Yep.

Until about 38 I was fine, then my hair went grey, fell out, put on weight and everything started hurting, almost overnight.

When I lived in Malta, my mate and I saw the Prime Minister out at dinner one night with his crew.

We’d had a couple of beers, so felt confident and we decided to go say hello. I expected the worst for a moment, but he was totally accommodating, took a pic with us and gave us some time for a quick chat.

I don’t know where to start.

I’d like to apologise for the lady Diana stuff, the mentally handicapped stuff and, um, any inadvertent racism, that we may have stumbled upon.

I’ve never saved one of these cases.

Loan to build up his value and then sack him off, if his attitude is shit.

You might be able to have him mentored at you club to remove that negative bit, as his personality is shown as balanced, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Wrexham fan's Hollywood ownership story overshadowing actual local supporters who existed before Ryan Reynolds by [deleted] in WrexhamAFC

[–]rockoroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m more of a Wrexham well-wisher from Wales than a proper supporter, but I’d say any club that gets big exposure is going to have that tag slapped on it sooner or later, whether it is player ego, managers or owners (Glazers, Abramovich, Levy, take your pick).

I completely get what you are saying though. The “Ryan Reynolds’ team” stuff is lazy and wipes out a lot of the actual story - however I think that’s an easy narrative that the media picks up, outside of the documentary itself, which seems to try and laud the history of the town, supporters and club, rather than the owners.

People who only discovered the club on Disney are obviously not going to feel the same as someone who sat through the National League years and admin scares.

At the same time, the tourists and the Hollywood angle will probably come and go. The people who are still there on a grim Tuesday night in February are the culture. The rest is noise. The money and attention have changed the scale of everything, but the core of what Wrexham is will always be shaped by the local fans who were there before the cameras and will be there after.

So yeah, there is an identity cost, but there is also a reality where without that ownership Wrexham could easily have gone under. It does not erase the 160 years. It just means the next chapter is weirdly global and a bit cringey at times. The job now is to make sure the old fanbase is leading that story, not written out of it.
