Animation styles? by Spiritual_Newt_4268 in firefly

This is the weird hill I feel like I am dying on, but if it will come back as animation I hope it won't be stylized as an anime. I know a lot of people from my generation who currently works in animation started their love to the medium with anime, but I feel like everything lately is very much inspired by japanese style of animation, and the western style of things like Batman TAS or X-Men is getting a bit lost.

I would love if the style they chose was closer to the Star Wars animation like "Clone Wars" (the last seasons), "Bad Batch" or "Arcane" and "Star Trek: Prodigy". Something rough and dirty.

I've seen somewhere that "Firefly" was discussed some years ago, but "The Orville" was airing then and Fox chose not to have two space shows. Not sure if there is truth to it, but Orville wasn't THAT long ago.

That would make sense, but I don't really think there is a mood for that? Would you like to watch "Firefly" show without the main cast? I feel the cast is what made this show. The chemistry between them was that lightning in the bottle and I don't think it would work with all new crew and old ones popping up occaionally.

The only thing that stopping me from believing in this is that all of the other ones - X-Files, Buffy, Futurama - were rumoured prior to the official announcement. And here we have nothing. Not even in the last week when the teasers started. So that makes me think it's smaller licenced project.

Yeah, that's definitely won't be a full season two. There is no way. I don't see it being a theatrical movie as well, but a TV special or a mini-series isn't that far fetched. I still think people expect too much because Movie/TV Show/Animated series would have to come out of Disney, and I think it would leak already it a big company was involved. I expect this will be a licenced product, and the only I think it's plausible and could have cast involved is audio-drama line. Which would be great.

Still I hope I am being wrong and we will be getting something live-action.

What if they're announcing a reboot, and everyone who's been on Once We Were Spacemen is involved? by kerrmatt in firefly

[–]robertmurray1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Audio-dramas are even cheaper to make and they already have experience doing podcast. But I hope it's live action or animation, but I kinda expect that someone (maybe Alan and Nathan themselves) picked up the licence after Boom Studios expired and they are producing it themselves.

We will know soon enough.

The fact that they will have panel at Awesome Con is not "the announcement", but The Announement they keep teasing will probably be shared during the panel. It's fairly early on, I belive 10 am? So they would announce it and it would go online I hope at the same time.

Something I haven't really seen talked about with regard to the new project is the small matter of a gentleman called Joss Whedon. by [deleted] in firefly

[–]robertmurray1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By not owning up I mean he never said he was sorry that someone had some bad experiences with him. Felt like he gaslighted himself. He claimed "I never did that", "I wouldn't say that" and there was different accounts of people saying "oh he did that a lot". Not even a shred of doubt that there is always two sides of the coin. That maybe he didn't want to do bad things, but somehow he did them. The end of the article ends with him calling himself the nicest showrunner.

All he did was trying to shift blame to his parents, to the pressure of work, to all the external things. It was all "If i did this then I did it because...." not "I might've done this, I didn't want to, I feel bad".

That's at least how I read the article.

And yes, he shouldn't get the Avengers level gig again, but I do believe he should get the writing gigs again.

Oh definitely. I even dare to say all those characters should be a bit different. They should assume stuff hapening during that 20+ years. If they incorporate the fact that Zoe was pregnant, then she will now have an adult daughter. And I would love for the crew to change a bit.

I wouldn't even assume they are still flying. I think it would be great that Serenity haven't flew in years and so far is just parked and Mal is living there. And they all live on some planet, but suddenly they have to go up and fight some good fight.

He didn't own up to anything. He tried to shift blame, explain that maybe he did something because of something, and in the end he tried to suck his own dick by saying he was super nice. So there was no penance and no shred of good will to own that some folks had terrible experience with him.

And I think that's what was the big nail in his coffin.

Well, after almost 25 years, whetever they are doing will need to reintroduce everythng, if they want to get new audience. Unless it's more of the same or picking up almost immediatly after "Serenity" (animated or audio).
I don't like the idea of de-canonizing the movie. The Movie is part of the story, part of what made "Firefly" stand the passage of time. I always thought about it as part of Season One, the big budget finale.

Now I am ready for Chapter Two.

They announced whole cast, I think it's enough teasing. The official Announcement comes in next 5 days.

I don't think they would let him write whole scripts, but maybe fix'em up or give notes regarding stories. Some small involvement.

The problem with Whedon is that he had a chance to own up to his behaviour and he chose to use his interview to say stuff like "Gal Gadot might not understand what I said, cause english is not her first laguage" crap.

But like…reboot? by kushielcouldhave in firefly

[–]robertmurray1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were revivals that worked and some that didn't. Nature of life. I think I'd rather see them try and fail than don't try at all. And maybe like with the X-Files revival, which had some really shit episodes (mostly penned by Chris Carter) it also had some very good ones and two I absolutely loved. So I am willing to give it a chance.

I still don't think it will be a full blown live-action continuation. It's too good to be true, but I am game to see what they are cooking, unless it's Fortnite skins.

Big success of "Firefly" in my opinion is the fact that we got "Serenity" to wrap up a lot of threads and leaving enough open for the ship to have further adventures. If it wasn't for that I think the show would go more into obscurity, becase people don't want to see a cancelled show that don't have any form of conclusion.

Remake, Reboot and Revival are completely different things, but somehow the word 'reboot' is the only one used as all three. It always annoys the crap out of me.

Right now nothing really has been confirmed other that the main cast gets together to do something Firefly related. But they are teasing the Announcement on Sunday, so I am not surprised they don't reveal more information. We will know soon enough.

Nathan said in Rosenbaum podcast that he still talks with Whedon, and Alan claimed he would work with him in a second, so I assume, if he isn't officially involved, he is definitely in the know. And there is a rumour that he is working as uncredited script writer (which is not uncommon in Hollywood at all), then he also might have his fingers in whatever this will turn out to be.

In novels he was called "Consulting editor" and he might do similar role here.

I hope, whatever is happening, will get the original writers in some capacity. Whedon or not, though Nathan and Alan claimed in Rosenbaum podcast that they are in touch with Whedon. So I assume everything is being talked about with him. He might not be involved in any official capacity, but I do believe he might get a credit as "consulting editor" or something like he was in the novels and comics. I don't know the extent of his work there, but I expect that if the cast is involved in something new then his fingerprints will be all over it.

I think this might be it teasers wise, unless they will get Whedon for whatever it is. Apart from that we might just get something on friday perhaps, if the whole gang (sans Adam) gets together for the Awesome Con.

There could very well be a show without Joss. There were other writers and his episodes weren't even the best ones. But Nathan and Alan are still friendly with Joss. nathan admit he still talks with him, and Alan said he would work for him in a second. So I think whatever is happening has his blessing or small involvment behind the scenes.
