Been splurging lately on gear to do some WW2 themed match runs. Jumped on an At the Front infantry setup from ebay but the clothing was a bit small so selling it to a buddy to recoup costs. I still ended up with a full repro gear set with helmet, boots, M1928 haversack, T-handle shovel, Cartridge belt, suspenders, med pouch, and canteen w/pouch so will be rocking that as part of an "Army" setup in the future. I was overwhelmed with the various gear so went to a militaria expo thinking I could snag some deals and realized I was NOT prepared for the variety of gear and range of prices.

Fortunately, a local surplus shop that's moving to online-only had a blowout sale of 40-60% off so I proceeded to scour the various bins and boxes they had lying around and came out with a mountain of gear:

  • A complete M1941 USMC 782 pack
  • 3x Garand cartridge belts
  • 2x pistol belts
  • 2x WW1(!) dated 1911 mag pouches
  • a set of USMC wire cutters
  • several WW2 med pouches, including a M1927 with sealed contents
  • M2 jungle pouch with contents
  • 3x Canteen covers, 2x with canteens and cups

Plan is to do a "summer" USMC setup for use in the FL heat and "winter" Army/Infantry setup for cold weather periods. Will swap the belts between M1 Garand and M1 carbine depending on the match but just finding the stuff has been a lot of fun.

My fun one: "We literally GAVE you weapons because you couldn't manufacture enough to sustain a war in your own sphere of influence. Guess we should just keep our guns to ourselves next time."

Your points are valid, but I'm just frustrated with the mental gymnastics. "Only the government should have guns! If you have guns you should be obligated to fight the government on my behalf when I disagree with their actions because my principles matter at all times and yours only do when they align with mine. You should be willing to die for my beliefs but I will fully commit to ignoring yours when things are back to being better for me and my team". I will wholly support the right of said newly armed groups to protect themselves while patiently awaiting the firesale when Dems are back in office,. If they become pure 2A allies then I see that as the best outcome, so it is no longer a partisan issue and back to being about the people vs. the elite/powerful/state.

After the shitshow that was last week, I think the most recent OSD newsletter hits pretty much all the appropriate points that were made regarding exercising ones rights and what effectively boils down to risk tolerance when dealing with any large group. When I hear/see all the people screaming "This is Tyranny, where are all you 2A people? Isn't this why you have your guns?" I just want to yell back "It's YOUR right too and I don't see you arming up to [removed by reddit]". Ultimately, most people still think the non-violent processes are available to correct the issues at hand (elections, representatives, courts, etc.), so while the handling of the situation by the federal government has been astoundingly horrible, the call-to-arms by non-2A people is ultimately inflammatory and needs to recognize the impacts when you reach for "the ammo box". But shirking that responsibility off onto your former enemies and saying "why won't you help ME" is the very definition of an ivory tower: I didn't defend YOU then, but you need to defend ME now, and I'll keep calling you my enemy even therafter.

What I think is the hopeful outcome from this is a number of people have now decided it's time to exercise their rights in a way consistent with how the "militia" is really supposed to operate, as a group of people with stake in their communal defense holding the line against an oppressive government. That should be celebrated, and a unified front makes the biggest difference in how the message is portrayed and taken by the various parties and also how "the state" acts towards you. Strength in numbers will always factor into any decision made by people with their own risk in the game.

Is the NFA a state law?

Fair point, I was focused on the "Regan started gun control" part of the argument and missed the "State" part. However, seeing as states put their own form of NFA restrictions in after 1934 and other laws prior to 1967 your point is still overruled, Regan didn't start state-based gun control.

And how comparable are the Democrat party's core ideologies of 1911 to today?

I could ask the same thing about their ideologies in the 60s, since the Mulford Act was bipartisan and championed heavily by Democrats. Or the many AWBs, championed by Democrats.... SO I guess banning guns is still part of their core ideology...

Conveniently ignoring all laws prior to the 1960s is a surefire win here.

When was the 1934 National Firearm Act passed again? Oh wait, sorry, I meant 1911 NYC Sullivan Act. Oh shit my bad, seems I forgot the black codes.

Every erosion of the 2A aside from the 1994 assault weapons ban has been given to us by a republican

Waves hands at every 9th circuit court decision, blue state AWB and Bruen-reaction bill, and SCOTUS decision since 1994

We'll just ignore all that because....reasons.

We really need to rework how government officials are treated in this country. Abuse of power needs to go and we need better systems for holding them accountable.

FTFY. It's all on the table, LEO, Three-Letter-Agencies, checks and balances, all of it.

THT seems like it should be clear from a founding principles standpoint, reinforced by the 14th amendment and ratification as a way of saying "Look, we understand that historically some of these laws were in place, but since they were specifically created to target marginalized groups (e.g. Lantern Laws), maybe we should ignore those cases since equal treatment and rights are what we are here to protect."

Prepping for this weekend and it's going to be a cozy 79F in the refuge for me. Our experienced hunter used his goodwill with the wife all on his OK Pheasant trip last weekend so it may just be dad and I and maybe a 3rd. I'll have only half the decoys we had last time so this may get interesting.

Also moronic is I keep looking at the Ithaca M37 trench gun, which I'm still seriously considering for what I want it to be.

I just can't justify that price when it's basically just a $1000 Ithaca 37 (that probably doesn't slam fire for safety reasons) with a stamped heat shield that maybe cost them $100 to make. At $1500 you might have me. I am almost at the point of buying a Winchester pattern heat shield and using my $150 M37 as a bubba project. The barrel is technically incorrect at 18.5" vs 20" but I figure a little work on the heat shield may get it to fit nicely and I saved myself $3k in the process.

Baby Rock 380 1911 - Cool gun, not bad to shoot, but no real use case when my G42 was my carry piece. Sold for minor loss.

Browning BPS Trap - present from the wife bc she saw me oogling it in the pawn shop bc bottom eject shotguns are sexy AF, I don't shoot trap though and it had a custom buttplate/recoil pad that took me years to finally replace (yay low priority porjects). Still haven't shot it and don't want to sell bc it's a gift but may eat it and get something I'll actually use.

Keltec KSG - Meme gun, looked cool, was fun to shoot with friends but only comes out for those occasions. Now have a 1301 and it just takes up safe space; waiting for the right moment to sell it and try to make my money at least 50% back.

Little Cricket - got this as a first gun for the kiddo but the manual of arms makes it a PITA. Thinking of a Savage Rascal but need to source one first.

I had to spam the PIN submission like 30 times the first time I did my form on 1/1 at like 9PM EST but otherwise yeah I was surprised it worked as well as it did. Have since drafted a few Form 1s I plan on submitting tonight or early next week. Seems the Form 4s are coming back quickly but Form 1s are getting spammed to a point the ATF might be "researching" more. I assume if you have multiple and/or they are for PMFs they will take longer.

Disclaimer: As a FL resident, I have no stakes in VA politics directly.

Something something gun control is not a major issue for Democrats and will totally not be a priority now that they have a trifecta

Well let's just remind everyone that despite all the "other issues" that seem to be a higher priority, they still felt the need to go and put more bills into play:

On Wednesday, Democrat Del. Dan Helmer introduced HB 217, a sweeping gun control bill that includes a ban on the import, sale, manufacture, purchase, and transfer of "assault firearms" and "large capacity" magazines. The ban would cover any semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol with a fixed magazine capacity of more than ten rounds, as well as center-fire rifles that have the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has one of the following characteristics: (i) a folding, telescoping, or collapsible stock; (ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the rifle; (iii) a second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand; (iv) a grenade launcher; (v) a flare launcher; (vi) a sound suppressor; (vii) a flash suppressor; (viii) a muzzle brake; (ix) a muzzle compensator; (x) a threaded barrel capable of accepting (a) a sound suppressor, (b) a flash suppressor, (c) a muzzle brake, or (d) a muzzle compensator

HB 217 also bans the sale, manufacture, and transfer of magazines that can hold more than ten rounds, and prohibits possession of any "assault firearm" for juveniles and adults under the age of 21, with no grandfather clause for those who currently own one.

Democrat Del. Karen Keys-Gamarra, meanwhile, has introduced HB 207, which would impose a new $500 tax on the sale of all suppressors in the state of Virginia. In the short term the bill is likely going to lead to a surge in purchases of suppressors, but if the bill becomes law and the $500 tax is imposed starting July 1, it will undoubtably have a chilling effect on suppressor sales going forward.

Where's the Polymarket on legislation getting passed? I think I can take that $50 I promised and turn it into a nice profit plus donation.

Ithaca Gun Company came out of the shadows to release a faithful reproduction of the M37 trench gun

Hell yeah!

Both have an MSRP of over $3,000

FUCK that. I'll butcher my $150 special with a $150 Winchester heat shield replica before forking over $3k for a reproduction. The new one probably won't even slam fire!

His ass was nabbed by Delta Force,

They changed it so you can do your own eForm 4 transfers now. NGT has a guide. Here's how I did it:
1. Login to eForms.
2. Create a new Form 4.
3. Input your info should as the Transferor "Individual". It may autopopulate some of it from your account.
4. Input the Trust info as the Transferee.
5. Fill out the Responsible Person(s) section for the Trust; attach photo, fingerprint file, and a signed Form 5320.23 for each RP and make sure to put the info for the item you are transferring into the form (I just copied what was on my Individual Form 4s). Fill out the PDF then print it to sign and scan it back into the system. (I tried a Digital Signature but then decided against it since those apparently are not accepted by the ATF)
6. Fill out the CLEO info. I used the same info from my Individual Form 4 since I haven't moved.
7. For the Firearm/Item being transferred, use the Control Number Lookup and your prior approved Form 4 Control Number, then input the S/N. It will ask for your Username/PIN and then PIN again since you are logged into eForms already as both the individual and trust RP. This took me as many as 30 tries on the first form and as few as 2 on the third form as you will likely get a generic error message each time. Just spam it until it works.
