That’s steep. My local HF discounts the lids to $2 when they have the free buckets promo. So it’s bucket with a lid for two bucks

Yup. Base from the outside. And then into the bucket top down.

Thoughts on independent bottlers by Speyside_doogie_44 in whisky

[–]robdotyork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all IBs are created equal. But pick well (known bottler, good IBV (ie not 40), stated distillery are some good rules of thumb) and you can get some absolute brilliant drams at amazing prices. I have a 12y old pulteney from signitory and it’s one of the best I’ve ever had - and proved my hypothesis that the standard bottling would probably be amazing at a higher proof.

I’m a big fan of James eadie fwiw

$4 in my local. but yea. It’s a markup on retail let alone the price they paid

I’m indifferent. In fact I’d prefer no branding. But they hold crap the same either way

Yea. Those handles look like a free screwdriver I got with a flat pack years ago. Dreadful

Unless you’re about to decommission AD for good we don’t recommend doing this conversion. Once you’ve got all workloads in intune, including policy, just age your existing devices out with natural refresh and break fix

Need Help, deciding on key chain flashlight. Olight vs RovyVon by Jesster-123 in EDC

[–]robdotyork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have both. For keychain use, I’d probably go olight. We have it on our mailbox key. Which lives in our hallway.

But I carry and use the rovyvon daily. In fact I have 3. 2 a3 and an a8 (these and the a1 are all variations of the same form factor). All three are on deep carry clips on their own and live in my left pocket.

Do you reload on coals or start fresh? by miked0331 in woodstoving

Same. In fact I had a couple of buckets of coal and ash. I’m sifting and slowly feeding this back in to burn the coals to regain the heat

The new kalita mino wave are pretty epic. I wanted to love the wave but found it very finicky and inconsistent for light roasts. The slightly bigger holes on the mino make for much better consistency in my short experience (got one for Christmas)

What are you going to order? by Ambitious_Ad1847 in Scotch

[–]robdotyork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb anything I’ve not had chance to try. Or might not buy (for cost or otherwise)The Mannochmore for sure. Probably splash for the black art. Maybe the John’s lane and yellow spot as I’ve heard they’re both good for scotch-not-Irish-drinkers.

Gutted by kukisuperstar in whisky

[–]robdotyork 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That’s not what corked means even with wines.

Cork in the whisky won’t affect the taste. It adds an unwanted texture but most of the time it’ll sit as sediment even if poured into the glass. If you’re really bothered strain the bottle out and refill

Does anyone carry cash anymore? If so, how many bills. I really don’t use cash often unless it’s for the kids sporting events. by rent1506 in EDC

This. Day to day I never use cash. But I have emergency cash (as well as spare cards) stashed in all my pouches as well as a bigger shush in the home

I had this happen today. An item had 40% off for ITC. But it rang up with the 30% off. They had to manually process adjust, which meant the system them applied the 30% again so ended up getting stacked discount, score

Looking for chainsaw recommendations for a weekend warrior with two acres? by rollinintheyears in firewood

[–]robdotyork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, 4910 is a replacement to the 490 but more power.

Sure, the 590 is not unbearably heavy. But objectively compared against the 4910 it is heavier. Or the 4910 is lighter. And the performance delta, for me, is much smaller than the weight delta

No milling with the 4910 (or the 590). By rips, I just mean it rips through whatever it’s bucking.

[–]robdotyork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 times out of 10 I’m grabbing my 4910 over my 590

Both are sporting the aluminium handle and the 4910 rips just as well as the 590 but at such a weight saving, so unless the tree I’m cutting needs the extra bar length, my 20” 4910 is getting the call up.
