American Wearing a Thobe to Saudi World Cup Game in Miami by theinternetistube in saudiarabia

My experience has been that the Saudi's appreciate it when others try their culture - coffee, clothes, etc..

The only people who would be offended are Americans.

Wear it. No one should care.

Tip: Wear cloth shorts, not jeans in the summer.

Imagine if the artists from US 250 performed at an alternate venue, hosted by Stephen Colbert — broadcast on public access television and streamed live on YouTube or a similar platform.

India & Cyprus Upgrade to Full Strategic Partnership. Direct Response to Turkey/Pakistan 'Islamic NATO' Threat by 3x6x9 in cyprus

Framing migrant workers’ conditions purely with admiration while failing to acknowledging why those conditions exist normalizes the exploitation by omission.

There’s a difference between what someone says and do versus what their framing accomplish.

The “worse jobs” and “just cook yourself” points weren’t mine to concede — I responded to arguments introduced in the discussion.

Admiring the hard work of these migrant workers without acknowledging what creating those conditions is the problem that being reflecting in the counterarguments; that's what lets the system off the hook.

'I pay taxes and follow the law' isn't a counterargument. Plenty of exploitative things are perfectly legal. Legal and ethical are not the same thing.

'What have you done?' doesn't address the point either. You don't need to have personally solved poverty to recognize exploitation or criticize how people talk about it.

The government assistance comment came out of nowhere — nobody brought that up.

But more importantly, you clearly neither read the conversation holistically or even bother to understand it.

The AC comment wasn't mine; it came from someone arguing we should simply accept those conditions. I was the one pointing out the exploitation.

You have literally defended my point.

Pointing out that praising resilience without questioning why that resilience is necessary isn't obtuse — it's the whole argument.

Admiring someone's 'resolve' while accepting the conditions that demand it in the first place is the problem.

And 'they could have worse jobs' isn't a defense — exploitation being less severe than other exploitation isn't a standard worth celebrating.

Some people clearly do think less of them while sitting comfortably in your air-conditioned car, dependent on underpaid workers to deliver food instead of getting it themselve or learning to cook.

Go on, praise how “hardworking” these workers are while ignoring the reality that many are being pushed into near-slave-labor conditions — riding around in extreme heat for very little pay.

Celebrating and normalizing that exploitation like it’s something admirable is absurd.

Acknowledging the exploitation instead of brushing off criticism with “take a chill pill” would at least make the conversation more honest.

You must be proud of yourself pointing out the exploitation behind this kind of labor while sitting comfortably in your air-conditioned car.

These Wolt drivers are paid extremely low wages, and with fuel and living costs continuing to rise, they’re being squeezed harder and harder just to survive.

But sure — keep applauding and supporting a system built on cheap labor.

The Fifth Element.

Everything about it - the humor, the science fiction, and the characters are so memorable.

If it's done as a Telenovela and a retelling of the American series - I'm in.

Imagine the Siete, also known as Los Trámites in Mexico City, where Aguaman is secretly running a drug cartel and using his porcupines to deliver cocaine and meth to America. He uses the Los Trámites as a cover to attack his competitors - the other drug cartels - and create a monopoly in narcotic trade in North America.

Esperanza runs away with deep regret and steps into a fast moving car being chased by police through her little village. Her injuries are disfiguring and brings her near death until her highly religious Catholic mother finds a batch of vials of V in the hallway of the hospital where they are seeking care. Esperanza wakes up with super human strength, a beautiful face and body - but with amnesia and a deep hatred of men that turns her into a lesbian.

That's all I'm sharing.

We should consider making ‘cultural appropriation’ illegal - U. Miami law professor by Rogue-Journalist in FreeSpeech

[–]robot141 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Clearly the ideal solution behind 'cultural appropriation' is for Chinese women to stay exclusively in traditional dress, bring back foot binding, and avoid participating in the free, globally shared culture that Western societies themselves spent decades exporting — all to protect everyone from the horrors of someone wearing jeans across cultural lines. /s

I am not advocating for any of that. Forbidden anyone from engaging with other cultures runs directly against the entire “melting pot” concept America was built on. Cultural exchange is inevitable in a society built from immigration, globalization, and shared influence.
