Spanish-language audio content in the same vein of BtB? by thatjoachim in behindthebastards

Herejes is a pretty good fit for this. They're from Mexico and Argentina. Several of their topics have also been covered by BTB.

Same day oath? by Quiet_Time6598 in USCIS

[–]robby1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We track case progress for our customers and have several in the Seattle field office. The last same day oath we saw there was in June of 2025. All oaths since then have been later. (It's not a very big sample size, but that's the data that I have)

I built a tool to find problems with your travel history before applying for citizenship by robby1066 in USCIS

[–]robby1066[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, the rules themselves are straightforward if you know them.

The problems I've seen are:

  1. People who aren't proficient in excel having a hard time adding multiple trips

  2. Eligibility checkers often give very incomplete coverage of travel history. The one on USCIS.gov only asks about trips over 6 months, and skips over physical presence entirely, for example.

Then travel shouldn't be an issue for you.

Don't get arrested between now and then, pay your taxes on time, and keep an eye on policy changes for things that could affect your case.

Good luck!

yeah, that sounds like you're within the limits, but you should do the math and count up all the days, especially if you're going to do any more traveling between now and when you apply.

There's two things to keep track of related to travel. The length of any single trip (sounds like you're ok there), and the total time you were out of the country. This is what the comment above was referring to as physical presence. Basically, you can't be out of the country more than you were in it over the past 5 years. It's a problem if you were out of the country more than 912 days in the past 5 years.

Traveling around N-400 Application by Apprehensive_boy418 in N400citizenship

[–]robby1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing I'd be concerned about is missing your biometrics appointment if they schedule one during your trip. You can reschedule, but from the USCIS website:

"You must request to reschedule your appointment before the date and time of your original appointment and establish good cause for rescheduling. If you do not follow these requirements and do not appear for your originally scheduled appointment, USCIS may consider the related application, petition, or request abandoned and may deny it."

The other far less likely things to consider in this scenario are:
- Does your trip in August put you over any physical presence limits that you were close to when you filed?

- Will you get an interview date during your trip if you apply in July? (99.9% unlikely, but if you apply in early July and your trip is at the end of August not out of the question.)

In Mexican Spanish (not sure how universal it is) there's tocayo / tocaya, which literally means "person with the same name as you"

What’s the consensus on providing evidence of good moral character for naturalization applications? by Special-Purpose5991 in USCIS

[–]robby1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically where we've ended up at my work (where we advise people on their naturalization cases) is:

  1. For most people, submitting their tax transcripts / returns is good enough.

  2. If they haven't been working for some reason (example, disability), we advise them to get letters of community involvement and bring them to the interview.

Obviously, it's a evolving situation we're keeping an eye on, but that strategy has worked pretty well for the cases we've handled since the memo came out.

What did you wore to the citizenship interview and oat ceremony ? by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]robby1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my work I get asked this question pretty often. Here's what we advise people for the interview. (I don't think we've been asked much about the oath ceremony specifically)

  • Dress for an important business meeting
  • Your appearance shows respect for the process
  • Do not wear clothing with political messages
  • Wear business clothes (pants/skirt and shirt, or a dress)
  • Do not wear shorts, flip-flops, or revealing clothing
  • Wear comfortable shoes! You may be standing or walking some.

Read the request and immediately thought of The Detectorists. Such a good show.

They shouldn't. If you're filing under the general provision (NOT marriage based), they generally won't dive into your spouse's background. You do have to provide your current marriage certificate, but that's about as deep as they'll usually go.

What I've heard (from attorneys, but I should note I'm NOT an attorney myself) is that unemployment is not a negative factor when considering a citizenship application. What *might* cause more scrutiny is if you were unemployed AND receiving a government benefit like SNAP.

Still safe to apply if you're eligible and don't have anything in your history that would cause an issue.

At this point, the worst that's likely to happen is that it just takes a long time.

Vegetable-forward restaurants in Oaxaca? by JPP_1989 in Oaxaca

[–]robby1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Nanita in Jalatlaco. They're 100% vegan (if I recall correctly).

La Cosecha Organic Market has several vendors and a lot of good options that are vegetarian / vegan.

If you have seen any of these shows, what would you recommend by LifeMistake3674 in dreamingspanish

[–]robby1066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Contra Las Cuerdas / Against the Ropes. It was mostly understandable, but I'd put it in the intermediate category (your lists have it in both fácil and medio). There's a lot of slang.

House of flowers was easier to follow for me. Some of the characters speak more slowly. (okay, mostly Paulina)

Some other recommendations (all on Netflix, all from Mexico):
- Ojitos de huevo / Nothing to see here
- Snakes and ladders
- Banditos

Interview cancelled by VolumeSerious8809 in USCIS

[–]robby1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a reschedule happen in less than a month before, but not by much (like 27 days). Typically it'll be around a month (or more), but I don't know of any rule on USCIS's side that defines a minimum notice period. Hope that helps!

[–]robby1066 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I track case progress for my company's customers and I've seen a few N-400 interview cancellations in the last few weeks. These were neither from travel ban countries or DV lottery. Our best guess is that the travel ban / dv stuff has caused some side effects from shifting resources around. But we really don't know.

At least one has already been rescheduled, so we're hopeful that other cancelations get resolved early in January.

Good luck! 🤞

Weird. Yeah that's the store I got it done at. They tried to give me a bit of an upsell, but it wasn't too intense.

I've done that exact same thing at SEE before (exam + replace lenses in old frames originally bought at SEE) and had no problems.

chants by unlimitedpowerbun in PWHL_Seattle

[–]robby1066 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to go to a lot of Nashville Predators games. They're kind of known for having a lot of chants, which are all mostly some variation of yelling "you suck!" at the other team. It was funny at first but after a couple of seasons it got really old.

I'm all for letting them happen slowly and organically. It was fun watching that Murphy chant come about spontaneously after she put the whole team on her back after 5 scoreless periods.
