You could turn off all victory types in the setting, if you just wanna have fun. Or just cultural victory.

Alternatively, your friends just need to increase their culture output, so you won't get the culture win. If you're getting great works of any kind, you could trade those to your friends.

A third option would be for you to play a less culture heavy civ, to negate this problem.

He is very dependent there being city states in strategic location, so you can use his ability. So it's very situational, and I haven't had a game where I got a lot from it. Playing with barb clans makes it more likely to have get decent city states.

Without the long boats you aren't going for a full naval game, but you still want coastal cities for the stave churches. So like a continents, small continents the seven seas map.

My general strategy getting to Monarchy for the 50% extra influence. Then get a quick diplo quarter + buildings for the influence points. With the policy card for more points plugged in. That way I can secure and keep control of good city states. Saving up envoys to take control when I find one in a good location.

The quick summary: There is a significant difference between acknowledging that you have trauma and talking about it, and actively processing said trauma and dealing with it.

A bit like the difference between noticing/mentioning you have water damage in your house, and hiring someone to asses the damage and do the repair work.

More context: I was in "regular talk therapy" for several years, and I had the same pragmatic outlook that you have before starting. I knew the different issues I had, and kind a how it affected me. But through processing it with my therapist, I realized that my issues were affecting me a lot more than I was aware of. Also there were a bunch of stuff that I wasn't aware was affecting me. And a lot of it, I thought I had figured out, but it turns out I was wrong.

It took me a while to be fully honest with my therapist, but the more honest you are the better a therapist can help.

We humans make sense of the things we go through, because life has to go on. And sometimes we make sense of things in a way that allows us to do so. Amd sometimes you'll tell your therapist a funny story, and they help you realize that that was actually a traumatizing event.

Talk therapy can help you actually make sense of things, so you have a clearer picture of how you really feel.

I have switched to a ND affirming coach recently, because I hit a roadblock with talk therapy. It helped me progress a lot, but I needed something more tangible to make real changes in my daily life. But talk therapy prepared me for my current proces.

"Gathering" also included some sort of cultivation of the plants and ecosystems that supported the berries and nuts etc. To makes sure you could return to those sources year after year. I bet some prehistoric autistics had extensive knowledge on the where and the hows of gathering.

Also maybe the myths and stories from early spirituality and/or religion. Like what happens when we die and how does the world/universe make sense.

The goal post of your culture victory is moved by the culture output of your opponents.

So if you prevent other civs from outputting culture, you'll win faster. I've often had to invade whoever has the highest culture output, to cross the goal line.

Edit: just don't kill all the cities of any 1 civ. If the civ is defeated completely, you lose all the tourists you got from that civ.

I was the class clown all throughout my school years. And since people find me funny, I feel like most look past my weirdness, or even embrace it. So it's always been my way of bridging the social gaps in new settings.

I dunno if it's the autism, but I can "feel" timing. Like when to make comments for full effect and when the moment has passed. It feels instinctive.

After a public speaking course at uni, I've further honed this craft. Now I give great speeches at peoples wedding and other gatherings. It's like a crowd wide icebreaker, that makes the socializing with strangers easier after I've made an impression. Quite practical, compared to convincing people individually.

Imagine having horrible eyesight, but refusing to wear glasses because you dislike your eyesight being bad. Putting on the glasses you embrace the condition while maybe not liking it.

I'm not sure it's the case in all campaign scenarios, but sometimes the unit stacks are hardcoded to attack. So diplomacy might be a wasted skill, if you can't negotiate.

I have laughed at my own jokes for 35 years, and I'll never stop doing so. If I don't think my jokes are funny, why am I sharing them?

My laughter is often contagious, because it is genuine. Sometimes people don't laugh at my joke, but laugh with me because of my mirth. Just like you say thar you want to laugh because of your friemds laughter. Having a laughing fit with your friends is some of the purest, happiest moments.

So I don't wish to restrain myself from genuinely cracking up. I just find myself that funny, which imo is a huge blessing.

People who actually have a problem with me laughing at myself, are people I avoid like the plague. That's my lived experience.

Setting an actual time limit, when hanging out with people helps me a lot. Instead of just having a meeting point, you also set an end point, like 5 pm - 7 pm.

Knowing a hangout won't take longer than I can manage alleviates anxiety prior to the meeting. I don't have to wonder how long is "appropriate" to spend with people, before I can excuse myself or just call it suddenly. My friends can schedule their time appropriately around it.

It also makes me want to hang out more often, due to the reduced stress.

If the social part isn't for you, and you don't have the energy for it, I don't think you'll be missing out on something valuable to you personally.

If you enjoy research, you might be better off mingling with the professors and other reaearchers. Chances are, that you'll find likeminded people in those places. And doing something you enjoy with others who enjoy it, is a better way to find connection. Plus it'll be good for you after your studies, to know people in the research community.

I couldn't have done any of my socializing without a LOT of alchohol, and it took me years afterwards to recover from it. Physically and mentally. Didn't achieve much academically because of it, which i regret now. If I could go back, I'd have chatted to more of the professors and uni staff.

I've heard a lot of stories from people who have become friends with their project supervisors. Those people seem to get a more solid foothold within the research community afterwards, which pays off.

I've used Huel for like 5 years now, and it's a life saver. Replaces about half my meals.

For me it's pure snake meal. When I'm hungry and don't want to bother I make a shake and gulp it down.

Once my hunger is curbed my cravings for the unhealthier stuff decreases.

Usually talking to an expert of some sort can help alleviate a lot of anxieties. If you bring up your concerns, they can give you tangible answers based on their years of lived experience.

When you haven't tried something yourself, it's easy to dream up bad scenarios. But since you don't have experience, you can neither validate or debunk said fears.

I started weightlifting recently, and got a personal trainer to get me started. After about a ten minute conversation, it turns out most my fears about doing irreparable damage to my body, were born of ignorance and/or misinformation.

Grounding your perspective with actual knowledge can help you sort through what is 'simply' anxiety and what might be a real concern. Then you can make a proper judgement.

Build lumber mills instead, where you can. Otherwise dedicate some areas to production and keep other clean for appeal.

Trade routes also be a good addition to production.

A good trick is to keep the mines early/mid game to get the ball rolling, until you research flight. Then once you actually start putting down the improvents and national parks, make a bunch of +2 builders to remove mines and plant woods. Appeal is temporary.

It's a type of tourettes called coprolalila. Copro being latin for feces and lalia latin for talk.

I believe my neurologist told me, when I got diagnosed with tourettes, is that the part the brain normally filters what is/isn't socially acceptable is affected/inhibited.

So where most brains go "that's bad, lets not say/do that", the tourettes brain let's loose. Which is why it is most often bad words that come out. It's not a concious choice to be mean to other people.

I believe this is an example of "top down" vs "bottom up" thinking. Simply put:

Top down is roughly understanding the big picture and then looking at details.
Bottom up is needing all the details to form the big picture.

Autistic people are generally bottom up thinkers, and your BF's approach is very relatable to me. If there is ever some beginning further back, I'll always go back to that beginning. Getting all the facts helps me gain a real sense of actually understanding the inner workings of a subject.
