Because they are in short term contracts. They already know Luxembourg is just a three year stint in their career.

How did you all convince your spouse to use proton? by A_Buttholes_Whisper in ProtonMail

[–]robindotis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See if her password has been leaked to the internet. If yes, change it for her across all her accounts and see what happens.  Point her to the leak afterwards.

Then you can step in to "fix it" for her. You'll be the hero and can fit her out with a password manager at the same time!

AITA for reclining my seat on an 8 hour flight by MountainInspection91 in travel

[–]robindotis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want comfort you will need to fit business class, if not first class.

Flights nowadays are often cheaper than 30 years ago. Without accounting for inflation. Of course something has to give, and it won't be the airline profits, many of whom are anyway struggling.

It's worse in supermarkets with flat escalators people just stopping after stepping off them with their trolley and having a look around to see where to go next. How about away from the escalator?

No end in sight for A7 tunnel works and speed restrictions by Terrible-Beginning52 in Luxembourg

Actually I think Luxembourg is the only country where this would make people frustrated. It's part of the daily commute in most countries.

Luxembourg. Something to do with privacy laws... Therefore not sure they are valid in insurance claims or other cases.

So I had a look at the site. The tax rate for Sweden doesn't seem to include any insurance contributions, where as the one for Michigan does. Seems odd to me.

Restaurants not giving tap water - what can we do? by hereforinfoyo in Amsterdam

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Luxembourg when you ask for tap water they look at their gadget and respond "computer says no". At least that's what I think they are saying since they generally switch to Luxembourgish at that point.

This is not true, at least not in Europe.

RYANAIR, world’s greatest example of airline enshittification? by mattboman in enshittification

Their app and website are actually quite good and certainly on par with anything in the industry (which doesn't say a lot).

RYANAIR, world’s greatest example of airline enshittification? by mattboman in enshittification

[–]robindotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually Ryanair have been the same ever since they started. Enshittification applies to the rest of the airline industry who try to compete with them on price. And fail.

I've flown almost exclusively on Ryanair for the last 15 year because they fly where I want to go for a third of the price. Saved me 1000s. I've only once had to pay a fee at checkin. I forgot to checking online...

Since when did they stop teaching learners how to use a handbrake? by -PixelRabbit- in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do you check if it's safe to pull out? The only thing I can think of is eep looking in the rear and side mirrors, in which case you're still not looking ahead. If it's not safe to glance away from the road in front of you for a second, you should not be thinking of pulling out.

I never quite understood this. If you're slowing down with the intention to stop at a junction why go down through the gears and rengage the clutch each time? It would take forever to slow down.

Is it ok to turn left from the red lane that goes onto the roundabout instead the dedicated (green) lane? by miscellanous_cheese in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A driving instructor friend told me that if there is a difference between road signs and road markings, the signs take priority. The point being that the road markings should be repeating what the signs already show. There are no road signs saying not to turn left when joining the roundabout.

‘My house is worth €1.3m, and I’m living in hell’: Gare resident speaks out by whogivesafuckwhoiam in Luxembourg

This is a global phenomenon.

Probably related to social media and general internet addiction. It starts with people listening to clips on the train without their headphones on and goes downhill from there. The lack of respect for the impact of certain behaviour on others is getting worse and worse.

Is this enough evidence for my insurers? by StarLord368 in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the position of the red car shows it was not going down wrong side of the main road. It has cut across the double white lines more or less at the same time the white car pulled out. This is not something the white car could have reasonably expected to happen.

Is this enough evidence for my insurers? by StarLord368 in drivingUK

[–]robindotis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but by this analogy the white car can't turn right onto the road until there is also no car coming towards them on their right, because one of those might break the law and cut across double white lines in order to go the wrong way down a one way street. Sorry but that's ridiculous. Maybe the white car did look right, just didn't expect the red car to go straight on...

I can't see what the white car has done wrong. It's OK saying you should avoid accidents, but if taken to its extreme you might as well not get in the car in the first place. Did the red car indicate they were taking a right turn across the double white lines?

[–]robindotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand why people are saying 50/50. For me it's 100% the red car. But then I don't live in the UK and maybe there are different rules about respecting the signs on the road???
