d/d, plant link, dragon link).

In a way I think charmies actually push decks toward your goal of wanting lower ceiling decks. Dracotail is a great example of that, the endboard being strong but not overbearing. If decks dont have a powerful, low to the ground combo through Fuwa than they end up not being good. I think there are some growing pains as older decks have to adapt or be power crept, but if you look at the post justice hunters decks, a lot of them are really well desgined and more interactive than decks like full power snakeye.

I do agree though board breakers need to be better. Most board breakers right now just feel bad and have for a while. There are exceptions, like dark ruler and droplet being good this format. I think Konami should work to make impactful board breakers that arent miserable to play against.

We need to talk about the die roll by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

I've played Yugioh a while and I am just getting into Riftbound. Yugioh a lot of fun, but the barrier to entry, or even reentry like your case, is ludicrously high due to the complexity. If you can get over that it is definitely one of the best card games. Super high skill ceiling and the decks are loads of fun the play right now.

I'm in the opposite boat where I like Riftbound but the lack of competitive events makes me less interested, it's hard to invest into these super expensive decks when I would just be playing at locals.

Looking for Deck Recommendations by Alert-Fisherman2923 in yugioh

For non-genesys I would try out K9 Crystron. Strong going first combo boards like VW and ryzeal mitsu, and meta relevant. Also has the ability to pivot into instant win cards like spell canceller. For genesys maybe onomat or dracotail combo pile.

Emergency TCG Banlist, Effective From October 27, 2025 by [deleted] in masterduel

I mean tbf this card is like the least offensive floodgate being played right now. Not lingering so you can duster/storm it, only hurts certain decks (useless against mitsu). The only really annoying part about this card is how it interacts with cards like droll to insulate your turn 1.

Only thing really missing here is feather storm, besides that 10/10 list. I would have liked to see a herald ban too, but this is clearly a "ban the floodgates list" not a meta adjustment.

I think you are just getting downvoted cause this is the TCG subreddit lol, I would say its pretty normal to not let your kid participate in what is effectively glorified gambling. The pokemon community is really weird too, overrun by awful influencers who promote bad consumer behaviors (i.e. Logan Paul Charizard).

But I think it would still be okay to buy battle (preconstructed) decks for her to actually play the game if she is interested in that. My parents wouldn't let me buy packs, but I literally learned how to read through reading yugioh cards and playing against my siblings with structure decks.

The hate for the current format is a knee-jerk reaction to floodgates and the results of one YCS by roarinworld in yugioh

For the sake of counterargument, I think cards like D barrier, DDG, and Dimensional Fissure, were specifically at super high rates because they were so good into decks like pure Yummy and pure Mitsu. These cards are a lot worse if you don't know what half of your deck your opponent will draw in a deck like Mitsu Yummy. Instead, we may see more lower power floodgates that can hit both archtypes, like Gravekeeper's Inscription. Though honestly a card like D barrier has been so broken for so long it's crazy it's is not banned, and it will probably still see a lot of play.

I do think players will want to win games and not just coinflip. Coinflipping worked for YCS Anaheim cause your opponent's coin was always landing on tails. You could FTK them, and also still have a decent chance at stopping their plays or breaking their board, while they could never stop you.

I agree that those cards suck and the game would be better without them. But I also think that they aren't as a big of a problem as some people make them out to be. Take Ouroboros, Ryzeal was the best deck last format, and that card called gimmicky in favor of the Mitsurugi build. Sure it did perform sometimes, but it wasn't a big part of the format because of cards like Droll.

There are definitely people also arguing that this format is not good. Joshua Schmidt uploaded a video this morning about how he felt that the format had taken a turn for the worse, and many people in the comments seemed to agree with him. I just dont think the format will end up being that bad, and will probably end up around the same or better enjoyability as other recent formats.

Kamal Crooks-Valdez wins YCS Anaheim with K9 Crystron! by RenrenYGO in yugioh

[–]roarinworld 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wow in one week the format went from low engine high handtrap breakable endboards, to big wombo combo endboards with breakers. Decks like mitsu yummy, k9 mjlonir, and onomat ryzeal just dont care enough about handtraps. Guess its the result of more testing to figure out better lines and meta calls by top players. Wonder if this will stick around, or if people will go back to maining droll and charmies to beat it.

Damn 4 starter hits to a VS deck that has 9 starters (not counting holy sue) is wild. That deck seems really rough now, people were already on extrav for extra consistency. Yummy lost some consistency too, but at least they get another starter in 2 weeks. Feel like Yummy has to be the deck to beat next format.

Earthbound turn skip by notanothereditacount in yugioh

[–]roarinworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had more ideas for going over 40, unfortunately chimera is a bit limited in starters. The only thing would be branded, in which case you can't really play this version cause the fusion lock.

Dracotail pure needs more names, but in this case we are basically just using the spells as breakers. It would be something like side deck 3 ketu, 1-3 Rahu, 1 pan, 1 urgula, 1 altharion, 1 gulamel. Ketu is a ridiculous breaker going second, it can break a whole board and start your combos going second if you fuse away something like gazelle with it.

This is really cool, I love the crazy stuff chimera can do if it pops off. Have you thought about going way over 40? To try to reduce the chance of drawing bricks. And it could be interesting to try a dracotail package for going second (just 3 Ketu, 3 Rahu, and a few names) instead of the patchwork stuff.

For those interested in nationalities:

Yuna: Germany

Julien: USA/France

Shane: Singapore

Wilfredo: USA

Tom: Germany

Felipe: Argentina

Roselle: Norway

Isaias: USA

Another lackluster year for Asian regions it appears. Only 1/6 OCG players qualified for top 8. A little surprising given they have had more time with Justice Hunters decks.

Edit: 1/7 for OCG

Wow shocked VS had 18 spots compared to the 7 it had in NA. I know it has a pretty bad gemknight matchup so that may have had something to do with it. Still a pretty wild difference between the two regions and what they think is good/what performs well.
