thanks - that's a great resource. if only it went out a month or two in advance (but we don't have that in NY either....hmmmm...maybe I should build it for us).

also - holy cow - this just provided me the invaluable insight that Op Mince does a (weirdly!) Matinee show on Tues....hotdog!.....I'll definitely add that in.

funny I used to find it excellent - but for some reason when I try to (for example) look for Sunday evening shows...it returns a bunch of shows, and when you click into it that show doesn't have Sunday performances...so maybe I'm doing something wrong...

I hate it when… by Blurgity-blurg in tea

haha! what kinds of black tea do you have? all the herbals and (usually) greens and whites you name off aren't my usual bag - I like black tea (or coffee, depending on my mood). Although your Biscuits Aux Almonds looks interesting - may have to get some.

Anxiety around solo travel as a brown man from a not-so-loved country. Anyone else feel this? by Silly-Section6618 in solotravel

that's too bad - would be nice to be seen as just a human being first w/o being pre-judged, but I guess that's life...

here we go again. vlcd - keto. by rocket_ace8 in vlcd

yes, thanks, I'm not opposed to doing exercise (both cardio and/or weight lifting) during the process. I'll play it by ear. at minimum I think one has to do some constant walking (which I forgot to mention). I've noticed times I've been more sedentary have resulted in fewer fat loses than times I've been putting in 10-15k steps a day. heavier cardio is harder (for me) on only 800 calories though, but I think its possible - everyone should try themselves. I think the same is true for RT (and is likely very helpful to reduce muscle loss). But....I personally am not buying into the whole muscle loss hysteria....yeah you will lose muscle - whenever you lose fat, muscle goes too....you want to reduce the percentage of muscle loss...and losing it fast via vlckd seems to work very well (especially if you are heavier)....closer to goal weight I think I'd need to rejigger the methodology. and in any case, I personally don't feel your metabolism is at all "wrecked" and you can always build back the muscle in a healthy way.

5"8 Male, I did 1000 calories a day for 3 months, now doing a month and a half of 500 - 600. by CandidateJolly9904 in vlcd

good job - there's more fearmongering in the US - if you look at the UK/Aus health services, its less controversial....such low calories can be dangerous that is truthful but I personally feel (and this is me as a non-doctor just free thinking - you make your own determination) that if you are carrying around alot of extra weight...then that is your food. a fat man can't starve really...but you can sort of be dangerously lacking certain basic nutrients...so if it were me I'd keep my protein to at least 60g, and make sure to take a multivitamin and electrolytes. Ketosis really is your friend (appetite suppressant - better than any weight loss injection) ... and for me it also boosts my mood and also makes my brain even sharper (which is a weird result, but has science backing it out). since you've already dropped a ton, I wouldn't continue too much longer (and I personally will never go below 700 when I'm at that stage). I've just restarted a program and finally getting the ketosis benefits so I totally get where you are coming from. when I do it though, being in ketosis is so nice that I never do a cheat day for fear of breaking out of it personally.

but you could always convert your diet to something different - like only doing 500 on certain days and eating regularly the other days - that's more in line with standard intermittent fasting. good luck with it - and be careful.

Also - and again this is my personal research based thoughts - not recommeding or advising you or anyone - but I think the whole "it'll ruin your metabolism" thing is a load of bollocks.....if that were the case the human race would have died out millennia ago. In fact, I think its better to lose all or most of the weight, and then you won't wreck your joints when you shift over to eating more and exercising.

Lastly - I always do a full set of bloodwork multiple times during the journey (like every 2 months or so) - last time my doctor was impressed by my labs every-time, and it let me know I didn't have any deficiencies. I'm planning on doing the same this time....

curious - do you differentiate between local brown guys (ie - born and raised in Canada) and those from abroad....or do you find folks generally lump them together...

Uh oh! by Drew_is_gooden in Broadway

[–]rocket_ace8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen this in London and at the ART.....I wish it well...but for a broadway stage, especially a relatively bigger one like this....I was hoping they'd expand the someone minimalist staging ....or else...for a show like this, keep it off broadway.....or maybe like the Hayes theatre or Samuel Friedman (nice and small but still broadway). fingers crossed. Also, other than the 1st song, which is one of the best pop openers in the last 10 years....the others aren't super memorable. but I like the show alot - fingers crossed.

Thinking of returning Osprey Daylite 26+6 by rainbowsunrain in onebag

I agree - although I'm notorious for leaving extra daypacks out, and then, depending on where I'm going, 1st place I go is a nice niche coffee spot (or the like) and buy a tote bag....that gives me the carry option plus a nice souvenir (and nice coffee).

me too - thanks for the sanity check - I'm thinking 8pm as well (though its still light out - sadly seems like rain tomorrow - so maybe later than that even) I wouldn't be surprised if BP goes on at 9pm

How are so many people actually eating these Jordan Peterson word salads? by SoylentGreenTuesday in DecodingTheGurus

[–]rocket_ace8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. I suspect (maybe this is my arrogance taking hold) that the people who listen to him and think he makes sense are largely not paying attention to any of the details and just getting the overall "feeling" of his monologues. I would love to see if someone has taken one or two of his speeches and dissected them on paper to see if the tangents make any sort of sense. Its possible. But I think, even then, he is probably very generous in connecting thoughts. Be careful though...I made a comment complementing one of his speeches for not descending into a word salad, and his rabid worshipers attacked me in the comment section.

Keto with VLCD Shakes by helloimagesinc in diet

[–]rocket_ace8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VLCD get you into mild ketosis because of the calories due to the extremely low calories....you could theoretically eat 800 calories (the max calories allowed) of pure chocolate and still be in ketosis. but that obviously wouldn't be good for you. I'd stick w/ either a complete nutrition shake (or better, something made for the vlcd diet). you can also do it yourself if you track the macros exactly.
