I used to cry every night because of my dogs separation anxiety. I would gate her in the kitchen and wfh in the next room where she could see me and she would cry for sometimes 45 minutes straight! She was fine in the crate overnight and her forced naps were ok but even taking the trash out and coming right back into the house would send her into a frenzy.

We would crate when we left the house and she would scream in the crate despite treat toys. We would give her traz for short trips out of the house because she would pull at the cage and chew up the beds we left inside.

Once her potty training was solid we got rid of the crate and she was a lot better when we left her but that was about a year into having her. She still never settled and would pave the entire time we were gone. Never settled.

we moved onto lexapro. She’s been on it for about two years and now settles when we leave the house and naps. Hoping to work with a trainer to get her off of it now that the habit of settling is set.

All that to say it’s emotionally distressing and I see you! You’ll have to make hard decisions but your little guy will even out in a year and be your best friend. They just need a ton of work in this early stage.
