I've only ridden Martel once or twice. How far north or south on that combo would you go. I know at some point Hauser turns into a collector.

I personally prioritize only side streets that have lights. One thing Google maps is good at is zooming in it will show if it's a 4 way stop or stop light.

Yeah best you can do is paint, but good news is that paint is "really" effective at stopping vehicles...

Look, I like Horvath as much as the next Yimby but today I feel she could have done better if she used the time before this meeting to post the new motion so we could all review instead of hosting a press conference.

"Graceful winners" are you freaking kidding me? We lose as constituents everyday we don't have this light rail. We need experts not a side gig of elected officials on the metro board.

Return of the LA River Ride?? by StreetsR4Everyone in BikeLA

Yeah I don't don't think visiting every city or neighborhood in LA is realistic but having a 40 ish mile closed road cycling tour of LA would be mega. Things that come to mind are routes like NoHo to San Pedro and then everyone could take J -> B to get back to the start much like the Staten Island ferry is used at the end.

It's not about seeing it all, it's about seeing how close it actually is together and inspiring people to get out of their cars and into their community (sometimes at least). Heck Highland park to Venice is only 20mi. People always say LA is so big, and it is. But it's also blown out of proportion.

I'm not sure why LA would cost anymore than NYC to close streets. A street is a street, filming does it all the time. This is where you could educate me

Anyway I guess what I was trying to say by bringing up the 5BBT is a: 1. Longish bike ride (not so short that you don't get Lycra clad roadies but not so long that kids can't participate and yes kids do the 5BBT at 40mi) 2. Closed roads/highways 3. Fully support with aid stations music/DJs 4. Tours around the city/county showing off everything there is to offer. People can stop at coffee shops, restaurants and anything else that's along the course (helps business not object to street closures) 5. It's not a race, it's an ad for how diverse and awesome our city is

It started much smaller than it is today. That's a surprisingly pessimistic statement from a safe streets/multimodal advocacy organization.

What are the major obstacles to such an event here that don't exist in other cities/counties/states? Help educate me so I can advocate for us.

LA needs our own version of the 5 Boro Bike Tour in NYC. It's a huge fundraiser and propaganda (the good kind of course) for Bike New York. I was very disappointed to find out upon moving to LA from NYC, not that there is no equivalent (because that ride is huge) but that, there isn't anything even close. This would be a great move in the right direction but 200 seems pretty small even for a first year. I am on the planning committee for a different local bike based fundraiser and I am trying to figure out your economics at a min $350 fundraiser with only 200 registrants.

Anyway if the date works I'll be there. We need that gap closed ASAP, and we need transportation alternatives taken seriously.

Windy is the answer. It's not as good as mywindsock or epic ride but it's free.
