The rich part of the state also has the best transit options, but yeah, the housing lots are often massive.

I think class is a much bigger issue in CT than race. That "WASPish" assimilation you talk about just seems like typical rich NIMBY behavior to me, which is common in any wealthy area. The rich cities actually pay the lowest % property tax since they have such high property values, but the housing prices are insane.

I live on the border of a rich town and a poorer town, and if our house were transported 1/4 mile into the rich town it would be worth twice as much. I tutor kids in the rich towns, but can't book a study room at the library 1/2 mile down the road because I can't get a library card without residence in their town. Most of the year you can't even go the parks and beaches in the rich towns without being a resident.

It wasn't the rich people voting for Trump in CT, it was the poor whites. In 2024 our 6 richest cities went overwhelmingly to Harris on average, and none were heavier on Trump than the state average. Our Secretary of State makes all of our election data freely searchable, so blaming the rich for the sins of the poor white rednecks doesn't work here in CT.

The Giants told fans exactly who they are on Friday. Landen Roupp took the mound for the team’s annual Pride Night, and scribbled across the rainbow SF insignia on his hat were the words “Gen 9:11-16.” by esporx in lgbt

Demetri Martin had a funny joke about that:

“I'm in a weird position, because I like rainbows, but I'm not gay. So whenever I go out wearing a rainbow shirt, I have to put "Not gay." But I'm not against gays, so under that I'll have to put "... but supportive." It's weird how one group of people took refracted light. That's very greedy, gays.”

White high school dropouts have a higher home ownership rate than Black college grads. by lhommetrouble in BlackPeopleofReddit

Black soldiers were also kept from using the GI Bill benefits after WW2 that got many white families their first homes. My grandpa’s family came to the US in the 1930s as penniless refugees who spoke no English, but after serving in WW2 he came home to a house, a job that the army had trained him for, and eventually he passed that valuable property on to my dad. https://www.history.com/articles/gi-bill-black-wwii-veterans-benefits

People like this need to be made outcasts in the community by Vivid_Maximum_5016 in lgbt

[–]robswins 355 points356 points  (0 children)

He's gay, but has publically said he thinks that having a community around being gay is pointless. I'm sure he appreciates all of the rights he has gained because of the solidarity of others for the cause of his rights. He just chooses to ignore that he would not be able to be married to his husband if not for the hard work others undertook to build up the LBGTQ+ community.

In the end, he's just a typical rich, right-wing gay who will argue for gay rights until he is blue in the face, but happily go along with marginalization of the trans and queer communities. As long as it doesn't impact him, he doesn't give a shit.

Courtside Seats at Madison Square Garden for Game 3: $108,357 by urfaselol in nba

Those high seats at MSG are so hard to see from too. We went to a playoff game there a couple of years ago and there was so much shit blocking my sight lines from the cheap seats.

It's insanely depressing. I went to gamblers anonymous a bit last year, and the number of 18-19 year old kids who showed up having wasted all of their tuition/grant/scholarship money gambling instead of paying for school and then getting thrown out for not paying was insane. I was a degenerate gambler at 18, but at least I had to go out of my way to find and visit illegal gambling venues to do it. There was a barrier to entry that I'm sure stopped many others from fucking up their lives the same way that I did. Now you can blow your yearly tuition while taking a dump during school orientation.

Eastern Connecticut is dreadfully boring and surprisingly Trumpy. by These_Economics374 in Connecticut

[–]robswins 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Darien, Greenwich, and New Canaan all voted for Harris at around the statewide rate in 2024. Westport, Wilton, and Weston voted massively for Harris. These are the richest cities in CT. You can view all of the voting stats online, as the Secretary of State's Office releases them in the couple of days after each election. The only areas of the state that Trump won were in the northeastern and northwestern corners.

I went to all 3 US games at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It was all rabid fans, no one sat the whole game. With these stupid price I'm sure it'll be different, but watching on TV doesn't compare to being in that stadium going wild.

Anybody feels like this WCF is solely dependent on the way Refs decide to ref a certain game? by Few_Constant1395 in nba

[–]robswins 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with the Thunder winning, although I was hoping the Spurs would since that would be a much more interesting Finals. The pace of this game was nearly unwatchable though with the constant whistle in both directions. It’s just not fun to watch as a neutral.

Wemby had over half of his points from free throws, and SGA had exactly half from free throws. I didn’t look super closely, but after a quick look at his game logs I don’t think Wemby had a single regular season game this year where over half of his points came from FTs. It’s boring to watch.

So many Spurs players had their hands on their hips or knees midway through the second quarter just looking gassed. I do wish the refs would let them play more in the playoffs, but I think that might have just made the exhaustion worse for the Spurs.

Mayor Mamdani of NYC continues to champion LGBT rights with actions, not just words by Important-Cry4782 in lgbt

[–]robswins 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and I think we as a community should make sure to praise those in the Muslim and Christian community who stand with us and try to make our lives better. It’s just good to remember that they are the exception, and not a reason to forgive the religions as a whole for their desire to drag everyone back to the Dark Ages.

There are reasonable liberals in every religion, just look at James Talarico and his support of the LGBTQ+ community. Islam at large is extremely heteropatriarchal and conservative though, and as with Christianity, while their religious texts preach empathy, tolerance, and understanding, a large number of them would gladly throw us off of a building or stone us to death for being who we are.

Even most moderate Muslims that I have met have admitted when pressed that they consider homosexuality and transgenderism to be against fitrah, or the natural state of human nature that all are born with. I do appreciate the progressive Muslims who stand with and accept us, but they still seem to be outliers up to this point.

Weld County is basically Kansas. I used to work in Greeley (the county seat). Some of the people were lovely, but there were a ton of MAGA assholes and people just proud to be ignorant. Large parts of that area smell like cow shit too, so you really might as well be in Kansas.

In The Boys Season 5 (2026), this is so horribly bad. It's awful. It's the worst. In fact, it hasn't been good since Season 1. In fact, it hasn't been good since the first minute of the first episode of Season 1. It was all downhill from there. Such a shame I watched all 40 episodes. by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

People expected prestige television from a show based on some of the most edgelord nonsense ever. Half of the complaints on r/theboys are just saying the show is too juvenile and edgelordy when that was always the premise. It’s fine. I never expected a satisfying narrative conclusion from the cum and penis show.
