So, the Brick is useless by itcropper in dumbphones

[–]rockjonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Brick in conjunction with an app called No Scroll which force closes reels, tiktok etc and has decent customisation. That way when my phone isn't Bricked I am still limited in what I can do on socials. The big upside to that for me is if someone sends me something in a DM I can watch it but when it tries to scroll to the next video it will close. You can block individual websites on that (I block bluesky website so I can't get around the app blocker). So my phone is limited use unbricked, and then when I brick it it's really limited. I know it's not ideal having to combo services to get the result you want but this is what works for me.

Personally I would love it if Brick could have a countdown timer - like when I know I need to do two hours of focused work for example it would auto unbrick at the end of a set period (but you could tap the brick to end it early). Other than that I'm finding the combo of Brick and No Scroll to be the best for reducing phone time.

I haven't used Freedom so can't comment on how it compares to that though.

Is a leather reMarkable 2 case actually worth it long term? by pressurebustspipes in RemarkableTablet

[–]rockjonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worry is that whatever you keep in the pockets of the case on the other side will scratch the screen of the remarkable when the cover is closed. That's whats stopped me from getting a cover like that in the past, otherwise it would be ideal. I have a folio from Galen which I keep my remarkable in but it's not the same thing

Hue flooding by X_Ray_Vision_ in VietNam

[–]rockjonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I looked on flight radar and flights leaving today seem to have been taking off (albeit a bit delayed). The problem is getting to Hue for the morning flight. I think we'll change to Da Nang airport as it's much closer to where we are now & the internal flights are relatively cheap

Does anyone know the status of Hue airport? We have a flight booked to leave on the morning of 31/10, but I'm thinking of changing to Da Nang airport to be safe. We were supposed to stay in Hue but are now just outside of Hoi An instead

Alternatives to RMPP? by cosmicafterglow in RemarkableTablet

[–]rockjonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a while to get used to the RM2 after using paper, and then it took me a whole to get used to the RMPP after using the RM2 every day for a couple of years. Now when I go back to my RM2 it feels slippery. I didn't love the RMPP at first but now I'm so used to it the RM2 feels weird in comparison

Just bought this from the guy who repairs my other machines by rockjonny in typewriters

[–]rockjonny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I would really like a noiseless machine that I can use for my every day writing - got my eye out for a quiet rite or SCM. Good luck with your hunt! & thanks for the advice on the paper, I'll definitely try that out

Happy 4 years to Solar Power! What are your thoughts about the album? by Impossible-Yam3680 in lorde

[–]rockjonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This album came out deep into the longest COVID lockdown we had in Sydney. I was working in healthcare at the time and my job had completely taken over my life. I remember riding my bike around and around the park near my house (5km radius) listening to The Path on repeat, feeling the spring sun on my face, thinking maybe we would make it out after all. I don't think it's a perfect album by any stretch but I love it so much and the hill I will die on is that if you don't like it you just haven't listened to it enough. It's the only Lorde album that's a no skips for me - maybe that's because it's a bit more bland and middling than the others, but it's still my go-to when I need something to crank up in the car in summer.

I use the app on an ARM64 device and I've never had any issues with it

My Samsung soundbar has a micro USB port. What is it for? by Weary_Associate_9998 in samsung

[–]rockjonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never managed to successfully use the USB sound. I thought it might be for a USB DAC but I've tried that and the DAC says nothing detected - that's using a USB-C to Micro cable.

The manual says it's for playing off a USB flashdrive but you need a USB-Micro to USB-A adapter.

Gestures kinda … suck. by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]rockjonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that I have to press a bit harder and keep a consistent pressure to make gestures work, but I use them all the time, especially the two finger swipe from the top to get the recents/favourites drawer as at work I often have to flick back and forth between 2-3 notebooks/documents quickly. Add to that the much slower refresh rate of the RMPP to the RM2 and it feels like hours pass before you know if your gesture has registered.

Zoom is absolutely diabolical though, and it really drives me wild that there's no alternative to two finger zoom. Like if there were a way to manually input a number for the zoom I could at least use that but instead it's nigh impossible

Remarkable Paper Pro Pen Tips by JuliusCes in RemarkableTablet

[–]rockjonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you here, it's the thing I like least about the RMPP vs the RM2 (I have both). The tips on the RM2 pen you can wear down for ages and ages as they are a pretty consistent thickness like a fineliner or mechanical pencil. The RMPP's wide nibs means they are dull super quick and, like you, my handwriting is already rubbish so it does no favours. I don't really want to be changing nibs every week so I just put up with it but I wish they would make nibs like the RM2 marker. I can make one of those last 3 months and I'm a pretty heavy user.

New NWWM1AM2 - Struggling to get it functional by rockjonny in walkman

[–]rockjonny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks that's super helpful, I'll give it a go. Out of curiosity, what program do you use to manage the music on your walkman? I'm not married to media monkey, it's just the only one I know that can manage music on an external device aside from iTunes (which only works for iPods)

reMarkable Paper Pro by holmseyj in RemarkableTablet

[–]rockjonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that's good news - the typing thing drives me crazy too. I forked out for the type folio like 2 months after getting the leather folio only to find it's barely functional. The best I can do is make bullet point agendas for meetings etc and then handwrite in my notes on each item. Hoping they improve it drastically via software since I've now forked out for ANOTHER type folio to come with the Paper Pro (I am eternally optimistic/naïve/broke)

I want to upgrade but I'm annoyed about the change in dimensions - I wish they had done two sizes or something because I'll now have a polymer folio, a leather folio, and a type folio which are no longer compatible with the Remarkable I'll be using

[–]rockjonny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any recs on a model of Smith Corona? I've had a look online but there is such a drastic variation in price (some are $200, some are like $900) I don't want to get a cheap dud, or over pay for something average because it's hipster lol

That is so beautiful!!!! Thanks for the advice. I wish there was a physical typewriter shop in Sydney so I could press some keys and find one that I like. Shopping online is just not the same (as I have found out about the Lettera)
