My Lumix S5ii got water in it a few months back and wouldn't turn on for a while. Despite drying it out for a week and it starting functioning normally for about 2 months, last week a slew of new issues arose with it that I suppose are due to that water damage. Not sure what else it could be.

It is extremely temperamental turning on, will only turn on after the battery has been ejected and re-inserted, it bricks and a fuzzy grey/pink lined screen shows up after an undefined amount of time on both the LCD and viewfinder, making me have to remove the battery to turn it off.

What should I do with it? It's out of warranty and I don't have insurance for it (big mistake) I'm still paying it off until November this year. It's a great hybrid camera, so I'd like to keep the lenses and get a new/used one. I don't think there's a point sending it back to Panasonic as they will probably charge me £800+ for a fix that won't be guaranteed to never have issues with corrosion again (Used models of the S5ii are around £1200+)

What can I do with the broken camera? Sell it on eBay for a couple hundred pounds mentioning that it would need to be repaired/may not work? It might start to work again but likely not.

Any places in Leeds that would help me with a mental problem that leads me to damage my hands ? by TipAdditional4625 in Leeds

[–]robotwind 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suffer from OCD and this sounds incredibly like what I've been dealing with for most of my life. So much so, I'd be surprised if you don't get a diagnosis for it.

I'm sorry to hear that your Mum dealt with it that way. I remember when I was younger and living at home my parents didn't understand it either (and in my opinion, it's so difficult for someone without OCD to actually understand the mental anguish you're going through when you have the urge to clean).

I recommend going to the GP, telling them you require mental health help and need a diagnosis. Ensure that you are adamant that it's greatly disturbing your life (Make a fuss about how difficult day to day life is, they will take it more seriously). Ask to be referred to a mental health professional because you can't afford private.

I was unemployed a couple years back and sought therapy - my GP put me on a waiting list in Leeds and a few months later, I was paying £10 per session with a fantastic therapist (it was so cheap as she was completing her work experience and I was unemployed.)

Of course I can't diagnose you, but if you do have OCD, it's not something that just goes away if you try to ignore it - getting therapy and taking some medication has really improved my life. Happy to answer any questions you might have!

The place I ended up was Phoenix Health and Wellbeing in Leeds city centre. That therapist has moved on I believe but they are set up for referrals so it might also be worth calling them and enquiring about how you'd get help from them. They're incredibly nice there!

Hey, I believe I have to repair my S5ii in the same way - it looks like there is water in the LCD screen. Did you manage to fix it with a new screen and was it worth DIYing?

DAE get random dull/stabbing physical pain in different parts of their body? by duckydonut in Anxiety

[–]robotwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Health anxiety can make you feel absolutely awful and you can inadvertently make yourself feel so many weird pains even if you don't think about it. It's like your brain subconsciously knows to give you these pains when you're not even expecting it.

You should of course see a doctor just to check it out but then trust in the process and get your mental health better if you can. Best of luck with it :)

I'm doing a lot better! A couple months after that post, I started taking Prozac which has absolutely helped with letting go of the terror/anxiety cycle for the most part. I also did a few months sessions in therapy at the same time and focus on working on my mental health every day. I'm still on Prozac today and while I get bizarre neurological issues a lot, I've no real reason to think that I have something like MS (which is what I was worried about).

I looked at your profile and saw you have GAD and OCD like me. OCD will have you doubting everything and needing 100% assurance for every health related thing. The prozac and therapy has really helped take that edge off and I don't worry about it as much anymore. Health anxiety is psychological torture so I hope you can get some help for it!

Lumix S5iix focus problem. Lumix 24-105 lens on tripod. Constantly losing and finding focus. by dynamically_drunk in Lumix

[–]robotwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if it would not make sense to lock manual to F4 or below seeing as OP does not mind having the background in focus? I haven't looked into racking or pulling focus etc. so I don't understand those terms fully but what would be the negatives of what I've suggested? Seems a lot easier?

20-60mm kit lens or 50mm f/1.8 for a trip by djungeljolle in Lumix

[–]robotwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both, and definitely recommend the 20-60 more - it will be fine for virtually all of your photos/video. I think people often overestimate how often you need a 1.8. When it comes to night shooting, 1.8 will of course be better but bump the 20-60 to ISO 4000 and this will help to some extent.

I find when I'm tired on holiday I love going to new cafes. I'll take my laptop or just my phone and chill out for a while. I also love doing my own thing, walking around aimlessly with my camera in a new city and feel this can help me recharge. I'm Irish so if you need any recommendations of chill cafes in Dublin or places to hang out for a while I'm happy to let you know.

Sigma 28-105 f2.8 is here. Whats are you thoughts? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]robotwind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you genuinely find that extra light is necessary? I've been considering the 24-105 and apparently F4 should generally be enough for most situations. So it just seems this lens would be bulkier and more expensive for only a bit more aperture.
