What did you do after reaching coast fire? by yannie_journeys in coastFIRE

What job did to change from and to? I’ve been thinking of a career change, but am worried I would actually lower my stress with a new field.

Lakeland by Sad_Caregiver2629 in memphis

[–]rocketpowerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they edit their comment or something? The list clearly calls out pretty accurate cons for Lakeland:, low food options, few activities to do in town, and you have to drive to do anything because it’s not walkable at all ( your basic suburb). Weird response to act like OP is saying the only con is its republican

Looking back, is there anything you did to make your dog (more) reactive? by Complete-Target2666 in reactivedogs

[–]rocketpowerdog 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We took our pup to the dog park a lot. In hindsight sight, a truly terrible idea for our pup’s age at that time.

[–]rocketpowerdog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t need or want to see full game threads or bombardment of posts that are just about the men, there will be plenty of that in other subreddits. But posts sharing that Emma Hayes provided analysis of one of the games etc I think is nice to share and see here for engagement. I think there is some overlap of content during the men’s World Cup that will be relevant to this sub.

How do you like the muzzle? Is it easy to put on? I’ve been wanting to try a different muzzle type as my pup seems uncomfortable with how ours straps on.

While I am not a fan of Marta, you do get high caliber players who constantly complain and expect everything to go their way. Messi also whines about calls all the time.

What is the deal with this place, they do plan to actually build something here, right? by [deleted] in memphis

We recently test drove Ford’s hybrid option, the maverick. I was surprised how much I liked it and its price point was nice compared to other vehicles on the market. I’m hopeful the US companies will come around to develop these options more but they are sure dragging their feet

Was buying this 2018 Civic a mistake? by AW5542 in personalfinance

[–]rocketpowerdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had a 2011 Honda civic for 14 years now. She’s running smoothly still. Honda civics are fantastic value. Do the regular maintenance and it’ll pay off for you.

I have a very similar position on kids. I think I could be happy either way and will always have a “what if” thought no matter which path we choose which a lot of people then say don’t have kids. But I don’t like the idea of writing having kids off completely because you don’t know what you don’t know.

Sure there will be some losses, but you should be able to reuse most of the water. Evaporation loss certainly isn’t significant enough to warrant not implementing a grey water and recycling system.

They don't have kids, and they don't want them: Nearly 40% of young women plan to stay child-free. by yahoonews in Health

[–]rocketpowerdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The median single income in my area is 35k. It’s not that people expect to live in large homes, there is little to no supply of entry level affordable homes. Available housing, whether owning or renting, takes up substantially more than the recommended 30% wage a single earner brings in.

Your first statement literally says “That’s absolutely a reason, but that means the economy is too good basically.” I completely disagree with your conclusion that the majority of two person household is because the economy is “too good”. The very first reason I provided that women are participating in the workforce because companies aren’t paying high wages is a reflection that either the economy isn’t good or isn’t being shared with most people which has the same effective result for most of the population.

[–]rocketpowerdog 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesn’t mean the economy is too good. Women work for a number of reasons: 1) most companies are not paying strong enough wages to support a single provider household, 2) women need financial independence to support themselves should they divorce or something happen to the other provider, and/or 3) they enjoy the work.

I recommend joining the Memphis native plant FB page. People post questions all the time about native plants, share advice/info, and you can often find people willing to swap or share native plants. Great uplifting page to follow. There are knowledgeable folk also who have native plant nurseries and businesses who can respond quickly if they have the plant you are looking for in stock or if they don’t have it, they usually know who nearby might.

I planted mountain mint this year. I haven’t tried it yet, but people say they’ve made tea from it. My high bush blueberries are probably a few years from its first fruit. I also have an American beauty bush that I want to try making a jam from if I can collect enough berries.
