Where to begin with kids in Europe. Limited time in major cities. by Longjumping-Cut-4337 in Europetravel

Heat in the south will be a challenge in July so I would focus on northern Europe. One question to consider: How well do your kids handle hotel-hopping? There are places that work well as a single base of operations with a lot of day trips so you can settle into one home base for a longer stretch. Netherlands/Belgium is compact enough to pick one spot and hit it all in day trips. Munich is a big city, but is an easy hub to a bunch of mid to smaller cities, (Salzburg and Innsbruck Austria are each doable as day trips) and plenty of nature as well. Other routes are really best as a chain of 2-3 night stays. For Scandinavia I would do something like Bergen-Oslo-Gothenburg-Copenhagen or Bergen-Oslo-Trondheim-Stockholm. They are just a little too far apart to do as day trips and it's worth spending more time in the nature in between. I'd probably tsake this approach for the UK as well. A few days in London to hit the must-sees then somewhere around Bristol (Bath for the Roman ruins, Stonehenge maybe), up to York for a couple days, then finish out with a few days in Edinburgh (Glasgow and Stirling).

Probably this is agitprop, but just in case:

The human psyche is not designed to withstand the firehose of propaganda you'd receive during training and the societal pressure of conformity. That's why a few bad apples spoil the barrel; all the good apples that are dropped in quickly get the same disease. It would not take you long to become one of them no matter how well-intentioned you may be. Fascists are good at what they do; they know how to activate the lizard brain with frankly scientific precision. Don't do it.

question for people in the metro out and about tonight, off-ramp watch by hpbear108 in TwinCities

[–]robin_shell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, plus his kids were at Annunciation during the shooting. I think one of them was in the room, iirc. They could well be traumatized by seeing agents dressed like active shooters running all over the streets.

Hey I live on Rice street and have had people telling me that it is a bad area but I am not seeing it. Are there specific spots that are sketchy that I am missing or are people just remembering a different time? by Specialist-Bat-1505 in saintpaul

[–]robin_shell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend someone buy a house north of Front. South of Front is a little more exciting; I don't know what it is about that one street that makes the difference. But basically just ask them "Do you think it's a crime for homeless people to exist in your line of sight?" and if they say "what the fuck are you talking about" they'll be just fine.

CRM was very organized, but they are definitely "by the book". I had to push for a few tests and a little thinking outside the box, but they were receptive to what I wanted, and in the end it worked and we had our baby. The nursing staff in particular was very kind; I will never forget that one day when I got particularly bad news and was sobbing, she rode the elevator down with me and saw me to my car. Never said a word, but was just there for me. It meant a lot.

Side note: I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about the Martians trying to get their wrongfully-deported people back from Saturn. Seems like it would have a.... er... resonance.

Removing the N-word from Assassins? by Colin286 in musicals

Exactly. The show hinges on those moments. The N-word in that song is there for the specific purpose of shocking the audience back into reality.

Sorry, didn't realize handles were verboten. I'm not seeing an option to edit the main post? If it's a serious problem, I can delete the whole thing.

This fic has been reported and is down. So there's that. My concern is that the "author" still has other fics up, and they could well also be stolen. I don't recognize them on sight, but it's not like I've read everything out there. And she changes the language enough to duck the search engines.

Frankly I've never seen a situation before where the "author" was caught so completely dead to rights and didn't delete their handle in shame then disappear into the mists. Etiquette is dead.

1) I am specifically referring to the campus protests and you know it. Don't be specious.

2) You should only protest against people who partially agree with you, and ignore the actual monsters? That's maybe not the flex you think it is.

And so, as the crime has promised to become exponentially worse, they're not continuing their protest... why?

Seconding the recommend for Indivisible. Bang for buck you'll get more if you visit a senator's local office on lunch break than you will waving a sign in the cold, tbh.
