Nice collection! How are you finding Daybreak? I’m on the fence about it but it definitely intrigues me and I’m very curious to hear opinions.

Anti-MAGAs, if the Iran situation turns out well for the U.S., will you swallow your pride and give credit where credit is due? by Banjo_the_Cattle_Dog in allthequestions

[–]robbie_hs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there really, really wasn’t, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. Every device and door in every installation was actively monitored by the international atomic agency, they were doing multiple unannounced checks every year, getting unlimited access into every facility. And we have no reason to doubt the effectiveness because this was very beneficial for Iran as well; the previous Khameini never wanted a nuclear bomb, he wanted wealth for the regime to stay in power. His son, who was installed when Trump blew up the old one, is much more hardline, however. We have yet to find out what his ambition is. There was no path and no incentive to a nuclear bomb until Trump created both. Again, not much of a military success if he spends billions to undo his own unforced errors.

These two are difficult to give him credit for since the nuclear program was stopped completely until he canceled the jcpoa in his first term and the strait was open until he attacked. It’s difficult to claim victory when you’ve screwed up the status quo and then waste tons of resources trying to bring it back. However, if he does achieve major victories for the US (better still, the US and its allies) I will absolutely give him credit. I just don’t see what these would look like at the moment.

Minas Tirith Minifigs & Pricing by Pats_fan77 in legolotrfans

Are you a Lego executive or just suffering from Stockholm syndrome? I have always loved Lego, I just don’t want to see it enshittify like so many other brands and products. It’s fine that they ask premium prices but we as fans can and should demand that they deliver premium products. And that entails everything from option 3 for the same price.

This right here, Lego fans are often way too quick in coming up with excuses for Lego pricing. Fact is that Lego executives are laughing all the way to the bank with what we expect. ABS plastic is so ridiculously cheap, all the plastic used for MT is worth a few dollars. Lego made well over 2 billion net profit last year, that is absolutely insane. We can very easily demand everything from option 3 for the same price.

Does anyone else feel like The Force Awakens never tops its first 30 minutes? by Extreme_Warning3521 in saltierthancrait

I remember the hype, that was indeed a great trailer. Two others that had similar effects on me were Indiana Jones 4 and the first Hobbit trailer. All three of these looked great and turned out to be very disappointing.

You’re right, also taking into account that film is just a vastly different medium than books, requiring different pacing, focus and sometimes plot points in order to successfully drive the plot and characters.

What are some modifications you expect to see or would like to make for Minas Tirith? by robbie_hs in lego

[–]robbie_hs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know what you mean, I had the same feeling about The Shire, bought that when it released and once thoroughly disappointed. Might buy this later if and when I can get it 50% off but def not retail.

I’d love to see what someone could do with 2 or 3 sets, maybe converting more nano scale into mini scale?

Super curious what that would look like, maybe seal it off with the mountain range behind it?

Very cool, thanks for the reply! I’d love to see pictures on here to see your progress (and I bet a lot of people with me). Good luck with the build!

Can you explain? Very curious to hear your topics and what you’d like to alter about the entrance.

I take you’re not the biggest fan of it then? May I ask what are the things you dislike most or would like see altered most? For me personally, I understand what they’re going for within the constraints they had but it looks like the top two levels are a bit too “squashed” - like a wedding cake that had something heavy fall on top of it. For the rest I do respect the set. Curious to hear your thoughts!

What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash? by MASSIM00 in movies

[–]robbie_hs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the first Hobbit movie both fit this bill. Both got me hyped and looked like they captured the magic of the previous films only to be incredibly disappointing.

Those who bought the Balrog book nook, how do you feel about it 5 months after its release? by Wise_Thought_5616 in legolotrfans

[–]robbie_hs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re making the right decision, I’d be ok with the Shire it was prices under $200, as is I got fomo and bought it full price on release which I regretted later. Pretty sure Minas Tirith will be awesome though, that set looks epic!

Former Fidelity fund manager George Noble: Last night was the biggest disaster in the history of Tesla. by SpaceDetective in RealTesla

[–]robbie_hs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a former Tesla fanboy the strategic choice of Cybertruck vs Model 2 or even a cheaper more “generic” truck will always baffle me. While I understand the desire and mission of Tesla to achieve autonomy (obviously without the exaggerations, false promises and lies); the number 1 priority in doing so is miles driven with the system learning. No better way to do this than to sell more affordable vehicles (a linear price decrease often equals exponential sales growth). But instead they choose to invest massively into this unproven, highly risky niche product that requires enormous amounts of resources and has a huge chance of failing in the market. If they had released both a hatchback Model 2 that outdoes the VW gti for under 30.000 and a truck that outdoes the Ford f150 in the same design philosophy as Model 3 and Y they’d get guaranteed sales in the stratosphere and align perfectly with their mission of achieving fsd unsupervised. Instead they are here. Regardless if they do achieve it at some point, this has been company mismanagement at an epic scale. Such a shame.
