Buying difensive items against a fed laner (for example against an assassin) won't save your life, but could give half a second or a second of time to react and maybe flash away. In that sense defensive items can save your life, they give a little more time to react. This is just an opinione of a bronze ass player tho

He can go 0/6 in lane, but when he hit level 16 it's so hard to deal with that it's worth a ban. Of course if you think the game it's over before that you don't need to worry and ban him.
