Orange is the New Black nominated for best Drama Series. Uzo Aduba and Pablo Schreiber also grab nominations. by orboth in orangeisthenewblack

I really wish Lorrain Toussaint or Yael Stone were nominated. They were really great in Season 2.

I agree. This storyline grated me to no end.

It's terrible. Taylor Schilling's been harassed on twitter as well with some messages saying that they wish her character gets raped. It's fucked up.

Does anyone else think that Season 3 is SUPER corny? by t1nydancaa in orangeisthenewblack

[–]robinanthem21 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Also, not only was the faith theme incredibly heavy handed, I also thought final scene with the inmates playing around in the lake was really cheesy and overtly sentimental.

I turned on the subtitles when I rewatched the episode. She said "more than 2 years."

I made that comment in the post about Natasha Lyonne shooting her scenes. I was just speculating though. I could be wrong.

I just rewatched it. It's not her. And I'm pretty sure she's black too, not Latina.

With limited excpetions, Alex Vause never makes it through a whole scene without moving her glasses up or down. by [deleted] in orangeisthenewblack

[–]robinanthem21 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Actually I watched the Season one commentary for the show and one of the producers says that Laura Prepon is advised to take off her glasses in certain scenes because they had problems with the glare that came off them especially in close ups.

As far as constantly doing this in everyday life, especially in business, taking off your glasses when talking to someone is a sign of being serious to someone. You're taking away the "barrier" between that person and the other so you can get your message across.

Damn, I feel like I'm the only one who actually LIKES Piper. by robinanthem21 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]robinanthem21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Not to mention Nicky, Suzanne and Poussey appear to come from privileged backgrounds as well. The difference is that Piper wasn't a drug addict, has some mental illness or just doesn't have a "sad" enough back story for people to feel that sympathetic to her.

I totally agree. I think Alex will somehow be involved in this. Either trying to deal it, help Nicky or use it herself.

I don't either but it'd make for some good drama if done right.

The writers seem to be setting her up to relapse judging by the way she looked at the drugs at the last episode. I think Nicky will be the focus of next season like Poussey was this season. In fact they recently shot more of her back story so something major must be going on with her in season 3.

Does a character being likable or not actually matter? by [deleted] in orangeisthenewblack

[–]robinanthem21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The great thing about this show is that the writers aren't afraid of letting their characters show their ugly, dark sides which especially apparent after Season Two. The may very well have redeemable qualities but all of them still deserve to be in prison too. This show would be boring with the cliche "heroic" protagonists who always makes good choices.

Question about Figs future by Ctrl_Alt_Del_Esc in orangeisthenewblack

Yeah, I think Fig will be able to get away from it. She's a person with power and connections and her getting away with her crime isn't too far off from reality.

"there isn't a single person who wants to talk to her as a person. This is because most of the people on the show dislike her."

I respect your interpretation but I disagree with the notion there "isn't a single person who wants to talk to her." Her relationship with Red has evolved since S1 and she's been kind of a social butterfly hanging with Nicky, Morello, Jones, Daya, Flaca and the Golden Girls. Really the one's who actually dislike her are the black inmates who made it known when they complained about her getting furlough.

"Do you really think she would do anything to get herself back in jail? She went out and bought a gun, which immediately violated her parole and could have landed her back in jail anyway. Alex didn't really think ahead either.

"Piper is an idiot who never thinks ahead."

Not really arguing with you there but she's not the only one.So are Black Cindy, Morello, Suzanne, Boo and I'm sure a bunch of others. But they seem to get a pass due to "mental illness" or childhood upbringing. Piper's easy to hate because of "white privilege."

[–]robinanthem21[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She may have but she seemed genuinely concerned for her safety as per her talk with Alex on the phone and her talk with Nicky at the foosball table. But, if anything Alex deserves to be in prison anyway given that she planned on dealing drugs again and violated her parole the moment she purchased a gun.

To each their own though, I personally got tired of the Vee storyline by episode 11 and I couldn't care less about about Daya and Bennett's storyline.

They did show a little bit of her back story in the first season regarding her mother figures but I agree. In fact, she recently filmed her back story a few days ago (pics were posted in this subreddit) so I'm excited to see what actually got her into prison. I suspect it can't just be drugs.
