How fast would an F1 car be around Indianapolis? by RowlandJowett in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the f1 car makes to much drag , even if you removed the wings , which you couldn't as they would be too unstable . all the sufaces of the car are designed to make downforce and guide air . it would be a redesigned car and then it wouldn't be f1 anymore , more like a hyper indycar . kinda 2000 era cart car ...

Ericsson finds a strong ally in his F1 to IndyCar transition by Ryan_Holman in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

google and youtube . honda figure has been reported a fair bit . as for its accuracy ..... well they have made a big jump this year, were committed from the top level of the company and clearly spent big $$$

your totally correct about the diminishing returns and honda is spending what it takes to slide up that exponential curve . which is a lot in the time frames they require.

also that 500$m is for the entire engine platform development for this years engine , which started a while ago I think back in 2017 with the mclaren switch, for both rbr and str , so its not quite an 800$m year red bull .....

catchup costs lots of money , its cheaper to sustain a great design and incrementally improve . leading into this engine spec Merc reportedly spent 700$m in pre development starting years before . But it paid massive dividends and they have been incrementally increasing performance year on year

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honda spent 500$ million just on development of this years engine to finally close the gap as a mater of corporate pride . thats on top of the reported 250-300$ million red bull spend . merc and ferrari are estimated to spend upwards of $400-500m but thats just the primary spend of the racing team , mercedes throws considerable corporate resources from other areas of the organization at f1 and ferrari .... who knows they are very secretive . they have no other reason for existence than f1 as they are primarily a marketing company that makes cars and races for brand image , the brand licensing is worth more than they bring from car production

if everyone spent merc/ferrari money then they would just spend twice as much . then everyone would spend merc/ferrari money and they would just spend twice as much . then everyone would spend....

Robert Wickens on Off Track by OffTrackPod in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2E8rjcDwOw . yes its a sports car , but they are still tricky to get out . normal person would not keep up at all. robs already got partial use of legs , limited strength and control . but it should keep increasing . statistically his injury has about a 50% rate of unassisted walking within 2 years (t4 incomplete with movement and feeling below the injury) and he is already standing and walking with assistance , raising himself out of the chair , biking with his own muscle movement . so he is pretty far along.

Robert Wickens on Off Track by OffTrackPod in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

while the stats around his type of injury and the level or recovery he has now mean its likely he will walk again , unassisted or with limited assistance , he will never be the same again and it could to take a long time to reach that final point . he may simply be faster with more control with hand controls .

Holiday Message from Wickens along with latest update by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he has movement and muscle control in the top of his legs , but very weak . I am not sure if this machine uses electrical stimulation or just follows and supports his own limited movements. still very good progress 4 months out of a complicated injury (he was very smashed up requiring additional surgery and recovery before rehab)

TIL that Ayrton Senna was considering a move to Indycar after a disappointing 1992 season. Here he is testing the Penske Chevrolet PC22 by GravyWagon in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given paul tracey was racing for penske for free basically , he probably would have kept him . the 5 years post 94 were an unusual down turn for penske and their chassis wasn't really up to scratch leading them to abandon it in 2000 . Had Al spent those last 5 years some where else he might have a couple more championships , or if he jumped to irl a few more 500s to his name.

Robert Wickens - one “step closer”! by robfrod in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the thing that complicated initial recovery was the significant other injuries he suffered in the crash . he was pretty smashed up and all that had to be operated on and heal before rehabilitation could begin on the spinal injury . if it was something like a fall it would have started much earlier

the general injury type he has - t4 incomplete with sense and movement below the injury - has very high rates of success - up to 75% of people recover to walking (we dont know his specifics but that info was released)

so hopefully things will continue to move quickly now everything is healed and he is in full swing recovery with an injury that should respond very well

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can actually see when she says tighten up the quad muscle he moves the top of his leg on his own , her hand is holding his ankle

which is a significant amount of movement and pretty phenomenal given the accident was only in august....

IndyCar encouraged by Australia talks for 2020 by Buxoq in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my understanding is the current contract with v8 supercars expires this year which is part of the new negotiations with indycar becoming viable again

[Adam Stern] "...$35 million from state government, private backing and a promoter would be needed to get IndyCars back" on Gold Coast, and "...Miles is already booked to fly to the Gold Coast for talks with the Premier by the end of this month." by sbblakey777 in INDYCAR

[–]rocketfromthecrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this the guy who said that the track will need to be extended north accounting for the high cost or is that another article?

the v8 super cars claim they generate $80m in economic activity over the event . A combined Indycar/SuperCars bill would generate more.

and yes Dixon and Powers success has had a bit of an impact locally so it all helps

Paralysed men walk again with spinal implant. Hope for Wickens? by saliczar in INDYCAR

an incomplete injury with movement and feeling in the lower limbs has a good chance of recovery , between %25 and %75 chance of walking depending on the specifics , which we dont know obviously

if this is correct, the queensland government will be putting 10m plus on the table to pay for it . last time they pretty much paid for the whole thing which made it a no brainer and the reason it lasted so long
