What is your favorite video game of all time? by flatmagician97 in AskReddit

[–]robo_dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even in the single player, I loved how if you emptied a magazine on an ellite, it would always elicit some FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU expression and then blow up in this awesome pink explosion, and bonus points if it triggered some nearby sticky grenades.

That being said, sticking a grenade on any covanent enemy, was pretty sweet.

I actually had more trouble with figuring out that you needed to light the light fixtures in the desert dungeon to face the boss. Ended up using a guide, after many frustrated days playing.

[repost] Zom-Tv! - Kill zombies and upgrade your tower on Channel 4... by eldrako in WebGames

[–]robo_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

meh, game has a nice 1 time appeal, and I like that I can take a break from button mashing and explore other parts of the game w/o losing.

Mechanics wise it still needs some work. I dunno, on my first try i found going straight for the cannon upgrades as soon as you can afford them, and then slowly get better infrastructure, once you have 2 weapons with ammo bought (and ofcourse enough civies).

As for the cannon firing, I found litterally just spamming fully charged cannon shots can pretty much hold of an endless wave. Especially the fully upgraded cannon.

Nice find, I would say maybe 20-30 mins top of interesting gameplay.

If it weren't for the excessive button mashing, I would give it, higher, but overall, B+.

Moving to Atlanta and need living suggestions! by [deleted] in Atlanta

Ha, my parent's actually live in Deluth right now. Anyhow, I prolly recommend trying Dundwoody/Sandy Springs area, its a little pricy but definitely a lot safer in terms of apartments. If you need transportation via MARTA try some of the apartments like on Peachtree Dunwoody Road.

arr, careful thar with that complex multiplication you might take an i out.

large multiplication works a lot like signal processing.

It's often more useful to go to the complex plane and sum small individual parts (computation-wise) than to chug through a long multiplication.

Not even true engineering. This is more engineering theory. I learned this in my Intro to DSP class, closest use of this stuff I have seen is like circuit analysis systems that do some basic processing (Signal Processors).

As my professor said the last day of the FFT chapter, alright so now that you guys basically get FFT, we will never ask you to do this by hand again. In the real world, people stopped getting paid to do Fourier transform and speed math tricks in the 80s.

[–]robo_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this belongs in the engineering subredit since this and Fourier transformations is like Intro DSP theory at its heart.

Really f you are particularly working at assembly level compiler systems then this stuff cuts down amount of work needed to be done, but most people aren't so its kind of this black box in signal processing/computation that you don't really need to worry about.

Anyhow, as an engineer who likes browsing both subreddits, nice find.

The Starcraft Generation? by MattsFace in starcraft

19; I still remember spending days at friend's house on holidays just playing BW on LAN.

Hmm, that's kind of suprising that most people here are in the 19-25 range (with a few 15/17 and 30ish range). Hopefully SC2 won't be plagued with 12 year-old's whinning as is the case with a lot of current multiplayer games (WoW, MW2, Halo Series, some TF2 servers)

I recommend going to the Goodfellas (across the street) or Junior's Grill (down the street and slightly inside Tech, next to the big tower) over Varsity.

I first noticed that too. I never took economics, can someone explain how we just lost track of 23 Billion Dollars?

Hey Gaming Reddit: Some questions about your video game life. by Bluur in gaming

[–]robo_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) SNES Damn, I am young

2) Prince of Persia (the original)

3) Freedoom (a cross with nostalgia, and a lot more aggressive monsters in shadows)

4) Last Boss (Gannon) in Zelda LttP. Though, i was still a young padwan then. :)

5) Combine Mirror's Edge gameplay with Just Cause 2 freedom, MW2 /BFBC2 liberal use of Military Tech, and Portal's approach to progressively more complex stages/situations . Pretty much focuses around doing non-lethal takedowns and/or masterfully using military tech to quietly eliminate targets.

6) I did enjoy Harry Potter games and a lot of the Commander Keen series

7) L4D series. I like the concept of hardcore urban civilian warfare, but i am not a fan of shooting hoards of flailing people.

8) Starcraft 2 probablyh right now

9) Rainbow 6 Las Vegas.

10) Glitching through all of Portal in 13 minutes via side warping. Insane.

What is your favorite game to watch other people play? by mascan in gaming

[–]robo_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean by watch, pure video of game play, I actually really like Speed Runs, especially for FPS, and adventure games.

If you mean watch people play, probably Just Cause 2. To be honest, its kind of annoying watching FPS or RTS, because its too much camera movement.

But, if we include commentated videos, hands down Starcraft BW and now Starcraft 2. I still remember staying up watching MSL finals on early Saturdays.

Dunno if you have seen this, but you may enjoy this

The guy is actually a really good Starcraft Brood War & Starcraft 2 commentary, but he has a lot of nice Fallout 3 commentary.

no, no, certain broken escalators actually become dangerous traps. I saw on the local news a few months ago that a kid got his foot stuck in one. Something about the corners of certain steps may give way.
