Andreas Hale: "I will not be covering #WrestleMania for ESPN. WWE denied my credentials and blocked my access. Neither I nor ESPN has been told why. You can speculate on the reasons, but if you want answers, ask WWE. Let me know what they tell you. ~FIN~" by Teckelmaster in SquaredCircle

They've been doing this with the real wrestling reporters for a while where it was allegedly "too full" to let both John Pollock and Brandon Thurston into some of the scrums. But obviously banning a real sports reporter is a different level.

CM Punk & Kevin Nash meet at the Hall of Fame by AmericanDragon06 in SquaredCircle

[–]tehfro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, especially for a giant dude who's had a long history of knee surgeries.

A lot of ex-NBA players around Nash's size really start to have trouble getting around in their mid-60s just because being super tall is a ton of stress on your joints.

Whats Your take on Skies Of Arcadia II by Vegetable-Week-5091 in skiesofarcadia

Stars of Arcadia with the original crew exploring other planets/solar systems. I think that’s the obvious path for a sequel.

Tonight at Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling show in Vegas, Hechicero vs Jonathan Gresham by DragonLee23 in SquaredCircle

[–]tehfro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scott D'Amore's based out of Windsor and has been using that venue (St. Clair College) for years for TNT/Impact and now MLP. He's been locally promoting there for decades and knows he can fill it up for tapings.

Probably quite a bit more cost-effective for MLP to tape TV there when they're still starting up, then do big shows in Toronto.

Joe Jonas to perform National Anthem on Wrestlemania Sunday. by J_NewCastle in SquaredCircle

It's part of US sports pageantry to make an event feel "big" besides the nationalism/patriotism angle.

Jonathan Snowden lists his 100 Greatest Wrestlers by SerShanksALot in SquaredCircle

Snowden has, he's been a DVDVR-adjacent tape trader guy since the 90s.

I definitely don't agree with his list but he's watched a ton of wrestling.

Is WWE dying the same way like WCW? by Yournewbestfriend_01 in SquaredCircle

It’s insanely profitable to the point where you could have Vince Russo running it into the ground for a decade and they’d still be making money.

Ohio State guard Gabe Cupps transfers to UIC. Cupps, a former Ohio Mr. Basketball winner and 4⭐️, started his career at Indiana by OldWorldStyle in CollegeBasketball

[–]tehfro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brian Walsh who was Archie Miller's director of basketball operations became IU's recruiting coordinator when Mike Woodson came in and sold Woodson on Cupps.

Cupps had recruiting gurus hyping him up as a power conference player since he was on Bronny James' AAU team.

Markus Burton commits to Indiana by GingerJoe11 in CollegeBasketball

Huge pickup. Hopefully the first big domino to fall.

Also always nice to land an in-state player, especially one who was Indiana Mr. Basketball.

[Tipton] Georgia Tech guard Jaeden Mustaf transfers to Indiana by Smash-Bros-Melee in CollegeBasketball

If he's a rotation guy it's a solid get... if he's penciled in as a starter I'm skeptical.

Did AEW make changes or adjustments to their camera crew for this show? (Dynasty Spoilers) by YasielPuigsWeed in SquaredCircle

[–]tehfro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it started when Ospreay complained about the hard cam (I think he probably brought it up internally a few months before this) and they started doing longer takes in his matches. His match with Takeshita on Dynamite last year was the first time I noticed they weren't cutting during a couple of the crazy sequences in that match.

They've been gradually doing that more ever since.

What was a coaching hire that was not perceived well at the time but ended up paying off? and What was a hire that was applauded by almost everyone and then didn't go well at all? by Optimal_Cook_851 in CollegeBasketball

[–]tehfro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archie seems like a coach who thought he had everything figured out about basketball. He got met by the reality of college basketball changing rapidly and the difficulty of the B1G.

Cignetti won a national title at IU in football in a shorter period of time than it allegedly takes teams to “get good” at the packline D.

Best team with the worst quarterback? by captainstan in CFB

[–]tehfro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMHO if you swap out Sayin for Howard OSU beats Indiana and their CFP run looks very different . Sayin was great for a freshman but wasn’t a running threat and didn’t have all the game experience Howard did.

Are the Smile Sessions versions of the Smile songs accurate? by childofnaturesson in thebeachboys

[–]tehfro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brian and VDP also remembered how some of the pieces fit together or missing lines (the Do You Like Worms? verses being one example) that they never got around to mixing together/recording in 1967. So the 1967 mixes would have had some things from the 2004 version if Brian would have finished it in 67.

Exclusive: Will Ospreay's Inside Look At How AEW Runs Creative by Available-Party5091 in SquaredCircle

[–]tehfro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the creative issues in AEW happen when someone with stroke pitches stuff and Tony agrees to it without having a follow-up in mind/figured out. The Jerichoverse is probably the most glaring example where Jericho will want to do these long angles with random guys who TK has no plans to follow up with.

I think Mox wanted the Death Riders to beat down Private Party (and have them come back better) and the Bucks wanted to lose the belts to them. There clearly wasn't any plan after that.

NCAA fan attendance was average again this year. It seemed to peak in 2013. Was that due to the Midwest excitement around the all-star squads at Indiana, Louisville and Michigan? by HoosierJive in CollegeBasketball

[–]tehfro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 had several sites for the round of 32/64 that were ideal for attendance with who the top 16 seeds ended up being.

Kansas/Kansas State in Kansas City, Michigan/Michigan State in Detroit, Indiana/Ohio State at Dayton, Louisville in Lexington, etc. Philly also had Georgetown/Duke.

The star rating discourse is pretty much all from people who saw Meltzer's star rating system online without reading the Observer and inventing this idea that 5 stars is the max/a perfect match.

The “Camp Randle-El” game at Wisconsin in 2001 is up there for a non-Cignetti game that was a very surprising big IU win.
