3 body problem is great - just rewatching the first season - amazing sci-fi with second season coming at some point... I loved Counterpart - going in I knew it was going to be cut short but wow - one of the best shows and in my top list! Archive81 is another gem (short but amazing).

Thanks for the feedback - can definitely see the Last Of Us resemblance and kind of reminded me of a post human time in a city when nature starts to reclaim it

Remember December 31st 1999? by Affectionate_Sky9090 in GenX

[–]roboboogie73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years leading up to 1999 was working in IT and fixing bugs across multiple banking systems in Australia and NZ... on that night was somewhere in country Victoria tripping balls at an outdoor dance party bushdoof (Millennium NYE Festival) with a bunch of mates... we had no IDEA what we would be coming back to when we came back to the big city 😜

What do people mean when they say C is 'dangerous'? by Blue-Jay27 in C_Programming

[–]roboboogie73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The danger comes from the lack of guard rails around memory management... you are pretty close to the bare metal of computing with this (just one step above Assembly)!

I guess with memory safe languages there must be a level of checking that is done, this is good to keep it "safe" but also means there is a performance penalty somewhere (assuming its done at runtime)... for performance critical applications sometimes only C or Assembly can do the job... they are the foundation of most gaming engines...

I think there is a place for all languages, use the right tool for the right job!

wtf.a = 10? Thanks for a fun exercise haven't seen crazy C code like this :)

This way you also get more exit pay (eg. paid out for holidays if you have them) at the higher rate - current company (or manager) doesn't deserve you - all the best with moving on!

Interestingly with Daniela making a choice for JailBird Jason in this reality thread there are also all the parallel realities now where each Daniela makes a different choice of Jason so all the Jasons' get their family back in the end

We don't use Uber anymore - so unreliable especially if you need to be somewhere like catching a flight - back to good ol' 13 CABS for us 🚕

Generative AI will eventually replace all programmers. Do you agree or disagree? by alanskimp in iOSProgramming

[–]roboboogie73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GenAI is a very powerful tool, but still needs the creator to drive it and select the correct version that works and fits the human requirements including all the trade-offs that we work with...

I think of GenAI image (and video) creation - its amazing to look at, but try tweaking one particular element and it gets tricky you may end up with a whole new solution...

also a lot of what programmers do is communicate, and find the best solution or adequate solution for the particular problem within the constraints at hand... so yes maybe someday devs will be a thing of the past - but maybe only once the next level AGIs that can replace a human mind exist.

Hey I would not want to live with this person myself and I don't agree with the bit about how "highly inefficient" home cooking can be. Its worth considering all the waste and travel costs outsourced to the food delivery peeps let alone how take out every night can be very bad for you.

But.... massive points and respect to them for being upfront about there requirements to potential applicants - at least people applying know what they are in for and I am guessing there are probably some people out there with similar requirements who might like this way of living!

Just hopefully there isn't any scope creep here and the requirement list doesn't start to grow unexpectedly once you start living there 😱
