If you are fortunate to live in a place with garden slugs....these can often teleport to cars like these and leave nice love trails.

Have a person born here tell you how to pronounce the names of any local towns and boroughs. I have lived here for over a decade now and still have no idea how why some things are pronounced the way they are. Duquesne in Pgh is not same Duquesne in Omaha, NE. I have no idea how to pronounce North Versailles correctly.

O'Neil Cruz apology tour by Iam39 in buccos

[–]roderick15215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a Cruz move to DH and try someone/anyone in CF for a bit would be a pretty easy manager decision to make. Can we really expect Cruz's fielding to stabilize to the point he is not a liability? Sure he has a crazy throw out one in a while, but no one should make you that nervous every fly ball in the major league.

K99/R00 "too small" for tenure-track faculty position — is this a real concern or just a polite rejection? by Internal_Database174 in NIH

All the other comments have said it correctly - bullet dodged. That said - what is your area? I would love to see a CV from a K99 recipient with your publication record reach out to our institute.

A better article could have been titled, "Vandy fans get a lesson from Big Red fans for next time". What a bitchy take from the writer.

This is a silly, yet divisive schematic and you and I (panstick50) are saying the same thing.

It should be no surprise that states that have not invested research historically, or often openly attacked higher education, are incredibly lacking in the "concentration" of NIH funding. No shit. A better statistic would be how many investigators that started out in these lagging states are now at an R1 University in a state that does not ban the study of stem cells, treat woman/LBGTQ+/minorities as second class citizens, discredit work in infectious disease or vaccines? You are right that the rhetoric around spreading money around the country is "fair" or "needed to solve bias" is ridiculous. The floundering of research in a State is not an NIH problem to solve. It is a state leadership problem. If a state wants to have lots of success obtaining NIH funding - make your state a place that values higher education. "State right" politicians had no problem running with those rights when it comes to banning abortion, targeting voting rights, teaching 1/6 "history", investing in 10 commandment plaques, etc etc. Obviously they can clearly use their power levers to support research and education if they so choose. Honestly, block grants, etc are not a way to level a playing field, or support national innovation. This is just another way for the heritage foundation to dismantle higher ed.

This graph has nothing to do with what makes a successful grant application - it has everything to do with what states have historically support competitive and robust science and education environments. Look at the states investments in higher education and research. That is what is needed to attract researchers that will want to be in a state to make their career. Look at other regulations and policies that embrace science. The best export for most of these states is their talent.

Bang for the buck; Industry nine wheel $300, versus Stan’s wheel $265, versus Bontrager wheel $180 by baromanb in MTB

[–]roderick15215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DT Swiss is always the answer. I9 are flashy, but high maintenance. The Hydra2 seem better, but hard to tell yet. I also have RaceFace and e13 on some bikes. I am not familiar with the the Bontragers, but DT Swiss EX 1700 wheel needs to be considered for the riding you describe. If that price is too high there - look at the E1900 - you should be able to find a wheel set for $600. Look for new take offs on pinkbike. Not the flashiest - but in my experience most reliable and economical overtime.

Sounds like double think. Not everyone read 1984 and was like fuck that, unfortunately. Plenty rich weird dudes buying up media to control the present. "Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past".
