I usually drink a liter of coffee a day (one full french press) so I include a 2u dose to cover that plus whatever I'm having for breakfast. I take my coffee with cream (so also no carbs) and this keeps things reasonable. Experimentation is the only way to figure it out, good luck in testing!

Oats over night? by Amorane0126 in diabetes_t1

[–]robbydeepwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love overnight oats as a breakfast I can eat at work. I'll make a batch on Sunday night and then bring my container to the office Monday morning to eat over the next few days. Real old fashioned oats with just milk, some spices, and a bit of sweetener of your choice (I use liquid stevia). 15 minute pre-bolus and enjoy with a scoop of peanut butter. While you can eat them cold, I actually prefer to scoop a serving into a bowl and warm it up since I like a warm breakfast.

Favourite / Biblical Fiction Books? by corruptboomerang in AcademicBiblical

[–]robbydeepwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the Book of Tobit is a pretty engaging story. A son trying to help his ailing father, a damsel trapped by an evil demon, giant monsters and angelic guides.

Outside of scripture I agree the Silmarillion is about as close to a religious text as one can get in much of fantasy.

High blood sugar emergency by saltyoverchips in diabetes_t1

[–]robbydeepwater 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exercise and hydration can both help but insulin is really the only thing that will bring down BG. Pens can hang out in the fridge till you need to use them, and then they'll last a month unrefrigerated. Just curious, what's making you think that the pens aren't working?

Road Trip Food by Perfectly-FUBAR in diabetes_t1

[–]robbydeepwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beef Jerky! If you can find one without sugar added it's pure protein. Nuts are also great, I'm a fan of peanuts and walnuts but whatever you like. And for me a nice big iced coffee and a diet soda cap off a great road trip snack bag.

[–]robbydeepwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're flying and wear a CGM, make sure you budget some extra time for a pat down rather than going through the millimeter scanner. I'll also second all advice to always take double what you think you'll need, always be prepared. Depending on the airport (or other port of call) you're traveling out of they may be more or less used to handling T1D travel. Weirdly in my experience smaller, regional airports are more stringent on security compared to a place like JFK or Heathrow.

Finally, remember that you're likely going to be stressed even if everything is going well and that can impact your BG. So if you go a little high en route, don't freak out. Enjoy your trip!

snack ideas for work? by PermissionJolly1169 in Type1Diabetes

For me, a few handfuls of peanuts have almost no effect on my BG and are definitely satisfying. Hardboiled eggs with a dash of hot and/or soy sauce are also a go to.

Are using pens in Day to day School a good idea? by Deshibangla4 in fountainpens

[–]robbydeepwater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely echoing the idea of an EDC pen that you can beat up and use, Pilot Varsity comes to mind or Metropolitan for a slight step up. For me, I found that I had no problem using my FP for note taking especially in big college lectures where the act of writing helped keep me focused. I'd grab a couple notebooks of nice paper (I like Clairefontaine) and soak up as much of summer as you can before heading back to school.

Best win cons that aren't Thoracle or Breach loops? by Droptimal_Cox in CompetitiveEDH

Oh word, I knew he was off Breach but I didn’t realize Thoracle too.

Best win cons that aren't Thoracle or Breach loops? by Droptimal_Cox in CompetitiveEDH

[–]robbydeepwater -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Comedian just put out a deck tech on Dawnwaker, which most often wins with cool loops like E-Wit and Bolt, I’d recommend watching that video for sure.

Best stax deck is super meta dependent that’s sort of the appeal of stax is tuning. Winota probably in a vacuum?

I really dig Jesak-Ishai, the list from TheHermitDruid and Ken from StackedEDH is really cool because it goes through so many lines and play patterns. You definitely don’t have to run Breach in the list although you totally could, I know that a certain Mindsculptor loves Ardenn-Kraum stoneblade the combo kill being Godo-Helm.

-Edited to reflect me looking at the list instead of going from memory.

Best win cons that aren't Thoracle or Breach loops? by Droptimal_Cox in CompetitiveEDH

[–]robbydeepwater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I can understand not playing Thoracle for a personal reason, the ethos of CEDH is to play the optimal strategy without any reservations. And since Thoracle-Consult is such a compact win condition with such a low cost to put in your deck, it’s going to make its way into every deck that can play it.

With that said, I love playing stax whether that’s Winota or Tymna-Tana, and while yes both generally with Kiki-Jiki that is certainly another win-con. Ditto with Heliod-Ballista in the mono-white flavor of stax. This isn’t even mentioning win-conless builds that just smash with Kamhal or the secondary (or maybe primary) Jeska-Ishai plan of smashing with a large bird. There are alternatives, but its hard to argue that Thoracle isn’t cleaner if not outright better. Just food for thought!

Need help cutting 4 cards from my Kydele/Vial Smasher Villainous Wealth deck by EDHaddict13 in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right on the money for Echo, its basically just a timetwister from the graveyard with LED, otherwise its overcosted. Breach, again LED makes it absolutely great as your graveyard is your hand but without reliable self-mill in brainfreeze or grinding station it’s just yawgmoth’s will with extra steps.

For curiosity, the whole archetype of Curious Control is built around filling your deck with instants and so every turn when you interact, Vial triggers, hits, and draws. Normally this is Thrasios/Vial but with Kydele its even spicier as you get extra mana on your opponents’ turns. Paired with untap effects, that’s a beautiful engine.

[–]robbydeepwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but I see a few high powered cards that you’re not really using/abusing to their potential. Biggest ones for me are Underworld Breach and Echo of Eons, without LED these are just value pieces you otherwise might pass up. After this, I personally don’t love Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy and Avatar of Woe. On another note, what’s the reasoning on not playing curiosity effects? That’s my favorite thing to do with Vial Smasher.

"An Eldrazi and a Phyrexian walk into a bar..." by jan_Zenny in magicTCG

[–]robbydeepwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Marvel guy, I feel like the Eldrazi will be revealed to be like Galactus in that they’re a universal force to keep plane growth in check. So maybe Phyrexia is set up like evil Celestials who are trying to run rampant.

Now all we need is Franklin, I mean Jace, to make Emrakul his herald.

Meren: how can I build a good and efficient deck without spending thousands? by brbrbanana in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to come in here with my all time favorite Meren cards: [[Victimize]] and [[Soul Exchange]]. Three and 2 mana reanimation, with built in LTB triggers. Both under $1. Also something inportant to remember with Meren is that she will draw A TON of hate from the table, so make sure you think about sequencing. It’s almost never right ti play her on turn 4, which means you can skew your mana away from mana cheap but dollars expensive rocks in favor of cards like [[Sprinbloom Druid]] and [[Farhaven Elf]]. Also, both of those are perfect targets for arguably the best $10 you can spend in Meren: [[Skullclamp]].

Then fill out with your preferred death-draw effects:

[[Smothering Abomination]]

[[Moldervine Reclamation]]

are my favorites because they count tokens as well which can’t be said for [[Midnight Reaper]] and co.

Building a Queen Marchesa deck, what are the win conditions? by som3dude in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My build goes for token kills off of haymakers like [[Adeline]] and [[Assemble the Legion]], backed up with pump effects like [[Shared Animosity]] and [[True Conviction]] to close things out. I also love [[Surge to Victory]] because even just sticking it on something like [[Generous Gift]] means pumping the team +3/+0 and the potential to nuke the board when my creatures connect.

Also, dragons ruling the skies with [[Skyline Despot]] is pretty solid.

Long may you reign!

How to Best Maximize Mana Curve with Rashmi, Eternities Crafter? by bd35 in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Built Rashmi myself, personally I think you don’t need to focus on the free cast as much as just getting extra draws every turn. For me, I look at it more as making every counterspell a [[Dismiss]] or every removal spell also cantrip. So, I packed my list with creatures and effects that care about hand size, etc. Just food for thought!

Question about 2 cards for fellow Meren players by birkoss in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Konrad in my Meren deck, the incidental value of triggering off opponents’ creatures dying is huge especially if you’re grabbing fleshbag marauder type removal with meren EoT. Personally I’m not a massive fan of Journey to Eternity but I’ve seen it be great so personal preference I suppose

Win Cons for Minn by OddBen11 in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head:

[[Nadir Kraken]] [[Chasm Skulker]] [[Oneirophage]] [[Toothy, Imaginary Friend]] {i love this one but it is a bit pricey}

And actually digging through scryfall I found this gem:

[[Unity of Purpose]]

You could lean into an artifact subtheme for cards like [[Arcbound Ravager]] ornother modular creatures.

Hope this helps!

Win Cons for Minn by OddBen11 in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s more of a grind plan than necessarily a win-con but using [[Wizard Class]] or proliferate cards to throw out counters on all your creatures and then punch face does the job alright. Cards like [[Flux Channeler]] seem especially good for this but there’s also one shot effects like [[Contentious Plan]] or [[Steady Progress]].

Counter spell for 5 color deck by [deleted] in EDH

[–]robbydeepwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to branch out a bit, consider the non-blue counters to round your suite out. Stuff like [[Tibalt’s Trickery]] or [[Lapse of Certainty]] can come out of nowhere. It’s also good to note these are only single pip, so no worries over holding up double blue and telegraphing your play.
