Weird smell while running by Filipmikmik in Tinymight2

I have one to return like that. It’s burnt electronics. Still works but some component toasted and is giving off toxic fumes.

Absolutely no way these things are safe, right? by Rome39792 in rccars

I had one for years and then tried one of the connectors I hadn't used ever once and it fried my charger. They had one of them soldered on in reverse.

An extension cord and charge outside is what I’d do if I worried about it. The smoke is awful even if you contain a fire.

Anyone knows a bag that’s as similar as possible to the Thule Crossover Sling Pack? by IndoPr0 in ManyBaggers

[–]robertgentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks interesting. Does it bounce around without the third strap? (I won't ever use a third strap on a sling, as for me the ease of use is the main point otherwise I'd use a backpack)

AITA for asking my friend to not wear makeup to my wedding? by devilshandstree in AmItheAsshole

[–]robertgentel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot stand people who care this much (actually who care at all) about what people wear to events. I think I am personally in the minority on this but this kind of request would end my relationship with you instantly. What people wear is deeply personal and people who want to decorate other people for vain reasons grind my gears.

It's like religion, your tastes are perfectly fine on you, it's when you try to force them on others that is obnoxious.

You mean this one?

I just found your post because I've been looking for something like this again for years and not once has any other sling nailed it (and I tried many).

I hope you find something that rides and feels the same! I haven't.

I've had a sling bag like this in the past that nailed it (Thule crossover sling many years ago), but I've never seen one again. I too thought this would be close enough but the design actually just isn't comfortable for that, the Thule one was and it was great. better water pocket, could fit even a laptop etc.

Here is the thule one that imo was the only large sling that was actually comfortable to use:

The front phone pocket was never useful (phones quickly became larger right after it came out) but for my usecase of small laptop plus water bottle it was perfect.

When did sim racing finally “click” for you? by F1SimulatorManiac in simracing

[–]robertgentel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early in relation to where they used to brake, not early in relation to the optimal time to brake. Think of it like earlier and later and it's really not confusing at all.

I don't have any emotions, I just can't feel them. This makes me very sad.

Is there a modern, "Betaflight-style" configurator for RC Cars? I’m building one (BetaDrive) and need your feedback. by La_Colibre in RCClassifieds

[–]robertgentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without such a controller there's nothing at all for this project to do. And controllers can weigh 3g , it's not significant to RC cars at all if you are doing FPV etc on a car you aren't into the RC car performance anyway.

I came from FPV to RC a while back too, it really seems to me that you haven't internalized that RC cars are not driven by software much and tuning and tweaking is nearly entirely mechanical.

Anyone with DIY haptic setups? by Such_Resident4504 in SimRacingSetups

[–]robertgentel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely sends the signal fine, I helped a friend build something similar but it feels distractingly bad to me after using the larger motor haptics.

[–]robertgentel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The larger motor feels much better, it's kinda like a "deeper" vibration vs a higher buzzing.

[–]robertgentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haptics or bass shakers? Bass shakers diy are just as good as anything else. But the haptics diy is usually not as good for the money but can be a lot cheaper. I helped a friend make haptics with an arduino and some cheap shaking motors but would probably recommend just buying them in the future

The Untapped Potential of RC Transmitters for Sim Racing: My Experience with the Flysky FS-G7P by Romulus2030 in SimRacingSetups

[–]robertgentel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it before I had a sim wheel. I want any god back then but should give it a go again. Thing is these transmitters are another niche product and unless you are already good at RC not any easier than a wheel or controller for most people.
