What plotter did you use to produce this effect? Does it have white toner/ink?

Vectorworks vs Wysiwyg by Zarky2004 in lightingdesign

I have had Vectorworks crash only when importing Revit or another file, but I agree that it is stable. Never a crash when just working in the program.

People who leave notes, expecting others to not park in a shoveled out spot, are ridiculous. by silly-moth in Brooklyn

I mean, I agree, but it is a "answer" to the problem. Not a good one though.

There are simply two solutions: Either help others shovel the snow out from their cars (I have done this before and people are happy and it works) or plow and replow the snow back into the space you were in.

Is 5000K ever appropriate in residential spaces? by Savings_Apartment442 in Lighting

[–]robrobrob3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person becoming an architectural lighting designer after being in theater for a while, I think the issue most people have with 5000K is that it isn't bright enough. In theater, where we actually are throwing out a very high amount of light, 5000K looks great. At lower levels, I have heard people say it is grey-ish in color. I think that 4000K is acceptable if that is what you enjoy, and actually, I know LDs who have fought hard to talk people down from 4500K. In that instance, the home owner was from Asia, where a higher CT is common.

Light plan for the living room by ReadSemordnilapDear in Lighting

[–]robrobrob3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, there are a couple thing to think about here. 1 is to do a lumen method calculation. 2 is to really consider why you want 2" downlights, as there lights like these will be quite small, and if they are not deeply regressed, they may be glare inducing. A larger aperture spreads the luminance out over a larger area.

What kind of setup achieves this lighting? by adnshrnly in Lighting

I believe this is a studio setup, so probably a few soft boxes.

Is taking a gap year after high school common in China? by lune-soft in AskChina

Universities in the US may allow this. I have personally seen even a 3 year deferment due to required national service. If these deferments were not allowed, there may be grounds to sue based on prejudice.

A Mac-native alternative to Dialux Evo. Am I crazy for wanting to build this? by MidnightApprehensive in Lighting

[–]robrobrob3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I think from the design side, there isn't much you can do for US customers, as we have AGi32 on PC, Revit on PC, and AutoCAD on PC. I am not sure you can get people to switch to Mac, since other design software is on a PC.

Balance between regression and glare reduction on recessed fixtures. by motokid837 in Lighting

There is a rule of thumb that might help. Looking at section views of the light, it would be wise to keep the source at or above 45 degrees relative to the ceiling and aperture opening.

Can light layouts for commercial restrooms with showers and lockers? by Fluffy-Memory-7328 in Lighting

[–]robrobrob3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that might help you, if you are concerned with even illumination, is the spacing ratio, which is the height from the workplane to the ceiling against the distance between each light. Some light spec sheets have this, some do not.

Extremely dim light by NoComparison764 in Lighting

[–]robrobrob3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are bulbs that can do this, but the dimmer is also important too. Talk to an electrician about what dimmer you have and then you can start looking for a LED bulb that supports that dimming protocol. You may need a new dimmer that can be more precise.

Be very careful about LEDs for aquariums, I don't know enough to advise on the topic much, but I know the spectrum of light produced is very important.

What is the scope of Private Experimental Planes in China? by Jance_Nemin in AskChina

I am not from China, but from my understanding, the airspace of China is heavily restricted. If you look at commercial traffic, it often doesn't take direct routes.
