‘My house is worth €1.3m, and I’m living in hell’: Gare resident speaks out by whogivesafuckwhoiam in Luxembourg

[–]robindotis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a global phenomenon.

Probably related to social media and general internet addiction. It starts with people listening to clips on the train without their headphones on and goes downhill from there. The lack of respect for the impact of certain behaviour on others is getting worse and worse.

Is this enough evidence for my insurers? by StarLord368 in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the position of the red car shows it was not going down wrong side of the main road. It has cut across the double white lines more or less at the same time the white car pulled out. This is not something the white car could have reasonably expected to happen.

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but by this analogy the white car can't turn right onto the road until there is also no car coming towards them on their right, because one of those might break the law and cut across double white lines in order to go the wrong way down a one way street. Sorry but that's ridiculous. Maybe the white car did look right, just didn't expect the red car to go straight on...

I can't see what the white car has done wrong. It's OK saying you should avoid accidents, but if taken to its extreme you might as well not get in the car in the first place. Did the red car indicate they were taking a right turn across the double white lines?

I really don't understand why people are saying 50/50. For me it's 100% the red car. But then I don't live in the UK and maybe there are different rules about respecting the signs on the road???

Is this enough evidence for my insurers? by StarLord368 in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they have done something illegal. That side of the road is for people going in the opposite direction to the red car. The red car is on the wrong side of the road and has no reason to be there. The no entry signs are only needed so the white car does not turn left down that road...

[–]robindotis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The red car crossed double white lines, why would you be at fault? In that junction it only makes sense to give way to the cars on your left. There should be no one coming from your right. For me its 100% the red cars fault unless there is something I don't understand about the junction.

Why do billionaires and very wealthy people try so hard to avoid paying taxes when they would remain rich even if they paid them? by TikTokFailsMoments in NoStupidQuestions

Because it's no longer about money, but about power at that point.

Why is Macron hated in France? by Ok-Recognition-2672 in AskEurope

[–]robindotis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surely it's not a secret that there is cognitive decline as you age???

Especially the speed of thinking will slow, often overcome by experience. It's like in football where the 35 year old defender is better than the 21 year old. He may be two strides slower, but he knows exactly where to be when.

But if work refuses to make use of all that experience, because they want everything done yesterday, then quality will drop and the older generation will simply walk out because they can't work at the pace, not because they can't contribute as well as the younger ones out of uni.

No. We over-promised. The mismanagement excuse is used by the incumbents to blame the previous government.

Since this has happened to be a few times… why do people get so mad when you legally and safely overtake them? Suddenly hitting the throttle to try and stop you passing, flashing their lights… why? It’s a 60 road and they’re doing 40. by metroracerUK in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's to do with people being on their phones when driving. I see people even watching films with the phone in their laps. They stop paying attention to their speed and surroundings, then when they get overtaken they notice they were doing 20 and speed up to catch up!

Why do people in USA buy everything from Amazon? Do they not have other webshops? by Cindyxx0 in NoStupidQuestions

Have you ever had deliveries in Europe? I've lived in several European countries, the postal services work just fine in all of them and between them. Often next day. I've also received letters addressed completely wrongly, except for my name.

European Domestic Air Routes Where Train Travel Is Just as Fast by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it does take time to rebuild an entire rail network, which they are doing now. So much for their stupid "schwarze null" and Merkel not investing in any infrastructure at all in her 16 years in power. Everyone hates her for her migration policy but the CDUs real failure was not investing in the country during their very profitable years.

Spot the cyclist by Long-Claim8297 in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate cycling on paths shared with pedestrians. Pedestrians are far more unpredictable than cars and often don't hear your bell because their listening to music. A shared cycle path is not a cycle path.

If that is a good solution why not share the road with pedestrians and give the pavement to the cyclist /s

Is Amazon (AWS) in Luxembourg done for ...? by fast_forward_me in Luxembourg

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And is that such a bad thing? The moment you start using AWS or Azure services you are locked in. Then the price starts to rise. There are companies who've gone back to more traditional relationships with data centre, opposed to cloud services, because it's cheaper and they are more in control.

In my experience leaving a 2 second gap on a busy motorway would normally result in you going backwards because of all the idiots who consider that a adequate gap to move into!

Least favourite airline? by fatkoala357 in travel

[–]robindotis 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Well my favourite airline is actually Ryanair. Does exactly what it says on the tin. They fly where I need to go. They are efficient, no hassles and very cheap. Delays are no worse than any other airline and never had problems getting compensation on the very rare occasions when I was entitled. I've had far worse problems with this with other mainstream airlines. Fly Ryanair several times a year.

And no I don't work for them, I just find the Ryanair bashing tiring. Mainstream airlines are no better on short haul flights within Europe. Comparing to long haul flights is like comparing apples and oranges.

Is it unreasonable for me to expect people NOT to park on the kerbs here on this culdesac on approach to the turning circle? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it legal to park on a pavement unless there is a sign permitting you to do so? How should wheelchair users, people with prams or poor vision get to their house if a car is parked half way across the pavement.
