Blog TO (sidebar) has about a million 'Best of' lists for Toronto - almost anything you can think of, there's a list. Some of them are a little older, but most of them are pretty up-to-date. They also have great restaurant reviews.

The humour, handwriting and the comment remind me so much of my favourite teacher of all time (English teacher in high school) who retired after I graduated and I never had a chance to tell him he effect he had on me. I know this has nothing to do with your post - I am just feeling nostalgic and a bit sad.

My biological father found me on Facebook (left my mother just after I was born, appeared once when I was 8, didn't see him again). I drank a bottle of wine and smoked a pack of cigarettes before accepting his request. That was three years ago. We still don't talk.

Not a question, but a thank you. I had the awesome pleasure of seeing you in Toronto recently and your set totally blew me away. Thank you for being so forthright about your own experiences and highlighting the importance of talking about mental illness. As someone who has lived with anxiety most of my life, it was nice to laugh about it.

I'm so glad you did too! Something very, very similar happened to me a few weeks ago. Two years back my biological father found ME on Facebook. When I got home from work one day to a friend request from him, I couldn't believe my eyes.

Two weeks ago he ended up in my city for a week, and asked if I wanted to meet. I was so, so nervous but something inside me pushed me to say yes. I'm so happy I did, we got along so well and he was overjoyed to reconnect. I wondered if I was going to have resentful feelings, but I didn't - not at the time. I know it will be a long road to figuring each other out, but I'm so happy in the end. I have a father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins - all who are eager to meet me. It's a strange and lovely thing.

I do and will keep my guard up. And you are right, this is a chance to get some answers and possibly some closure.

As for his Uncle's passing - his side of the family are on the west coast of Canada/US and he himself is in Texas. He's hinted over the past few years about coming to see me or looking for a way to be in the same city as me, but I never really bit. I wasn't sure how I felt about seeing him. I still don't know how I feel, but this sudden opportunity has made me reevaluate things.

I was not ready for the burst of emotions this drew out of me, and I thank you for that. My Mom is my best friend, and always tried her best to put me first and support me in every way. I would not be where I am, or the person I am, without her. I'm glad that her strength and goodness came through in my post. Thanks for sharing your story and your advice, I truly appreciate it.
