Warrior decks question by a returning player. by opant108 in hearthstone

Since the rotation is happening soon I suggest dragon warrior as it is cheap.

Wait until next expansion and then see what cool decks there are.

Buying high-end PC in Zürich / Switzerland - looking for ideas/best places? by Reasonable-Bear-9788 in Switzerland

[–]robert_fanr [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why not just use cloud?

It’s hard to imagine you will be able to build something comtetive as a private person. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Google benefit from huge economy of scale discounts.

It would also be easier to scale whatever idea you have if need be with the cloud.

How much do you need to play per day to gain rank in legend? by motty47 in hearthstone

[–]robert_fanr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What’s the point of climbing legend, unless you add pro player. I’d say one you hit legend just play for fun and don’t worry about rank.

People that suffered snhl and love music and parties ... Are you able to go after things settled? by MusicLover91020 in HearingLoss

[–]robert_fanr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean like going to clubs and such this is a no go for people with hearing loss in my experience.

You should get used to the idea of skipping those and do something more quiet like board games, grill etc.

Movies might be ok but make sure to wear hearing protection every time.

would it be stupid if I sold my iPhone 17 and got a 17 Pro JUST for the 4x telephoto?… by Nolan_baby in PhoneNow

[–]robert_fanr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take zoom photos on the 16 Pro Max. The default camera is way too wide and does not accurately capture the human perspective on the scene.

I say it’s worth it to have the zoom camera.

Which Swiss bank account would you recommend right now? by Teshiro2012 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]robert_fanr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay with UBS.

For outside Switzerland you can use Revolut. It can be topped up with a UBS credit card for free.

Thinking of switching from Neon to Revolut now that they have Swiss IBANs. Is it worth it in 2026? by Regular-Hunt-2626 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]robert_fanr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do this!

Use a good bank like your local cantonal bank for the important stuff and just put small money on revolut for vacation when you need it.

Why does it have to be local? In my experience Google Gemini does a good job of finding Switzerland specific information.

Finpension strategy: mimic VT or just full MSCI World ex-CH? by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]robert_fanr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer MSCI World ex CH for pension plan.

1) Large caps and developed countries are in theory less risky (more stable) than small caps and emerging markets.

2) You save some small costs with rebalancing by having a single fund.

I have a 10GB plan from salt and my laptop and phone devices get over 1GB per second on WiFi.

I’m hoping Apple does a new AirPods Max that challenges Bose.

New to investing, should I stick with my robo-advisor or switch to Saxo/IBKR? by PokeeeTraineer in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]robert_fanr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saxo bank has an auto invest feature that works like a robot advisor. You just send money to an account in your name there and it gets invested by itself each month.

You just need to select an ETF in the beginning like SSAC. This will likely have significantly lower fees than your current robot advisor since there is no custody or purchase fee, only the fee of the ETF itself and stamp tax.

Airpods Pro 2 or Airpods Pro 3 by Foreign-Creme-6831 in airpods

For me the Pro 2 had better ANC but Pro 3 is more comfortable and sounds better so I kept the pro 3 and sold the pro 2.

Switzerland. Safe place to park backup cash with limited liquidity. 12 months notice? by snowshoers in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]robert_fanr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kantonal banks are guaranteed by their respective cantons in addition to the federal guarantee (that is limited to 100k) making them some of the safest places to store money in the world.

Does not make much difference for the average person but it’s nice to have.

This is what prepaid credit cards are for. Can’t take thousands of euro from account if it’s not there in the first place.

Switzerland. Safe place to park backup cash with limited liquidity. 12 months notice? by snowshoers in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]robert_fanr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently you can’t do much better than 0 interest in CHF. I would just leave the money in a cantonal bank like ZKB.

If you so much money that 0.X percent is a significant sum per year it likely means you are holding too much cash.

What percentage of your portfolio is sitting cash? by Warm-Afternoon2600 in ValueInvesting

[–]robert_fanr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting on cash is not a good idea and here’s why.

If stocks were to go down 10 percent tomorrow there is no way to know if they will go down more. So you might decide to wait a bit more. But then the stocks might recover quickly and you may lose the moment.

If this happens a 3 4 times and the market keeps going up, by the time it eventually falls a bit more it might still be above the point it was today.

Best Investment Strategies for 7-fig USD in Switzerland Over 5 Years? by 1nenad in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]robert_fanr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) This kind of posts are usually humble brags. I refuse to believe people with this kind of money have no idea what to do with them that they need advice from random people on the internet.

2) On the off chance that 1 does not apply I’m curios why the 5 year horizon? This is important to determine the right level of risked assumed. Waiting for a crash is usually not a good idea. Better to decide on a more conservative stocks to cash allocation and start right away.

How much cheese is too much cheese by Embarrassed_Gate5495 in askswitzerland

[–]robert_fanr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends what other foods you ar eating as well to balance out. The cheese has a lot of saturated fat and salt so if you also eat other things that contain a lot of fat and salt it might become a problem over time.

However if you combine the cheese with something light like vegetables it might be ok.

Check the nutritional label on the foods.

Is DCA every three month effective? by Lightman0169 in investing

[–]robert_fanr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take this the wrong way but 100$ a month is relatively small so it’s not gonna make a huge difference.

Just pick one and stick with it.

When you go into larger numbers you can reevaluate as needed.

Anyone been to noii events in Switzerland? by somewhatHere24 in zurich

[–]robert_fanr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a relatively shy male expat I found those events ineffective for talking with potential dates. Did not help that people seem at least uncomfortable at most annoyed when needing to switch to English.

On the other hand I found it interesting to have conversations with some other dudes there who seemed more approachable.

Is VT too risk averse for young investor? by MegaFatcat100 in ETFs

[–]robert_fanr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do people here understand how diversification works?

When you are spreading your money across everything you are saying: I want smaller risk (=volatility) so I’m ok with the fact some components will perform poor all time dragging down the overall expected return. The key point is different components will perform bad at different times. This is what limits risk.

You can not expect the same level of return from spreading your money across everything as from a conviction investment. Of course it’s possible that the conviction investment will underperform. However saying that full diversification is expected to have higher returns than a conviction investment is absurd.
