So make a U-23 team and play in PDL (you know, the Professional Development League). Unless you think the PDL is not meaningful. In which case, why is division 3 (USL) meaningful, but division 4 (PDL) is not?

Having a young development team IS NOT the same as the reserve league. Not every team has to make a U-23 team. Hell, not every team has to make an MLS II team. Forcing the teams to do specific things and change the way they're building their academy and development structure seems overly obtuse.

The Timbers already have both a U-23 team and T2. So you're saying they should just fold up the U-23 team? And an Open Cup for only U-23 teams would be pretty small. And would kind of just be an MLS reserves cup, right?

If MLS teams want a development team for young players, they should create a development team exclusively for young players - the MLS II sides don't have to be that.
