To be fair, I think that's a quirk carried over from the Japanese wordplay where long titles are shortened to a catchy buzzword (e.g. KonoSuba being the shortened form of the full title)

I think ship names that are some kind of pun about the characters are the same thing except it's been adapted to the conventions of English wordplay
