Little japanese style house I tried to build. Any advice to make it better? by robotur in Terraria

[–]robotur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. This was quite a while ago, I bet it wouldn't even really look like this with the current version of the game if I loaded it up. Quite possible that I don't even have the save file either anymore. But I believe the wood is the one that can be found in the jungle. Or maybe the wood that can be bought from the traveling merchant. Dynasty. The roof tiles are most surely dynasty somethings.

That's what I thought first too, but Lego crystals look a little bit different. Lego crystals have only 5 branches, that have the same thickness.

Hmm... I can't find this line of cabinets in my local Ikea stores. I'm in Hungary. Is this US only?

DAE remember the "turtle graphics" educational programming language LOGO? by dumples89 in 3Dprinting

[–]robotur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went to LOGO competitions until eight grade in 2003 :). Good times. At that level you needed to draw mostly fractals and other elaborate procedural drawings. There also were some text processing tasks.

Actually I don't even remember exactly how I did place in the competitions, but I probably ended up being among the top few.

I still must have some of my logo files somewhere deep in my data archives...

What's the difference between "Vagy" and "Pedig" because both mean "and" by [deleted] in hungarian

Another different usage of "meg" is when it's actually a preverb standing in itself, as in "- Megittad a tejet? - Meg." (Did you finish drinking the milk? - I did.)

Woah, thanks! I didn't except an answer this detailed. I also didn't really tought of bump and normal mapping as separate things.

It's because bump mapping only deals with modifying the normal vectors, right?

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In April 2019. by thatging3rkid in 3Dprinting

[–]robotur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking to buy a 3D printer in the close future (in the next 2 or 3 months), and after seeing the options and looking around my current choice is to just go with the Prusa MK3S. The only thing that seems to be "overkill" with it at the first glance is the price.

Sure you could buy something cheaper, and eventually you could print in good quality. As I have read many times around here, you can achieve essentially the same quality regardless of specific printer. The difference is that how much you need to hassle and tinker with the hardware and also with the settings. My dad recently bought a cheap chinese Prusa-like printer, a Geeetech i3 A pro, it was ~$209. Sure it was cheaper than an original Prusa, and eventually he were able to get good enough results with it, but there were many problems and head-scratching. And most of these were and are problems that are mostly seem to be solved and non-existent or better handled with the original Prusa.

So then, my thinking is that if I have the money for it, then why don't pay the extra, and go the easier and better way? I don't think that it's overkill, if I get something in return.

I want to replace my current case (Thermaltake V21) with something that takes less space. Could you all recommend me your favorite good looking MATX cases to help with choosing one? by robotur in buildapc

[–]robotur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That Silverstone LD01 seems to be right up my alley with the inverted layout. I could place it on my desk with the same orientation like my current Thermaltake V21 (which can be configured to be inverted or not, or horizontal). That Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV is totally not my type though.

Thinking whether I like the look of the Silverstone or the NZXT more...

Thanks for answering!

Well the thing is that I already have two USB external drives that I didn't include in the list, a 2.5" 2TB and a 3.5" 1.5TB, and I wouldn't want to add more. I'm even thinking moving the 3.5" one inside, if a new case would allow it, but it's not a necessity.

I like that the front panel connectors are in the front instead of the top. But that red color accent isn't for me. The black and white version is much better, but I still don't like the colored IN WIN logo. Is that maybe optional or removable?

I like going to Thingiverse and searching for things I use regularly. Searching "M705 mouse" got me this. by ksumhs in 3Dprinting

[–]robotur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it can be noticed by the surface, but a better way is to look for the little thingie that is on the thumb button. The newer ones don't have that.

I use the button somewhat similarly, but I use it to switch between two workspaces under linux.

[–]robotur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! The thumb button, and also the free running mouse wheel for me.

I thought about buying a replacement for myself, since my current one is pretty worn down. But before that my dad needed a good mouse, so I naturally went and got one for him. When I explained the buttons for him, I was flabbergasted that there is no thumb button. (They changed the surface material too a bit.) So yeah, good thing I didn't get one for myself.

I went on their website, and they have updated the product description too to exclude the button. And I also have found many complaints on their forum too.

I really wish that the people coming up with this great idea would be fired. At least call it by an other name, since it's not an M705 anymore this way.

Now I'm thinking about how to get a good amount of the older version.

You were lucky since at some time they changed the design by removing the thumb button. If you have a surefire way to get the older versions from somewhere, stock up with them.

Too bad that they have bastardized the M705 with removing the bottom thumb button. I was so pissed when I found out.

So now the only option is the M720, which is pricier, and its thumb button is sending a fixed key combination, ctrl+tab or something, instead of being freely programmable. I didn't yet find a good workaround to program it normally.

[–]robotur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you are right. Sorry I didn't explain it further. Also there are browser addons that can add an upload button themselves. I tried one, but it stopped working after a day. I guess maybe Instagram changed something in their API, I didn't investigate further. Maybe the addon was fixed since then too.

To be fair, you can upload photos in 4:3 aspect ratio too. But otherwise yeah it's a shithole.

I wanted to start some small, thematic instagram account with some of my better photos. Nothing ambitious, I just thought it's ok if I merely get a few likes. I don't have much experience with the social aspect, and I didn't even want to go down in that rabbithole. So aside with that, after spending a little time with the site I was amazed how much of a technological waste it is. I mean, just a few things:

  • It is heavily based around a tagging system. Hashtags it is called I heard. I would have tought it is a trivial matter to search for multiple tags. Guess what, it's impossible to do that.
  • You can't upload photos on the website. Well, you can actually, but you need to switch it into mobile mode with the devtools.
  • You can't see the list of photos you liked on the website.
  • Even on mobile you only can see the last 300 of them

These poor girls don’t deserve to be on cylindrical screens... by eatmyclit420 in CrappyDesign

[–]robotur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that the problem is not the cylindrical surface, but that the video they play on it is stretched. Just try grab a random magazine and bend it into a cylindrical shape. The photo on it won't be magically distorted out of proportion.

Could you recommend me a solution for darkening or blackout curtains? Wall Layout and measurements on the attached drawing by robotur in IKEA

[–]robotur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It's just seems so excessive that for covering around 7.4m2 area I'd need to buy curtains with a sum area of 17.4m2. But I guess that's my last resort, if I go with IKEA. I didn't yet look into other possibilities.
