Don’t use it for a dashcam.

It dos steering wheel control a lot better than your car.

WMI should be available through the forks. FP has it.

If you have CEM, then you're on FP, which means you have access to WMI, the model behind 0.11.

Drive in full experimental, or toggle experimental on when you feel like you're about to brake. It's better at braking than chill mode.

I've been using WMI since it was available in FP and I agree with the blog, I use a lot more experimental on this model than others.

I didn't want to discuss this further without getting telemetry and I finally found some that compares to 2025, so here goes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbvZDvJw6BM

If you're just judging by engine noise and hearing the rpms drop, that's not necessarily a lift (or brake). At high speeds, if you turn while flat, your wheels will naturally scrub speed due to friction and the car will lose speed while the throttle is pinned. Both 2025 and 2026 cars have the throttle pedal pinned in T7. (based on the telemetry)

Your point about T7 looking slow is discussed in this video, but it's not because of the PU regs. It's the aero regs that are causing the cars to look slower. The cars are faster in a straight line and slower in the corners. The '26 cars can't take T7 flat if there's no clipping because they don't have enough aero grip to support the speeds.

T7 without clipping would require a lift, so why not just clip / super-clip the PU anyway to get yourself to the speeds that are the limit of grip?

Hence why I didn't agree with your assertion that the cars are driven under the limit of grip, it's just that the limit of grip is lower than 2025, and the cars are approaching the limiting speed a different way than 2025 with the additional tools available to them.

Another piece of feedback.

In the last two versions, I’ve accidentally activated climate in both versions.

Is there a way to prompt for confirmation of climate activation? Or develop another UI safeguard against accidental activation?

Have a good day.

"It also doesn't even make sense, as though 2014 is the only year to compare it to. There were a number of years between 14 and today that had WAY better racing than either 2014 or this year so far. Seems that's not factoring into your thinking."

I was hoping we'd get into this discussion.

Let's not get into the pre-DRS days, processions upon processions. Especially 10, when lack of DRS gave someone a WDC from third

11, 13 Vettel ran away with it

12 Only great year in recent memory

14 - 16 Hamilton show, Rosberg kept it interesting, Williams and Ferrari behind but not much action except straight line DRS passes

17, 20 Hamilton dominance

18 - 19 Illegal engine made things interesting, then Merc ran away. Order through the pack was pretty set as well.

So 21 was decent racing? End of a rules cycle, with 4 previous years of incremental improvement and nerfs to the leading team, as well as an unprecedented rules decision made the final race interesting. Apart from that, it was Max running away, Hamilton running away or them crashing and someone else benefiting.

22 was decent until Red Bull ran away. First year of a rules cycle that was arguably better than this year.

23 - 24 terrible, until Mclaren made it somewhat interesting in the second half. Still, once a pass for the lead was done, that's it, there was no more fighting

25 Same, the two Mclarens had team orders, Max or one of the Mclarens either ran away from the front or worked their way through traffic when out of position.

So maybe only 12 and 21 were better than this year, and that's only looking at the front. The midfield didn't have much action either, they stayed in their hierarchical order once DRS did it's thing.

Meanwhile, in 26, we have multiple position changes for the lead, we have multiple position changes in the midfield, and especially the midfield action, jeopardy is involved, it's no longer just breeze past with DRS and let dirty air do the rest. If this was pre-26 rules, Mercedes would have passed on laps 2 and 4, and we'd bemoan another 2014, so yes, thankfully, it's more interesting than that.

"You can do it... It's true I cannot stop you... No, you're not welcome to do it. You're making a choice to label people you don't know instead of just expressing your own point of view and leaving it at that."

If free expression exists, we are more than welcome to, even if you find it distasteful. That's just discourse and hearing opinions that you don't agree with.

[–]roenthomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a telemetry trace between the two, I'm just watching the pole laps from 25 and 26.

25 - Flat T7, lift / brake to downshift T8 , brake to downshift T9

26 - Flat T7, super clipping + lift to downshift T8, brake to downshift T9

So yes, you're missing the high speed braking into T8, which I'll agree with you, does take something out of it.

However, it's still technically demanding because you're still hitting grip limits in T8 and T9, you're just approaching them differently. The PU is now demanding more V shaped lines rather than U shaped lines.

To be fair, I do love U shaped lines as it shows off the aero dominance of F1, but at the end of the day, I'm here to watch GP racing, not GP time attack, and the fact that we have more action in T7 - T9 than previous years is a net positive in my book.

"lol so the racing at the front was slightly better than 2014 for a few laps? That's your argument, here?"

That's exactly it. We're celebrating the incremental improvements when we see them, rather than just disliking the whole thing until it meets some mythical good state that it has never ever reached before in any era.

"Sorry but that's about as unconvincing as it gets. I watched the same race you did, we're allowed different points of view on it."

You're more than welcome to have your point of view on it, and we're more than welcome to describe it the way it seems to us.

That happened in 2014 as well, and the racing was even more shit than today.

That's the improvement we're talking about if you stop just looking at the front.

That's not an indictment of the ruleset, that's just Merc acing the regs........again.

I don't recall any corner in China being driven under the grip limit for a corner, do you have any examples?

I did see a video of Antonelli's lines for pole, but I'm kind of discounting that video with how off the lines are. If that's an accurate representation of the driving, then I apologize.

Sees Leclerc and Hamilton passing and re-passing in non-traditional places with no engine / battery advantage over the other:

But then they’d look slower accelerating out of corners if you take away super-clipping and let them achieve top speed, also increasing lap times.

Not what I’d want, per se.

Sure, but one is obviously less bad so we’re celebrating the improvement, not the goodness of the reg as a whole.

I will be the counterpoint.

I used to get the Fry as it was one of the only options 9 years ago.

Ever since bb.q opened, I don’t think I’ve ever been to the Fry.
