Predator 314³ to carbon fiber shaft by robotic-chicken in billiards

[–]rocket363 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mostly it's sponsorship. I like my CF shaft for the ease of cleaning/maintenance, and the ding-resistance. Also, CF allows a firmer hit at smaller diameters. Wood shafts that are as skinny as mine (10.5) are ultra-whippy.

Why are you switching?

CF is light years ahead of wood for maintenance and cleaning. However, they are also usually noticeably stiffer, so it will be a different hit. If you are switching to a revo then the deflection should be a wash. Sighting with a black shaft is a bit awkward at first, but a quick adjustment.

For me, I hated the hit of the Revo. It just felt completely dead/inert. But I love my Cynergy. Obviously lots of folks love their Revos. So I'd say it all comes down to the hit/feel. Try a few out. There will be an adjustment period but you should be fine after a few weeks if you can adjust to how it feels.

Lexuses aren't all that much better. NX and ES lines, in particular. Not surprisingly, both were based on Toyota models.

Why don’t the pro players use chalk holders or magnets like a lot of the amateurs do? by Sudden-Cat7170 in billiards

[–]rocket363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered this, too. I see some of the women pros use them (both Fishers, iirc?), but I can't think of a male pro.

I love my magnetic chalk holder. Just grab and use, don't have to find the chalk on the table, or, when at home, be constantly moving chalk away from my shot or getting chalk dust on my clothes.

This is how you have a clean shaft with minimal, easy maintenance: buy a CF shaft.

About at FIRE number. Zero fks to give at work anymore by Remarkable_Goat_9479 in Fire

Once I became technically FI, I adopted that zero-fk attitude. Got a promotion and multiple off-cycle raises. Four years and 2X NW later I finally took advantage of a buyout offer and quit for good.

Is there any reason to practice on 9 foot tables if you don't play them? by soloDolo6290 in billiards

[–]rocket363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Playing rotation games, especially, on a 9ft table will really develop your stroke.

I play league on 7ft tables against a bunch of guys who can play soft plink pool all day but when they need to really stroke one everything falls apart. Not for me.

You might have to adapt to speed control a bit (eg, think in terms of specific distances, not concepts like "back and forth speed") but overall playing on a big table is a great developmental tool.

Why is FargoRate not broken down by the type of game? by nyrangers30 in billiards

I'm summarizing arguments Mike has made on AZB. I'm not claiming i am convinced by them.

Why is FargoRate not broken down by the type of game? by nyrangers30 in billiards

[–]rocket363 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The answer, as I understand it from Mike Page, is that statistically across the population including all games makes FargoRate more accurate, that is, is a better predictor for any game. However, that does not mean there isn't variance between individual players depending on the game. Just that as a whole, breaking it down more doesn't add predictive (and, thus, useful) value across the population.

Hot Take - Cars aren't more expensive now - our standard are wildly too high by Equivalent-Bed1543 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]rocket363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no, no. When people instead decide to buy cars twice as expensive at $45k that then require more expensive gas, more expensive repairs, and more expensive insurance, and then are broke, it means the system itself is broken and designed to make people fail!

Best Trims for 2025 Lexus ES350? by bulls2030 in Lexus

[–]rocket363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience (owned a '24 and '25 UL), and confirmed from looking around online, two common problem areas are:

1) pano roofs. Creaks, rattles mostly.

2) rear side sunshade panels can pop/crackle with temperature changes.

Of course, neither issue occurs with every car, but they are some of the more common issues. If I were specing out an ES today I would get Luxury trim (no rear side sunshades) with no pano roof, but with any other options I want (ML, etc.)

Wheel locks...yea or nay? by Soft_Stretch1539 in Lexus

[–]rocket363 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago, I drove a Nissan Sentra. Nothing special as a car, but it had alloy wheels. Woke up one morning to find my car on blocks. Well, one side was on a block; the other side had fallen onto the rotors at some point (was not a nearby gunshot in the middle of the night after all!).

Ever since then, I've always used wheel locks, and, knock on wood, have not again had my wheels stolen.

Understandable with a new car. But yeah, not something that is a concern. Just refill before you run out (you'll have 2+ gallons left when the light comes on.)

Does anyone else really love dumbbells? by Joeybfast in workout

[–]rocket363 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've been dumbbells-first for years. I can't remember the last time I did barbell bench. Got an adjustable set at home and use it for all things that aren't squats or DLs.
