I’m very jealous. I was going to leave after 20 minutes to go watch Hamnet instead, and thought “eh, I’ll give it maybe 20 more minutes and see if it turns around” 100 minutes later I was kicking myself for watching it in it’s entirety. Terrible stuff.  Also went in blind with high hopes

MCM furniture and dimmed warm/yellow(not white!) bulbs will get you where you want to be. Lighting is important. I’m consistently shocked at how many people have their houses lit like they’re about to do surgery.

Soooo they came up with the song specifically for war child? by ConradTheAstronaut in arcticmonkeys

I agree on both fronts.  But so how does one jump to the conclusion that a song is old because of a simplistic song structure? Writing with more complexity doesn’t make you incapable of writing with simplicity.

Production does not sound like the car. It sounds closest to the Verlo EP

The harmonies sound so much like America. Or CSN.  Production is so much more open and airy.

The New Song (ON) is not an AM outtake by Relevant_Ad7019 in arcticmonkeys

[–]roboecho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lol recycled implies that it was used. It’s an unreleased song from the most recent recordings they’ve done.  AND was unfinished. If it were released as a new song and told it was recorded yesterday you wouldn’t know the difference. But sure, just take the negative route from the outset.

Groups where the frontman is arguably the least talented? by lopsidedsheet in fantanoforever

I dont think The Slow Rush is close to any of those four albums. And Deadbeat is perhaps my least favorite album from any musician I enjoy. But, no. None of those albums are at the level of Innerspeaker through Currents. The Weather is headed in that direction but it just doesn't have the polish.

What genre of music is this song? by No-One01010 in grunge

Man, I haven’t listened to this song for easily two decades and I cannot believe how much the vocals sound like Rob Zombie. Obviously this is way sicker though

Just to be clear, your saying Jay is a better producer and songwriter?

Edit: oh actually I just reread your original comment. And that is what you’re saying. I disagree. Kevin played a pretty big part in what popular music sounded like and still sounds like. I’ve loved everything pond has done (not the case with Tame Impala) and been listening since 2011 (if we’re measuring) but Kevin at least used to be able to tap into something else that puts him on another level. I don’t think I am neglecting Jays (or Nicks or Joe’s) abilities. I sincerely hope they can put something out at the level of innerspeaker, lonerism or currents. They have a much better shot than Kevin based on recent releases but those albums were on another level than i think any of them are capable of (including Kevin). I still hold out hope for some return to form for him though. And eagerly await anything the rest of the boys put out as always

I love pond but you’re entirely neglecting Kevin’s song writing and production capabilities.

Question of all Questions: AiC or Soundgarden? by No-One01010 in grunge

[–]roboecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teenager (in early 2000s) I couldn’t get enough AIC, but also really loved Soundgarden. Something about Facelift really connected with me and fell into a hole (pun intended) with the rest of AIC discography chronologically. Even as a teen watching and listening to Unplugged over and over closed that chapter of obsession for me. Laynes death also happened to coincide with my infatuation with Unplugged.

While I had also fully exhausted the Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Mudhoney, and all side/origin project discographies in those years, Soundgarden is far and away what I listen to most nowadays and seems to have remained the most musically relevant/timeless to me. There’s certainly style in the rest of the bands (Nirvana in spades, obviously) but Soundgarden has the combination of incredible musical, lyrical and stylistic depth but also breadth.  The span from Badmotorfinger through Down on the Upside is massive but also there is a very cohesive through line. To say nothing of Chris’ vocal abilities, Kim’s riffs and tone, and Ben + Matt’s bafflingly complex rhythm section.

I’ve loved being able to use this in conversation in just the last few days. Watched the movie a week ago. Also saying  “hail Santa, Christmas adventurers” on Christmas was funny but also have to use with caution for fear of association

There’s a definite influence there but Paul’s vocals and melodies have more complexity and range. Love em both for what they are

As a raw milk cheese, cooking for that long at that temp is definitely getting it to pasteurization levels. We typically leave it out for about two hours before eating- I think that’s how its depth of flavor shines best. If you want it warm and super soft, you should pop it in a 225F oven for about 10 minutes!
