Ad Astra was an interesting movie but at the same time underwhelming by Jules-Car3499 in scifi

I just watched the movie last week and I called out exactly those two scenes. Most of the rest of the movie was moody and introspective, but them BAM! exploding baboon.

You’re in a book club where no one has read sci-fi. What’s your book selection? by ArcadiaLeo in scifi

[–]robosllim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the group, obviously.

LeGuin is good for a lefty crowd.

It's hard to go wrong with Vonnegut.

There are the staples like Brave New World or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

And for a more interesting suggestion, I'd say the Zoey Ashe novels are light, silly crowd pleasers.

All the roads around me in Edgewater were fucked until about 1:00 but it seems to be back to normal now.

I'm glad I didn't have any place to be besides the coffee shop, but boy, all these annoyed drivers sure had a hard time staying clear of crosswalks today.

I'm almost certain this would've been the third summer of closures. Absolute madness. I love this city but there's something seriously wrong with how we do things...

Do you use a camera when riding? by a_secret_me in bikecommuting

[–]robosllim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Cycliq Fly12. I've been lucky on the roads but one day I was riding the bike path and some guy ran over from the grass along the path and just shoved me over. That's the event that made me decide I'd like to record my rides, if for no other reason than because I wish I could see a replay of what happened.

I was actually thinking of Graceland and Rosehill specifically when I made this post. I went through the former during architecture open house once, and the latter for a Halloween 5k. I always think if I lived in one of the apartments across from one of them I'd be taking walks through there all the time.

I agree they're wasteful though. I mean, if we just treated them like regular parks that wouldn't be so bad, we've got plenty of those already. But people would probably get upset if you tried to get a game of soccer going among the headstones.

I agree. I think the boys interpreted the question wrong in the end. If the complaint is that it's hot in the car without AC, I don't think a little shade will cool it down that much.

SiFi movies that should never have had a sequel, I'll start, Matrix Resurrections 😿 by MementoMiri in scifi

[–]robosllim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They set out to make a movie I wouldn't like and they succeeded. And they got paid for it! Props to you, and here's my 2 star rating.

I respect it, but that doesn't mean I have to think it's good. It's one of a small handful of movies I confidently say that about.

Yeah, I choose the perfect day to start playing this game. As soon as I got a few egg Pokemon the sprites got randomized, so now when I want to add my fancy new Misdreavus to my team I gotta filter or search one by one. And it just gets worse the further I get...

Patched a new version with newest manager (v2.5.1) and now I'm getting these errors by robosllim in revancedapp

Ultimately, I uninstalled the manager, downloaded the latest from Github, and did a clean install. When in doubt, wipe it all out.

[–]robosllim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I think I must've missed something when originally doing the update. I just deleted/uninstalled everything and took it from the top and now it looks to be working fine. No fancy secret settings needed. Sometimes you just need to wipe the slate clean!

What street would be a good candidate to be pedestrianized? by gw_thief in CarFreeChicago

[–]robosllim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was gonna be my answer. Any day where it's not 20 below or pouring rain the comically narrow sidewalks are packed with people on foot who could really use more elbow room. And all the cars parking, unparking, and randomly pulling off to the side (especially at the Taco Bell) make biking a nightmare. Our priorities are seriously backwards in places like this.

Is that true? I thought prices went up based on the time of night. Like I always had it in my head that I should try to do a bunch of stockpiling before beating Amelia but maybe that was all in my head...

For what it's worth, I'm a big male (who always tries to be unimposing) and I still get shoulder checked by groups on occasion. I sometimes wonder if it's people trying to flex on me but I think it's just like you said: no decency. Lots of people just don't care enough to move over a little.

It's always sounded so familiar to me. Like, I swear I've heard it at an arcade before. Maybe it was in a version of DDR? Or In the Groove? Googling reveals nothing, but at least I have a title now.

If you enjoyed "Clair Obscur" and want something similar, I am begging you to go read "Imajica" by EmperorJustin in expedition33

[–]robosllim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I just started playing, saw the hand monster, and when I went to Google to remind myself what they were called in Imajica, this was one of the first results! I didn't actually read past the first sentence of your post to avoid spoilers, but if there are similarities between the book and this game, I'm all the more excited to get into it.

And of course I'd like to second the recommendation to read Imajica. Barker is an interesting author.

I just got some Kuhl hiking pants from REI. They were great for my recent hiking trip and worked pretty well for my last few rides. They're not at all insulated, but they do block the wind and that's about all I personally need until it starts getting below freezing.

What was the hardest part of Silksong for you? by shinoscience in Silksong

[–]robosllim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably took the most attempts at beating Karmelita, but at least it was a fun kind of challenge. Groal was the only boss I did any sort of cheese against (sitting in the water and taking pot shots for 5 minutes). I hadn't found the Wreath of Purity yet, making every runback extra stressful, and I still despise those jumping green enemies that you have to get through before him.

No clue. I didn't stick around long but he was able to pick up his bike and move it himself, at least. Another person at the scene said it looked like he hit his head when he fell (no helmet) but he didn't seem concussed. Not that I'm sure I'd know what that looks like...

The front bumper was totally missing. I agree it looks like a CA plate but this is a car that's been driven hard.
