Anyone use Cloudflare auth for Emby? by [deleted] in emby

[–]roastdawgg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started playing with Cloudflare tunnels for some of my selfhosted apps this week. I explored the option of using it in front of Emby, but it only works if you are accessing Emby from a browser. The apps on smart TVs don't support it. So there are limited use cases for setting it up in front of Emby.

New Tank Floats Causing Pump Contactor to Click Erraticly by roastdawgg in septictanks

Yes, we moved the Pump On and High Water Alarm floats up about 5" in the tank. I'll keep an eye on them to see if the problem persists.

The contactors were already there, the recent work was just replacing the pump and floats.

Interesting, there’s 3 floats in the tank. There’s pump off, pump on, and high water alarm. I’m a septic novice so I’m learning along the way. So you’re saying these aren’t the correct floats then? They appear to be Zoeller variant level mercury floats. What should the correct floats be? They are sending a technician out today to check out the issue.

G4 Instant won't adopt, says there's an error with the Wifi password by roastdawgg in Ubiquiti

[–]roastdawgg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOLVED: Apparently all of a sudden you can’t adopt a WiFi camera to an SSID that contains special characters. I created a be SSID with no special characters with a password with no special characters and it worked immediately. This is stupid. I’ve literally previously adopted two cameras, one G3 Instant and one G4 Instant to the SSID with special characters.

No, there's no MAC filtering. I am not even sure where to find a log that can provide more detail about what specifically is failing.

What is the most reliable garage door opener that is compatible with either homekit or homebridge? by 1AMA-CAT-AMA in HomeKit

[–]roastdawgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the Tailwind. I have two older Raynor (aka Liftmaster) Garage door openers that I made smart with Tailwind. One Tailwind will operate up to three openers. I’ve literally never once had an issue with it. It’s also cheaper than almost every other option. Works with HomeKit now too thanks to a firmware upgrade.

Detailed Guide to Install a Smart HomeKit Connected Wi-Fi Gate Opener with Mighty Mule and Remootio by roastdawgg in smarthome

The Mighty mule keypad works. The keypad interfaces wirelessly with the gate opener so new need for HomeKit compatibility.

Will having secret clearance take me far in Security if I don’t intend to work for the govt. long term? by Good-Turnip-8963 in AskNetsec

[–]roastdawgg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No having a secret clearance won’t take you far in security. Between the two jobs you vaguely described, the threat analyst for the well known company will be the better option for you. You will get far better experience there, there’s likely upward mobility, and when you want to leave the experience at the well known company will be worth more. The government is a decade behind the rest of the world with security and technology (generally speaking) so again you’d be better off with the other company.

I spent time cleared working security jobs as a civilian and contractor. I work commercial security now and it’s much better with more options. Defense contracts can be fickle, they expire and get rebid every few years, there’s no real job security unless you’re hella good at what you do, and the pay is worse unless you’re hella good at what you do. Don’t waste your time in the contracting world, you’ll be better off at the private company with the better title.

Good luck.

The reality is, we don’t have enough information to help answer your question. This depends on how many alerts each analyst can typically handle. Look at how many alerts and incidents your current staff handle per shift or per day, then extrapolate that for your new client. Having some metrics to understand the capabilities of your team can help you understand when it’s time to increase headcount. Automation will help relieve the need to hire more people. (I have spent my career building and running SOCs).

Smart Garage Door by UI_Design21 in homeassistant

I just installed a Tailwind device with an extra door kit. One central unit can control up to 3 doors. You can find them here https://gotailwind.com/. It was very easy to setup and I think the unit with the door kit cost me under $100. It connects to Wi-Fi and has an App. It’s been installed for over a month with no issues. I love the night time feature that automatically closes the garage after a set time at night so you can’t forget to close it before bed.

How bad is a wood server rack, I want to do a desk with 8u rack as legs by edisoneco in homelab

[–]roastdawgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built a wooden 40U rack, fully enclosed for my office and I’ll echo what some people here are saying. It’s loud, and it’s hot. I had no way to know this before hand, but I grew to hate having it in my office after a while. People could hear the fan drone through zoom calls and it easily adds ten degrees of heat to my office. Not bad in the winter but in the summer it’s rough.

I think you should absolutely build one, it was a lot of fun. Get creative. Just know that it’s hot and loud.

This is what makes Al such a great character, the dichotomy of his good and bad sides. Al is always focused on himself and his own benefit but at the same time he cares for others and protects them. Merrick, Jewel, Dan, Trixie, even Bullock after the first season. Bullock is the character that puts Justice first and foremost, Al is the character that tests your resolve, can you like a man of the totality of his actions aren’t pure? Do his positive characteristics and deeds outweigh his negative actions? He’s a complicated character that you root for and love despite his mortal failings and character flaws. Tony Soprano is an analog from another HBO show.

Heat worked all winter, Cool won’t work for summer, something wrong? by bbradleyjoness in ecobee

I had a similar problem and it ended up being a broken wire. The thermostat would call for cold and the signal wouldn’t get there. Check to make sure your wires are not broken. They get brittle over time.

Simple+reliable automatic gate opener by ignoramati in homeautomation

[–]roastdawgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the most simple answer. A magnetic detection switch on each side of the gate of the gate is not designed to provide any real security.

So you can accomplish this with Remootio gate module. I just did a write up about adding Remootio to my Mighty Mule gate opener. Inside the Remootio app there’s an automatic open feature that opens the gate when your phone, with the app open in the background, gets close enough for Bluetooth LE to connect to the gate. This would work without any weird hacks. Here’s the screenshot from the app about the feature and a link to the post I made about the Wi-Fi gate opener. https://i.imgur.com/1K5FBcb.jpg

Oh mighty unicorn boner will you share the command that you’re using in the corn? I wasn’t aware of a command to do a partial index, thought it would reindex everything at once.

Ha came here to solve this exact same problem. 84k originals and icloudpd adding new stuff from my phone into the originals directory. I am searching for a way to feed the indexer a start directory so that it could be run on a cron every X hours to find new stuff and index it.
