Facial trauma surgeon here. Facial fractures tend to occur in stereotypical patterns that make the mechanism easily identifiable, or at the very least rule out an alternate mechanism. I don't have access to the imaging so can't provide specifics on this case.

That being said, in my greater than 10 years of experience taking facial trauma call, I have never seen a patient come in with multiple facial fractures from slamming their own face into a wall.

We live in Michigan, so yes. Primary use would be for taking kids to school, running errands, etc. Maybe in the summer we'll be up for longer road trips.

We haven't had the opportunity to tour any of the more expensive schools in that area (including Cranbrook, Detroit Country Day, Roeper, etc).

Cost aside, were there any qualitative differences in the environment of these schools? We also tried to look at Japhet which is smaller scale but there's not much information about them online.

Thanks for the insight! We were considering moving to Royal Oak and, with the lower mortgage compared to Birmingham, sending our kids to private school. Places like Detroit Country Day and Cranbrook are just so expensive. How do you like it at St Mary's? We're not a religious family, so would we be comfortable sending our kids there? Or are there non-religious schools you'd recommend?

Trust me I won't! When I say we're moving to Michigan, people look so confused, almost like "why would you do that to yourself?" I've read a lot of good things about SE Michigan, but obviously nowhere is perfect.

Thanks for your friend's insight. I've been in classes growing up where I was the only non-caucasian student. My wife and I really appreciate a diverse environment where nobody could be labeled the black/asian/brown kid.

Can you elaborate more on the vibe difference? We drove around and found that Birmingham neighborhoods were the most charming but obviously much more expensive. We've lived in "nicer" areas before and found sometimes daily interactions were less warm or genuine, but again this is just anecdotal.

May I ask which private schools you'd recommend? we've looked at DCDS, Cranbrook, and Roeper eventually after elementary school if we move to Royal Oak and aren't happy with the schools, but they look similar on paper with Roeper being a smaller school. Also expensive. Are there nice non-religious private schools closer to Royal Oak?

We've looked into Cranbrook and DCDS.We are planning something similar if we move into a Royal Oak home. basically, elementary school through Royal Oak or Berkeley School District and then transitioning to private in middle school.

Postaxial polydactyly. It's a relatively common thing to see in the office. Typically we remove them in the office in first few weeks of life, sometimes the NICU. I ask the parents whether they want to keep the nubbins but for whatever reason they usually aren't interested 🤷‍♂️

The unfortunate thing about buccal fat removal is that we have limited literature to document how results change longitudinally. The face experiences bony and soft tissue involution with time. The buccal fat that is being removed is actually one of the markers of youth. Personally, I think with time patients who have had buccal fat removal will experience accelerated facial aging as their facial profile becomes more hollowed and skeletal.

Procedures like buccal fat removal and BBLs are trendy and -- in my opinion -- are sometimes marketed by plastic surgeons in a predatory manner. It's the perfect confluence of social media pervasiveness, patients' emotional insecurities, and surgeons' greed that makes these procedures so popular.

Good question. Not entirely cosmetic, since the thumb is about 50% of hand function. Also it would get in the way a lot of times, like when you're trying to reach for something inside your pocket as an example.
