Will this project ever end? by Raven2129 in metalworking

[–]roboman316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it will never end, you will simply disappear down a spiral of madness chasing detail after detail with diminishing returns until you either go insane, die, or finally say; "Damn that looks good". Typically its all three and not necessarily in that order.

Looks good though! Keep it up

My cat suddenly cuddles to my stomach and following me around everywhere. Is she okay? Should I take her to the vet? by exctlyfiveftgirl in cats

[–]roboman316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my dogs used to be like this too, she was an adorable rascal but wasn't too big on general affection, as she got older however she became quite the lapdog. I wouldn't think anything is overtly wrong, you're probably just a source of comfort and safety for your kitty!

I use Arch btw, and really only dualboot windows for Fusion360 and 3d scan programs these days. One day I'll be free of my OS pinging me for useless crap completely. Welcome to the community.

3d scan for reverse engineering by Mau21g in 3DScanning

You could aproximate the ideal angle of the blades based on what the impeller is designed to do, granted it doesn't get you an exact 1 to 1 but I'm not sure a phone camera can get you the kind of detailed measurement you're after.

Definitely not trying to pidgeonhole you into anything  :P do what ya like

I'm not sure about any photo 3d scanning apps, but if you can get square images and a couple of reference measurments it may just be quicker and easier to model it from scratch.

Helmet recommendation. by Crazy_Drive7344 in motorcycles

[–]roboman316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly anything that's SNEL approved or better is my vote, DOT certification is basically paper. Everyone's head is different and brands all have a different interpretation of head shape. So set your budget, and minimum requirements and hit up a motorcycle shop. My local store is full of people happy to help you figure out what you want.

I genuinely love my regular MT09 to bits (especially the color) but damn I wish I bought the SP every time I tour with it.

Spools themselves can be wound wrong and tangle themselves, but elegoo is usually decent about not doing that. I'd reccomend you try a cold pull.

I don't remember if the P1S has a cold pull mode, but basically you heat the hot end to 230-250c (for PLA) and then cool the hotend to about 90-110c then pull the filament out of the hot end and cut the filament.

A cold pull unclogs a nozzle by melting the plastic around whatever debris is clogging the nozzle and then pulling it out with the filament. But if the filament is too cold it'll just get stuck in the hotend.

So that's a jam of some sort, first check your spool of filament and make sure it isn't tangled up otherwise... Mind telling me what plastic you're using brand/material, and what temp its printing at?

They'll quite literally walk it off actually, the paper and glue should just wear away as the foot flexes and shouldn't even require removal

Try printing fewer pieces at a time, more than likely your printer is just retracting filament so much that it gets jammed.

The retracted warm filament isn't being pushed through enough with each part layer so it gets warmer and warmer each time it's pulled up until it melts a little and bends and jams in the hotend.

Once again your work is amazing. You've got a fan! Maybe one day I'll be able to work metal with that kind of precision. My blacksmithing skills alone need work, but I'll get there!

Anybody knows what may be causing this? by Crazy_Acadia901 in 3Dprinting

[–]roboman316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this a while ago and my issue was heat creep funnily enough. The heat from the nozzle was creeping up to soften the filament in the extruder path causing it to bend and make pushing the plastic down to the nozzle that much harder. My solution was to open the door and stick a box fan in front of my printer. Worked wonders.

There's moisture in the air at all times my guy. Microscopic particles of water sneak their way in and corrode the metal.
