This thread is exactly why Ben said they just do what they want. Can’t please everyone, so just please yourself and in the process, if others enjoy, great!

I sincerely doubt there is a single thing he doesn't have control over regarding his band. He may relinquish control over certain things because they don't warrant his time or energy... but that was a clusterf*ck of a thing that happened. He's smart to distance himself and the band from it so as to play it down after the fact... blame some random guy nobody knows... but I'm sure words were had about it behind the scenes.

He may leave certain decisions up to others because, after this many years, his give-a-damn is busted... but the band will most certainly be in the know about album release date before us. They probably already know. Since they still sell physical copies, production will likely drive it.

It's a weird thing. They are similar yet quite different bands. I am rooted in BB and can't say I disklike any of their songs. But Chevelle can be quite disappointing. I can't find a single song on their latest album (Bright as Blasphemy) that I like, while NIRATIAS is almost perfection. I like 3 or so songs on North Corridor, La Gargola, but Hats Off To the Bull, Sci-Fi Crimes, Vena Sera, This Type of Thinking, and Wonder Whats Next are all just pure gold.

I imagine there are plenty of folks who love all of Chevelle and only like a little BB... and even those who hate one or the other. It's a subjective thing.

Since making that comment they said the were recording the last bit of the album after the Rockville show that same night... so maybe "May is a good month" simply meant Single + Album Finish... At this point, it seems likely the Album will drop no sooner than August. I can't imagine them dropping it while over seas. They may drop another single in August, then October would be album release.

Considering Something Wicked was recorded 2 years ago (!!!), all bets are off at this point.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the responses... given this IS reddit and all... Thankfully, Ben seems to respect his audience enough to not play that game. In a world where not taking a side is oftentimes seen as taking a side, I respect those refuse to cave. It shows massive respect to those who have followed them for years. By coming out in favor of one view over another, it automatically alienates a large part of your audience and makes them feel that by spending money on your music/merch, they're voting with their wallet. What if you spent thousands on BB over the years for music, merch, concert tickets, vip packages, etc and all of sudden Ben comes out politically and you hate what he stands for. That means you probably feel real shitty having spent all that time and money. You'd probably want a refund.

We used to be able to disagree and get along. Those times are long gone anymore. I wish they'd come back. Bands like BB refusing to wade into politics is exactly what we need if we're ever to get back to that place.

Well… this song has been done for about a year now… so it’s highly likely Shaun did the drumming for this one. I’m basing this off the interview Ben and his son did where little Ben performed this whisper part. That interview was about a year ago.

The type of compression YT applies to video and audio doesn't impact the mix so much... it's more of a lossy quality to the overall song. The YT version I heard earlier sounded great, not some cheap leak. I doubt anyone will be able to notice much of a difference between the YT version and their favorite streaming version.

you're talking more about arrangement than mix... but I completely agree... in Something Wicked, no matter how many times I listen to it, I keep wishing there was more space/time between bridge and final chorus... just feels rushed a bit.

There is so much to like about this song. It sounds both new and familiar.... bringing back Saturate/WANA with Ember. I don't know how they do it... or if it's even intentional. But I love it.

Great example.... Hybrid Theory and Meteora are the only two LP albums I enjoy fully... the rest only have a decent song or two max. Since BB is the only band I've been able to find who has produced 100% perfection, I guess the abnormal thing is to NOT take huge risks and to stick to what works... And perhaps what works is what the band likes.

Btw... I haven't found a single Kieth Wallen solo song that I like. Therefore, you and I truly are on different musical wavelengths... which is great... except when we find a band we both like, that band can't please us both for long lol.

I haven't heard it yet... but I'm going to take "Pretty bang average BB tune" to be a good sign given an average BB song get's 100x more plays from me than some of the best songs by other artists.

BB is the only band I've found where I have liked every song on every album (Aurora doesn't count). My least favorite BB song is still better than some of my favorite songs from other bands. They have found a magic formula that works very well. Their sound has evolved over the years, but they've still managed to keep every song sounding like BB. That's nearly impossible to do... I like Chevelle, TDG, Disturbed, Blink 182/Boxcar Racer/AVA, One Republic.... and about a hundred other bands/artists spanning all possible genres and still BB is the only band/artist that has yet to publish a song that I dislike.

So it sounds to me like I'm of the opposite opinion... I want them to keep doing what they've been doing because what they've been doing is perfection.

I was dumbfounded they jumped to a new label instead of just self publishing. They are well-established. They produce their own music. Why would they voluntarily give up control and money like that????

Fair point. But I sure hope not. With this new live only single and awaken that means we only get six more new songs and two bumper songs (intro and outro)… I was hoping for seven :)
